A really late-season thread-waisted wasp, Ammophila sp., on wildflowers in my Colorado Springs neighborhood. October 5, 2018.
Enjoying making crystal drop earrings with sterling silver chain. This chain is so light, it's like thread. Earrings are about 7 cm long (or nearly 3 inches).
In this picture, I use a knitting needle size US1 to make the loops at the beginning.
I started with scrap thread that was about 30 to 32 inches in length.
Making rings might be a good use for any the scrap you might have!
Beta illustration for the cover of an A4 folder which will containing material for an upcoming perfomance under the title "upside down thread" by the art team "CMD"
Several months ago, not long after I first got my flash, I made a flash 'bounce card' modelled after the one found at www.themoment2cherish.com/DIY-Bounce-Card/
It cost me a total of $2, for two pieces of A4 foam paper from a local art shop. I had some elastic and velcro already. The velcro had a sticky back, so I just stuck it straight to the elastic, and it worked great.
For a while.
Then the velcro would pull off the elastic with a little bit of pressure after it had been under strain for a while. And it gradually got worse, until this week it will barely stay together long enough to take one photo with it.
So, I did was any self-respecting guy would do. I asked my mum to sew the velcro to the elastic for me.
It was a very quick job for her, it was over in about 10 mins. The needle was even already threaded in her sewing tin. Threaded with floss. Somehow I think it's very fitting that this DIY project is held together with floss! (I am the son of a dentist, after all).
Today I am grateful for Grammy sharing her talents, and for all who freely share their talents to improve the lives of others.
Trying to achieve the smallest possible macro shot with my point and shoot!
This is a shot at needle eyes one threaded with very fine cotton and one with woollen yarn!

I like silver better than gold. The round pink satin stitches look really good but the red ones are a bit dodgy.
I do like the grey stem stitch though. Always have trouble with that one, but it looks pretty good here.

Today I've had a very productive photo day. As I walked home I decided to force myself to find objects around worth taking pictures of. This resulted in about 50 keepers, most of them macro, because I had a macro lens on. So no strobist stuff today, enjoy some more backlit macro shots with lens flare and bokeh :)
Shot with one sb600 in a small photoflex softbox camera right and almost level with the table. Light fired via Nikon CLS. Spools are resting on a piece of black acrylic.
Background is s black piece of foamcore about 3-4 feet of the back.
On left a small foamcore reflector was used to provide a small amount of fill.
There have recently been some very nasty rumors spreading about Urban Threads, accompanied by modified, edited versions of our designs in an attempt to misrepresent us. If you'd like to hear our response, you can read it here
i'm a volunteer photographer for Red Thread Sessions -- providing Homecoming Photo sessions, new Family Photo Sessions, etc for families who have recently adopted. This beautiful family was my first Homecoming Session at the airport. What a darling girl they brought home from Taiwan! Grandparents and friends were waiting at the airport and I did my best to capture their first sight of their new baby girl.
