This tiny butterfly has a wingspan of 1-to-1-1/4 inches (about 2.5-3 cm). I had to walk through a creek to get to where I took this photo, but it was worth it.

Walking on the trail at a nearby lake, I heard pecking overhead in a pine tree I was passing and looked up fully expecting to see a woodpecker.

Instead I saw this little Brown-headed Nuthatch pecking away. I took quite a few shots trying to get a better look but it wasn't until I looked at the pictures on the monitor did a see he was actually pulling out grubs from underneath the bark. See below for a shot of the "gold" he was finding.

I am soooo ready for Spring to arrive! Here are some flowers already ahead of schedule. :-)

Walked around the corner to be greeted by this yapping little ball of cute anger. The owner walked out of his stall, looked at me taking photos of it, then stared down at it in bewilderment, shrugged his shoulders and walked back.
