We are passionate about thread. Thread has become a specialized instrument for creativity and stitch express. It can play a supporting, technical role or be the star of the show. Check out the chart on page 9 of the book Threads – The Basics and Beyond.

This is from when I was teaching it was set up as a sampler for the class I had a few made so differnt classes I could teach stitches. At the end of class I use to give the sampler away. This was one that was never used and never filled in. Since I was not teaching any more ( that store went out of business) I just left it on the pattern for about 10 years. to day I decided I would remove it from the pattern as I was never going to finish it. Because it had been basted so long in this position it kept its shape so i think I will keep it just as is and add it to my Christmas ornaments just like this half done silly but true
The thread is Opera, light yellow, size 10. Crocheted with a Boye size 6 hook.
I made this some time ago so I'll have to search to discover which pattern book it came from. I think it may have been an old issue of Magic Crochet.

So I took Amber in to get her eyebrows threaded for the first time. I was more nervous than she was. What a trooper!
Eyebrow threading is an ancient technique that originated in India. A cotton thread is used and it twists around a line of hairs and removes them all at the same time.

I used Mabon threads that I bought at the Knitting and Stitching show last year. I used satin stitch, chain stitch, running stitch, back stitch, feather stitch, long and short stitch, split stitch and some couching.
I mounted the embroidery on a canvas frame and then added the black fabric using buttonhole stitch (with a rainbow blending thread and charcoal thread) and added some flowers for a finishing touch.
Teenage daughter has claimed it for her room....no surprise there then.

Thread Magic: The Enchanted World of Ellen Anne Eddy
Ellen Anne Eddy is an internationally known fiber artist whose wall art goes beyond the traditional concept of quilting. Fish, bugs, birds, and frogs are found throughout her art, blending her dreams and vision with the natural world. She uses hand-dyed fabrics, lames, machine embroidery, cut-away applique, and layered sheers to create the illusion of flames, water, and mist in her work. The chapters guide the reader step-by-step with everything from "Looking at Quilts" to "Rehabilitating Troubled Quilts." The gallery of quilts features both full images and detail shots. The photographs are bright and colorful, the illustrations clear and helpful. Ellen's quilts are divided into several series and themes, with each section offering her inspiration for that theme. It is Ellen's hope that by sharing her journey as an artist she can inspire her readers in their artistic journey.
Hand-dyed fabrics, layered sheers, and machine embroidery are spotlighted in these extraordinary quilts featuring birds, animals, and insects. Includes a step-by-step technical section.

I've always wanted to do a skull. I figured it was time. I'm keeping with the 'creepy Lisa Frank' theme.
This is my first attempt at stumpwork (the bow) and thread painting (eyes) and it went suprisingly well. Also, I figured out my archnemesis 'metallic thread' (bow and teeth), and we're BFFs now.

Today I presented my methods for thread drawing - using four different techniques for this simple piece - to the Harbor Art Guild in Hoquiam, WA.
I used four different techniques to create this image - standard lock-stitching on a home machine, darning on a home machine, fabric applique with fusible web, and hand-embroidery.
