Two Cherry trees that will be used during a diplomatic gift ceremony of Cherry Tress from Japan stands at the site of the planting of the original trees donated by Japan in 1912 at the Tidal Basin, Washington D.C., April 10, 2024. In March 2024, the U.S. National Park Service announced plans to remove more than 150 cherry trees in Washington, D.C., in order to make repairs to the seawall lining the Tidal Basin. The trees being removed are descended from cherry trees given to the United States by Japan in 1912. In response to this announcement, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida decided to give the United States a gift of four ‘Someiyoshino’ flowering cherry trees to be planted at the Japanese American Memorial to Patriotism During World War II. Prime Minister Kishida presented the cherry trees to the United States during a ceremony on April 10 at the Tidal Basin. (USDA photo by Christophe Paul)

Thanx zxgirl for the 'rock slater' identification. Starting with that i was also able to find them called "sea slaters" & "bilge bugs". There were large numbers of them scurrying around, mostly just ahead of my ability to focus on them. They were between low tide & high tide levels.

We were going about 5 miles an hour up out street and still manages to cause a wave - I feel bad for the people who own this house!
They shoot water into this shallow pool at regular intervals to simulate the conditions of a tidal pool.
This is the Ross Sea. Water freezes from the top down, leaving salty water underneath the ice. The frozen sea still experiences high and low tide, which may cause cracks in the ice like this one.
Tidal Reflections // Washington, DC
I was lucky enough to capture the sunset on a cool, still evening down by the Tidal Basin at the National Mall in DC. The Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial begin to glow as the evening commuter traffic fills the city.
