Chains do not hold (people) together. It is threads, hundreds of tiny threads, which sew people together through the years.

I have never seen a male Widow Skimmer until this one and he was so far into the reeds, that I held no hope of having caught a decent picture, having to thread my camera's eye through a tight spot in all the vegetation. But I think this came out pretty OK. Kind of soft and not too much detail, but isn't he beautifully marked?
Vintage magazine clippings, note paper, pencil, and thread on paper. 5..5 x 8.5
Experimenting with thread as a collage element...not sewn into the paper, but as a loose line design on the surface

T-28, Ditto flown by Herb Baker; The World's Only Smoke-Ring Acrobatics. This is a very unique aerobatic demonstration using the wing-tip smoke generators. Herb tries to make smoke rings then fly through them on a 2nd pass.
This is part of a set I'll be adding to as time permits over the next couple of days. Please visit the whole set when you get a chance.

This collage will be included in a group show in September.
something about this thread made me take many pictures of it. I couldn't even continue weaving for awhile, until I was done admiring its pattern...or something.
Worth, I think, looking at the original size for the tools and details.
For anyone who sews, seeing a thread board makes you feel immediately at home in a space. I was trying to take an image of this cozy sewing corner in a dry cleaner shop through the window but was fighting too much glare. The young woman at the counter looked friendly so I wandered in to ask if I could shoot it from inside. I'm so glad I did because we had a great conversation about her great aunt who is the doyenne of that corner, and I got to see that it's a treadle version of my own workhorse Singer which I bought years ago from a factory going out of business. They're made of cast iron, almost indestructible, and more reliable than just about any machine I've ever owned. Now I want to wander in some week day- maybe with a plate of cookies- so I can visit with the seamstress.
