There's one near you - to photograph at night.

Olympus E-P1, kit lens. This takes me back a looong way, to the late 1970s in Perth with Patric Shaw. I used to take a lot of trannies of neon signs, but back then I never used B&W as a night time medium for them. They were always printed in full colour on Cibachrome, a beautiful paper for blacks.

Processing info - This was a bit more complex than normal - firstly get the exposure and white balance right in ACR. A dark vignette drops the unattractive edges away. Converison to mono, with the look of a titanium-toned image, filtered with green to kill off some of the brightness of the overpowering neons.

I am growing very fond of the little Olympus Pen - it is easy to have it with me when I want to make images at odd moments, and other cameras are at home asleep in their bags. This was shot taking advantage of the in-body image stabilization, as it was hand-held against a wobbly pole for stability. The exposure was 1/5 sec @ f4. It is becoming a great tool.

Built for the LEGO Speeder Bikes 2017 contest, in the Vastland Cross category. I went with a Power Miners aesthetic and had fun using parts in lime green and orange.

Rugged and reliable, the sheer noise of its four jet thrusters earned Titanium Thunder its name. Always a strong contender in the Vastland Cross, it will be even more likely to win with 'Rock' Grey piloting this year: well known for his strength, persistence, and skill, Rock is the perfect choice to pilot this magnificent machine.

Had a bit of fun with this one, it's a picture of a friends wedding dress and after a bit of editing jiggery pokery from yours truly I felt it had a rather metallic look about it, hence the name Titanium! :)

From bottom to top, dark titanium rich lava in the Sea of Fertility then the diamond shaped patch is the Marsh of Sleep. Small bright crater Proclus is thought to be a recent impact crater and has thrown out bright ejecta that is much lighter than the surrounding ancient weathered rock. Above is the rather hexagonal Mare Crisium.

Proclus is 27km across to give you scale. Very approximately, it is 14 arcseconds across assuming the Moon has a diameter of 3475km = 30 arcminutes.

Exposition photos " TITANIUM "par Youry Bilak présentée par la Ville de Paris en collaboration avec l’Ambassade d’Ukraine.

Berges de Seine, niveau Pont Marie, jusqu'au 16/09/24.

A travers cette exposition, le photographe français d’origine ukrainienne dévoile les visages et la résilience d’ukrainiens mutilés suite à l’agression russe. Devenus sportifs avant ou après la guerre, beaucoup d’entre eux ont eu recours à des prothèses orthopédiques en titanium, d’où le titre de l’exposition.

Chacun des portraits est accompagné d’une photographie en pied qui montre les hommes, femmes et enfants pratiquant leur sport ainsi qu’un récit de leurs parcours personnels et sportifs. Ce projet fait écho à l’histoire personnelle et familiale de Youry Bilak, de par son origine ukrainienne et l’amputation de son père durant la seconde guerre mondiale.
