A cold low pressure system that formed in the Gulf of Alaska drifted down southward towards the Pacific Northwest and California, bringing in cold temps, snow and even thunderstorms. This was officially our first winter storm of the season.
In this video, it shows the main part of this winter storm slam the San Francisco Bay Area, including my area (San Jose, CA) on the Saturday of November 20, 2010. During the afternoon hours, we experience rain and widespread showers. But later at around 5 p.m., we noticed suddenly that the rain showers had turned into heavy rain falling in larger droplets signalling that the thunderstorms were apparent. It appeared that at about 6:30 p.m., our area issued a flood advisory since there was a line of intense rain and thunderstorms headed our way. The storms were capable of producing drenching rain, about at a rate of over half an inch per hour!
Then as the night starts, it was 7 p.m. and the thunderstorms have arrived. (These are the parts shown in this entire video). We witnessed heavy drenching rain, breezy conditions and even thunder and lightning!! The lightning was impressively happening at a decent rate, about one every 2 minutes on average.
The first couple lightning were taking just outside my house. Then later where we see a nice view of the city, we were up at our church facility in Murillo, in San Jose, CA. Boy, it was coming down at this point. The parking lot and even the area outside of our church building appeared to turn into a river! More lightning/thunder was experienced here. The strongest and heaviest rains of this storm was experienced up here as well. It was so loud like it was a waterfall! The roof couldn't hold all the rain that has been coming down and so it looked like a waterfall! I've never experienced a rainstorm this severe in a while for our area.
With all this heavy rain and lightning and thunder made me feel like I was in the Midwest or Florida. This weather is really uncommon for the Bay Area. It was a great experience for me!

Although quite grainy (a lot of noise) it seems to be possible to make lightning pictures with an extremely cheap diggi-snapper.
Caveat: this is one of 20 "hits" out of 142 tries. Yepp, 20 pictures with at least something on it but 122 were just jet-black (save some noise).
OK, I could have made a completely black picture and use that to subtract some of the noise ...ow, c'mon! ;-)

yesterday in zürich, the thunderstorm didn't refereshed the air like I hopped!..
we have high temperature at daytime and very humid air (80%) and also in the night the temperature stayed over 20°C... not really good for sleeping;)

Små mennesker.. Vanskelig oppgave! Kom over et ganske spektakulært tordenvær i går kveld, og bestemte meg for å prøve meg på oppgaven. Ganske vanskelig å sitte stille i 30 sekunder!
Setter her spesielt pris på tilbakemeldinger med tips om hvordan man tar sånne bilder. Tanken min var så høyt aperture som mulig for å få mest mulig dybdefokus, men jeg måtte jo ofre ISO. Ellers maks lukkertid (30s) for å få med seg en del bang og bom... Burde kanskje tatt et lavere aperturetall og lavere iso? Alle forslag velkomne, dette var vanskelig å ta bilde av! Var også veldig usikker på hvor (og hvordan) jeg skulle sette fokus...
Some people mentioned it is a bit dark in the foreground. Perhaps it is better to view the large version on black (I think so...)
