My first foray into urban exploration around an abandoned hanger at Monks Cross with Steven. Recently used as a workshop, but I believe (as of yesterday) it was originally built to service & repair Halifax bomber engines in WWII. The planes were stationed at the nearby Elvington airfield.
Really enjoyed the whole experience and hope to do some more.

An original art quilt. Hand-drawn on fabric; machine quilted. I made this for a challenge on the theme "Maverick." And this piece is about how in the traditional art world, art quilters and fiber artists are mavericks, breaking and bending all sorts of rules. So among these basic art tools, the needle and thread are subversive in their own ordinary way.

Motanka is the toy and the averter. There is the opinion that they appeared in the period of late paleolith. It means that motanka is 7000 years old. In the pre-Christian times motankas were made of the simplest material – hay, pieces of fabric, threads, ribbon. People knew that this doll should look like anybody. The mother, making the doll for her daughter, never dared to draw eyes, nose or lips. Instead of human lineament oh the doll’s face there is the rood – the symbol of Sun.

Here's another view of the threads on the Spears loom, ready for weaving. I'll be glad when I have more experience, so I can do this part quicker. I'm glad I'm a picky person now....I have finally found a craft that matches my personality! :P

I don't know how often I took photos of this spool of thread for this month's color and then I didn't use it after all because I found something else.
Urban threads Whooo's There Owl.
I bought this in size large, and shrunk it down to fit the space on my shirt...then added two amber jewels for eyes! I chose a tan color thread to match the button color.

At an auction I found a big bag full of colour coordinated sewing threads. Of course, I had to get them because of the wonderful colour combos!
