My foot after dropping my laptop on it. Those toes were the only thing between the laptop and the cement floor.
If my reflexes had been fast enough the laptop would have suffered, and not my toes.
I didn't bring my swimming costume with me, although I thought about it because the weather was supposed to be (and was) quite warm on a couple of the days of my hike. I regretted it later, when Jennie showed me how the Sylarna staff was building a little "pool" in the river that runs down by the mountain station there.
The good news is that even if you don't swim you can still put your feet in cool water wherever you find it, and you can find it at many places along these mountain routes in summer. And so I did just that, just here.
P.S. For the record, I was also plagued by tiny biting gnats while I was cooling my feet. But no gnat was going to spoil my day.

My poor toes... my big toe and my pinky are both broken as well. So, if you're counting at home, that's two toes, a jaw, and several fractures of the tibia. And a broken tooth.
These toeclips covers are also elk skin. The stitching used was different than the handlebars. I used the toe clips as practice before trying the handlebars.
You can see a bit of the toe-clip strap in the lower left corner. They do make leather straps, but I'm not in a rush to replace these.
This is what happens when your kid blows the toes out of their sleepers! He must have wanted me to know that he wishes me "peace".
