Here is Rowan's xray. There are 2 breaks, 1 spiral which is the one to the right, and 1 standard which is the one to the left. We'll know more tomorrow, but think it's a pinning job!

A broken tibia and fibula in the human ankle is held in place with a stainless steal screw until the bones can properly heal. The ankle and foot is kept immobile inside a plaster cast.
Hind tibia yellow with a dark patch on posterior face (all orange in N. goodeniana).

Jumping on my sister's trampoline. Really just a freak thing, she was crying telling me she twisted her ankle. The break is the lower leg right by the knee. :(

Both bones were compound (exposed outside the skin) fracture.
I was taken down the mountain by ski patrol and ambulanced to Vail Hospital.

Third surgery for broken leg. Surgery included: removal and replacement of all previous hardware, trimmed-down bone that was growing sideways, removed some of femur bone and placed it between broken leg bones.

This is the X-ray of my left leg taken 11/6/07... (over three weeks after being hit by a car on 10/12/07).
I took this picture while it was up on the backlight.
There is an acute, nondisplaced laterial tibial plateau fracture identified. There is some fragmentaion at the level of the articular surface and subchondral region with a large amount of bony edema here as well. There is also associated bone edema involving the proximal fibula, though no fibular fracture is identified. There is a small joint effusion present with no Baker's cyst. There is a tear of the medial collateral ligament with diffuse thickening and increased signal involving the femoral insertional fibres compatible with a grade II injury... There is no meniscal tear.
Four days later when I went to the othoropedic surgeon, they listened to my complaint of pain in my calf. *SURPRISE*!!!! My fibula was in two seperate and not equal pieces.

I'm not a specialist - but I'm told that this xray shows healing on Rowan's leg - so much so, that the pot has come off. He'll need his crutches for the next 3 months, but at least he's no longer encased in plaster. Whey hey.

It has been a month now since I destroyed the top of my left tibia. My friend Tanya Huff sent me her latest book to keep me sane; it's a grand collection of short stories and so far I love them all. Thanks, Tanya! I'm using the lap tray that Allison sent me and still eating the goodies that came with it, so thank you also to Allison! I am so blessed with my friends and family, I can't even begin to express it.

Anderson Silva recently underwent surgery to repair a broken leg during a fight that he won. The kick that won him a victory also cost him a badly broken left leg (tibia and fibula bones). The UFC estimated his recovery time to be as long as six months.
The surgery that he underwent involved the insertion of an intramedullary rod in the tibia. The broken fibula was stabilized and did not required a separate surgery.

While the solid tibia and fibula aren't anatomically correct, I think it will keep Skelitas' legs from bowing the way the CAM legs are bowed.
There is a formidable spur on the hind tibia: a feature calcarata shares with crassipes. Anthophora femorata is similarly armed but the spur is on the hind basitarsus.
There is another projection on the hind femur (arrowed). In calcarata this is rounded and at the base of the femur. In crassipes it is pointed and half way along.

i still can't believe it. this morning T was spinning around and purposely falling, the way he has done hundreds of times, when there was a loud crack and he immediately crumpled in pain. i didn't even bother to see if he could stand on his own, just scooped him up, squirted a big dose of tylenol in his mouth, threw a juice box, granola bar and a handful of travel activities in my bag and took off for the hospital. i bet we were on the road within three minutes of the crack. T cried almost all the way there (i was fighting tears myself), but he still couldn't help but point out the ambulances as i carried him into the emergency room. he really does love transportation. he was very calm within a few minutes of arriving at the hospital. x-rays showed a spiral fracture on his lower tibia. this is such a common injury among children this age that it is called a "toddler's fracture." they put him in a full leg splint and told us to return tomorrow for a cast, which he'll have to wear 4-6 weeks. he had chicken mcnuggets for a late lunch, then ice cream and full-strength apple juice (a big treat) on the sofa while watching tv. then he slept for a long, long time. poor baby.
