This is a view through the ruins on the Kingsmere Estate in Gatineau Park, Quebec.

This is an HDR image created from three separate exposures.

Taken recently on a visit to Laugharne. I managed to get a sunburst through the window at the top of the castle. I know that there is lens flare but I quite like it!

Traversing the now lightly used track, a Colas tamper, which should have entered from the other direction, heads into Washwood Heath RMC with a service from Rugby.

This would be the final train to enter the sidings from this direction.

CSX run-through power on the former Mopac Sedalia Subdivision. This westbound lead by EMD SD40-2 8137, is still in what's left of its Family Lines System paint. Under Lewis Road, between Castlewood State Park and Eureka, Missouri, and in between Meramec River crossings.

Kodachrome scan, shot on October 2, 1993.

Having been once again in a creative rut, and faced with a three hour train journey this morning, I put some serious thought into planning a photograph - and this was one of the resulting ideas.

It evolved somewhat as I went along, but the idea was always to have plain, dull old water entering the lens and coming out as some kind of rainbow jamboree. I was wondering if I could use milk coloured with food dyes, but in the end a lack of a) milk and b) food dye scuppered that plan short of a trip to the shop, so instead I used my shower head to create the water drop effect shown here, taking two photos of the shower using a large softbox and a speedlight on 1/16 power for each.

I then photographed the lens, using my Nikon 105mm f/4 Micro, and the same softbox in the same position relative to the camera, though on 1/2 power.

The rest was photoshop of the painstaking but straightforward variety; cutting out the grey background I'd set up around the lens, overlaying this on the shower head and colouring the droplets using filters (individually...). I'm happy with the result!

A COMMON BIRD, but new as soon as I saw it, what a great image it would make, hope you agree, felt sure he would see me before taking the image, but got away with the capture.

GOING TO MADEIRA , family holiday, is it worth taking my birding camera, any advice please would be welcome!

Thanks for the visit, any comments I love to read, and find encouraging. terrible weather in kent, rain and high winds, .....Keep safe Tomx.

Took this image as I was out last evening around the park and pond. Amazed by how much bird life there is in the urban areas. As I stood there watching, I felt the warmth from the evening sun and it throw lovely rays over the pond. Used the telephoto lens to zoom in through the green leaves, creating a foreground bokeh.

THE NATIONS FAVOURITE BIRD! Bold and inquisitive, strongly and conspicuously territorial, unmistakable with its striking orange-red face, throat and breast. Have a pair nesting in a hedge. Is it me, but they are on the increase, everywhere you go, town or countryside you see a robin, and so trusting!! AND I LOVE THEM! ( 14 cm in length )

*[a little bit about this windy sunrise shoot: I literally had to hold my camera up against the bow-flagpole-stantion to steady it, as I kept myself behind the narrow stantion as a wind-block! The wind was so strong you could not stand-still without getting blown back! I turned my cap around and it still got blown off! LOL Earlier, the bow gate was locked. They all saw from the bridge I was disappointed. The captain sent a security-officer to unlock the gate. I was the only one out there. Captain & crew behind me! Was it worth it? Absolutely!!]

"And in the end, the love you take, is equal

to the love you make" ---Paul McCartney

Zorn’s voice cut through the noise on the bridge. “Captain Sireth—message from the advance group. They’ve dropped beneath the electronic interference layer and have located the Core. They expect to arrive momentarily.”

Sireth’s eyes gleamed. “Excellent. Voltar—come. It’s time to board the transport. The advance group will have the Core secured for us shortly.”

Voltar allowed himself a satisfied smile. “Wonderful. Everything aligns. I commend your efficiency, Captain.”

Sireth drew a knife from his belt and brought it to Voltar’s throat. “I expect you to relinquish the Axiotemporal Collapse Drive files the moment the Core is secured and the timeline reversed.”

Voltar’s voice was smooth and cold. “Of course. Once your people restore the continuum to before the Earth reptilians were erased, AND forward flow resumes. That is the agreement.” Pushing the knife away.

“That is the agreement,” Sireth repeated, each word cold as stone.

He stopped. His gaze sharpened—predatory, assessing—and he let it rest on Voltar measuring him. “Trust does not come easily from one who watches a man betray his own species.”

Voltar straightened, hands clasped behind him with military precision. “There is no betrayal. I serve the chain of command. Nothing else.”

Voltar met Sireth’s blazing stare without flinching. “And understand this,” he said, voice low but edged. “Your reputation precedes you, Sireth—but if this doesn’t unfold exactly as promised, your share of the payment disappears.”

For a long moment Sireth only watched him, weighing—quite literally—whether it would be simpler to open Voltar’s throat now and be done with the man. At last, with a slow, deliberate motion, he slid the knife back into its sheath.

Sireth turned away. “Come. We must go to the transport now.”

Kayla followed unseen between dimensions.

Happy Window Wednesday!

With Autumn’s colours at their peak, a lone EMD GP9RM guides Canadian National test train no. 999 through the backwoods of Parry Sound. Although this bucolic scene is reminiscent of a branchline, in actuality, it’s big time railroading. Number 999 is moving right along at track speed on CN’s Bala Subdivision, which is the transcontinental mainline linking Eastern and Western Canada. In a rare move, this train would run northbound on a line that almost always operates southbound due to the Directional Running Zone agreement between CN & CP in Northern Ontario.
