1/8" acrylic used as the "thread" on the statue. The curl at the end was heated first, then wrapped over the painted sections and holds in place via friction with no adhesive
Actually, I want to attempt to sew a dress for summer. Never been good at sewing though. In fact, 9 times out of 10 the thread knots up and I need someone to bail me out by putting the thread right again... so might be a "bit" of a challenge!
I'm starting small though... tonight I made a sunglass case. Nice and rectangular :)
When I was taking out the garbage this afternoon, I noticed a BIG bag filled with thread next to the chute! Of course I had to take it with me! It was full of thread. Well over 100 spools. Mostly Coats & Clarks, and mostly on plastic spools so it can't be too old. I usually buy Gutterman, but I'm not about to turn away free thread!
Made with this cute tute- www.sewmamasew.com/2011/01/travel-sewing-case-tutorial/ I made it a bit bigger and with 2 elastics to hold it closed, but otherwise I followed the tute.

What potential does this thread hold in the hands of a skilled seamstress? This thread is from my Grandmother's sewing basket.
A mating pair of thread-waisted wasps (Eremnophila aureonotata) visits a Wingstem flower. The adults of this species feed on flower nectar, but the larvae live in a burrow dug out by the female and feed on a big caterpillar that she brings for them and places in the burrow.

We watched with bated breath as the plane approached the moon. Just as it was about to pass by, it banked left and crossed the heavenly body. We all cheered!
My camera was on bulb mode (manual timing - no preset), and I was aiming to do a 10 second exposure. When I saw the plane turn towards the moon I completely forgot about the concept of overexposure. I wanted to catch the crossing!
30 seconds later I closed the shutter. I looked at the camera's LCD - it was totally white. I had blown it. What a lost opportunity. But how could we know the plane would do this, from where we were standing?
At home, in front of the computer, I used Aperture to crank the exposure down as much as it would allow (maybe 2 stops), and did the same thing with the brightness control. IMAGE!
I always try to "expose to the right". This was extreme, but thanks to shooting in RAW format I was able to pull this off. Almost no noise, too!
I reprocessed this using Adobe Camera Raw. It is cropped to 75% of original size. Hardly sootc * !

didn't quite realise what we had gotten ourselves into, when this guy said he had some thread he didn't need anymore...

YO Delicious!! Come View this Large (haha, thanks Jill)
Today I had off work so I decided to head down to Elmwood with Spencer and Clarence. Hopefully to hang out with Jill too, and we did. haha
So the story behind this one... I wanted to shoot someone today and Spencer offered to be the model. We were walking down the street and there's this bench outside Urban Threads made out of two snowboards. Ironically Spencer injured his knee last week snowboarding, so this portrait was so fitting.
