Where have you been?” asked DeGrazia when he met New York sculptor Marion Sheret as she visited the first DeGrazia studio at Prince Road and Campbell Avenue. They married in the jungles of Mexico in 1947, lived at the studio, then bought the 10-acre foothills site near Tucson that became DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun. Marion was instrumental in DeGrazia’s success, according to longtime DeGrazia friend Dick Frontain, “I don’t think he would have done it without her. In fact, I’m sure he wouldn’t. She was the drive he needed.” Happy Throwback Thursday!

This week we are going back seventeen years to 2009, and to RV 481 on D'Olier Street with a service on route 83 to Kimmage.

Route 83 started running between the city centre and Kimmage in 1936. In 1992 it became the first City Imp route, when red / yellow minibuses were introduced that ran at a high frequency. Around 2003 it was extended north to McKelvey Avenue in Finglas when it replaced route 134. In 2004 it was extended further north to Harristown. In 2024 the route was slightly rerouted to go via Crumlin Village, following the Bus Connects changes to the southern orbital routes. It then finally ceased to operate in 2025 when it was partially replaced by routes 23, 24 and 82 under the Bus Connects F-Spine changes.

RV 481 was new to Dublin Bus in 1999. It was withdrawn in 2009, and sold on to an operator in the United Kingdom.

Thinking back to this beautiful weekend-trip in Japan.

This place is world famous for its Wasabi products.

These fields require very specific conditions with flat cold river beds and lots of shade. The plants also take several years until they are ready to be harvested.

A shot of me from about ten years ago. Shot by my son on a 5D2 and EF 851.2L. Focal point was my right eye.

This was a little dress I purchased for work, back in 2013. I never posted it, but thought it would be a great "throwback" video. ;-)

This week we are going back ten years to 2013 and to AV 321 on Nutley Lane. The bus is about to do the Saturday-only, 16:05 departure on route 17 from Nutley Lane (although the timetable said St. Vincent's Hospital) to Rialto. The regular route 17 started operating between Blackrock and Dolphin's Barn / Rialto around 1971. Select departures to and from St. Vincent's Hospital started operating on and off from 1985. They ceased in 2019 when Go-Ahead Ireland took over the route.

AV 321 was new to Dublin Bus in 2003. This Volvo ALX400 was withdrawn in 2017 and sold on to another Irish operator.

This week we are going back thirty-nine years to 1986, and to D 582 on Pembroke Street with a service on route 10 to the Phoenix Park.

Route 10 started running between the Phoenix Park and Donnybrook in 1940. Around 1970 it was extended to University College Dublin (UCD) in Belfield. It probably became one of the most well-known routes in the city, as it was used by many people to either go to the zoo or to college. The route ceased to operate in 2010 when it was replaced by route 46A on the northside, and route 39A on the southside under Network Direct. Pembroke Street is served by route 39A.

D 582 was new to CIE in Dublin in 1974. From 1978 to 1985 it operated in Cork. It was withdrawn by Dublin Bus in 1991.

I cannot believe how young Sherry looks in this picture!

These two particular dolls really changed my perception of the Barbie brand. I was happy to see them readily available year after year until Raquelle was nowhere to be found in the US for the "Style" line only to be released elsewhere and to finally come back twice unfortunately with poorly printed eyes. She has yet to appear back with this gorgeous face. Ryan on the other hand had his sculpt completely redone and never returned. Mattel please bring them back... just the way they used to be!

Here's to hoping we get them in collectible sized heads in any upcoming lines whether it be "The Look" or not even in collectible size heads, just back in "Fashionistas." I would get excited just to see them back in some form be it a picture in the Barbiestyle Instagram account. What do you guys think? Which Raquelle and Ryan are your favorite releases?

Chicago's Crown Fountain. These kids are enjoying themselves and cooling off during a humid day in Chicago.

Last working day of the week as I'm off to Leeds tomorrow for a couple of nights. So to celebrate here's a photo from August last year that I never got around to posting. This was the first time I'd ever met Eliza yet she somehow mostly managed to drag a smile out of me. Hopefully a few more smiles this weekend when we and a few other friends meet up again.

This week we are going back a mere 16 years to 2007, and VL 4 in Dun Laoghaire on route 111. VL 4 was one of five buses delivered to Dublin Bus between 1997 and 1998. They were low-floor Volvo buses with Alexander bodies. Following on from the W-Class minibuses delivered in 1994, these were the next step in the evolution of the Dublin Bus fleet as it moved towards low-floor, accessible buses. Initially used on routes 1,2 and 3, departures in the timetable were highlighted in red so people could know when the low-floor buses would be operating. The buses were also delivered in a proposed livery that was not adopted fleet-wide. They were later repainted into the standard fleet livery, before ending their days in the yellow / blue livery. They also spent their final years on the local routes in Dun Laoghaire, as seen here. They were withdrawn in 2009, and VL 2 - 5 were sold on to an operator in Scotland.

Route 111 started in 1986 as one of the DART Feeder services, operating between Loughlinstown Park and Dun Laoghaire Station. It started off as relatively high-frequency service, but was cut back over the years. In 2009 it became peak-hour only, but in 2016 was completely revamped. Running hourly, seven days a week, it was extended at each end to Brides Glen and Dalkey. In 2018, Go-Ahead Ireland took over the operation of the route.

Sandro's rendition of my Thursday. Me, of course, "Smok'n Hot!"

Here's a pic I took five years ago that I've never shared with anyone. I thought it would be perfect for a "Throwback Thursday" memory!

This week we are going back six years to 2017 and AX 523 in Parnell Square on route 7A. The bus is in a special livery for Dublin Pride. Although Dublin Bus had been a supporter of Dublin LGBTQ Pride for a number of years, this was the first year a bus received a special livery to mark the occasion. In 2018 three buses were done up, as were three other buses in 2019. Covid-19 saw nothing happening in 2020, and in 2021 Go-Ahead Ireland wrapped a bus up which is still around today.

Route 7A to Loughlinstown Park started in 2016 when the two branches of route 7 were given their own route numbers. Traditionally the 7 went to Loughlinstown Park, but it was decided instead to assign that number to the Brides Glen variation of the route.

AX 523 was new to Dublin Bus in 2006. It was withdrawn around 2019 and sold on to an operator in the UK.

Several years ago, a friend was visiting and had a wedding to attend. She brought 2 outfits and this was the one she didn't wear. I only wish I had been able to do a complete transformation.
