Like most men I know, I hate shopping! Particularly shopping for groceries. Yes, I know we have to eat and drink and the fridge doesn’t fill itself.

Actually that’s an idea.

Anyone who invented the self-filling fridge would make a fortune!

I don’t mind shopping for wine. Particularly when they’re giving out little tasters. In fact, then, I can spend ages picking my wines and, the longer it takes, the happier I get.

But I don’t like other grocery shopping.

During the recent snow we decided not to take the car to the local supermarket. It’s only a thirty minute walk. And we could walk along the river, taking a few photos as we went. We’d take a couple of rucksacs and carry the shopping back along the road.

Fortunately we didn’t need a lot of shopping.

So that’s what we did.

And I quite enjoyed it.

And here’s the result

Taken in the grounds of the Warneford Hospital, Oxford. This is a lovely spot to sit and think and watch the squirrells and the occasional pheasant look for food among the fallen leaves.

I'm sure most people who put up a Christmas tree have a sentimental ornament or two. This one reminds me of a trip I took where I first saw an owl in the wild, and when I saw this ornament I knew it was meant to be. Now I have owls all over my forest, so perhaps they followed me home?!

Merry Christmas to all my Flickr friends!

To all my Flickr friends! One from the days when we actually got snow and a lot of it...

Storm clouds rolled in yesterday and I took the opportunity to shoot some creepy looking skies. The birds in this photo have a bizarre ritual of flying in circles just north of my place. I finally managed to get a shot of them which sparked the idea for this composite.

For those interested, here's the pumpkin patch and house.

Part of California's lost coast, so called because it is one section of the state that Highway 1, the coastal highway, does not cling to the edge of the land due the steep and unstable terrain. We always wondered what we were missing as we took the highway north to Oregon and beyond...now we know and what a wild and rugged place it is, and so isolated.

In a week, I will be looking at another coastline and a different sea...halfway around the world to Barcelona and the Med...

Had to make a before dawn drive to the airport this morning and luckily arrived in Gilroy just in time to be greeted by this beautiful sight. There is something magical about watching the sun rise over the mountains...

We all need a Christmas Tree to remind us of the reason for the season as we drift to sleep!
