A motley trio of motive power is pictured in Ropley Shed on the Mid-Hants Railway on June 2nd 2001. On the right is former Southern Railway Class U 31806, a locomotive that I'd last seen in the Woodham Bros. Yard on Barry Island during July 1976. It is now operational on the railway. In the middle is 'D199' a Class 45 (45132) in 'Thomas the Tank Engine' guise, whilst D5353 on the left ended its operational days in Scotland as 27007. It still carrys a 65A - Glasgow Eastfield - shedplate.

Thomas the Tank Engine meets Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad FPA-4 No. 800 in Peninsula, Ohio. No. 800 was pulling the CVSR National Park Scenic, which was waiting for Thomas and his train to take the siding.

When my nephew visits, he can't wait to hit the train room. One visit, I pulled out the blue tub and went to work.

After ordering some medium blue wheels from Big Bens Bricks, I just had to go all out and vinyl him up. Making the face was a pain (digitally cut, but painfully created line by line in the software and then painstakingly applied by hand...) but I think he looks great.

Still haven't worked out what to do with his rods, as I think they're a little wide, but I'll works something out. Wouldn't mind dropping the wheels under the body a bit more too, but that will require substantial modification of the kinda rare red 80's train baseplate, which I'd prefer not to do.

WAH: Perfectly Banal

My days are filled with cars, trains, dinosaurs, and playing hide-and-seek with a hider standing directly in front of me, saying "COUNT!" and then not hiding.

Also tantrums, demands, cuddles, kisses, and playdates.

I'm so tired.

I also hate Thomas.

Lego Models made for Thomas and Friends Display

I have been to the NRM at Shildon Winter Toy Fair on Saturday when I came across the Thomes and Friends section of some of the original ERTL diecast toys when I was browsing the collection I have found three Flying Scotsman's (Gordon) one bad condition, two good Condition UK and US brand.

Barking like a big dog, the Strasburg Rail Road's Thomas the Tank Engine hauls an 8-coach "Day out with Thomas" excursion up the hill toward the crossing at Esbenshade Road, showing off the nearly 26,000 lbs of tractive effort that this former Brooklyn Eastern District Terminal docksider is capable of. At least in the 2000s, Hit Entertainment, which owned the rights to the Thomas Trademark, was dictating the length of the rides at "Day out with Thomas" events. At Strasburg, the standard length ride basically equated to backing down to Groundhog Cut, then running forward back to the East Strasburg Station. That meant starting a heavy train of 8 loaded coaches on the grade at the cut. Thomas never failed to put on a show doing this, and the stack-talk could literally be heard for miles around. Under the baby-blue paint beats the heart of a bull.

After a weekend working Thomas trains at Gembrook 6A and the Peckett (aka Thomas) head for home.

taken at Ropley, Watercress Line 06/04/08, as the event got under way. I was waiting up the yard in a brake van I was working and thought this a worthy snowy scene to capture

The builds itself is fairly simple actually, illustrated here by the engine's two main "modules" consisting of the running gear-frame-bunker, and the Boiler-side tanks-cab assembly.

Originally a slate line, carrying the slate from the quarries 7 miles away, the Talyllyn railway closed in the early 1950's, reopening 18 months later as a preserved line.

I have a number of favourite authors of children's books. As well as Dr. Seuss, I think that the Reverend W. Awdry is one of my favourites - author of the Thomas the Tank Engine stories which I loved as a kid, and now my own kids love them too. I met him once, on a balmy summer evening as an eight year old boy. He signed one of his books, his looping black handwriting the same colour as the long black cassock he was wearing, his long straggly hair white like the clerical that he wore round his neck. Today the book is lost, which is a shame. I visited the Talyllyn Railway in Tywyn, Wales lots of times as a kid, and as I pitched my tent last week near here, the train whistles reminded me of this place. I thought I should go and have a look.

The Rev had worked here as a volunteer and a guard back in the 1950's when the Talyllyn railway became the first railway in the world to be "rescued" after it had closed. He based lots of his stories on ones that actually happened.

Working on a Diorama to complete before the end of the 80th

I've built out the corrugated house behind the station house, leaving just enough road to allow a 6-7w vehicle to drive between them.

Thomas the Tank Engine visited Greenfield Village this month, to the delight of the small children who were there in droves to ride the train. I admired him from afar.

Trains at the world's largest model train display (Entertrainment Junction)

Just a litte push-along for my son. It's Thomas like. I can't really draw worth a spit so the face is a bit strange but it passes the grade according to a three year old.

Also, this is my first train MOC. I enjoyed it a lot. I plan to do more.

Another new engine for 2017 is Spencer. He's heavily based on Bricktrix's Mallard, but with several revisions and obviously in grey, which posed it's own challenges. The tender is completely my own and contains all the PF components.

The other side of the church.

The church is back. I think I'll enlarge and refine this for 2018.

Andrew has such a flair for the period vehicles! This ambulance just looks awesome! I brought the windscreen tho...... haha!

Overview from the roundhouse and docks.

Josh's new and improved Knapford.

Terence doing some gardening.

All bricked up. Yet he still smiles? Henry needs a new face (these are the printed ones from last year, which I don't like as much).

Can't remember the name of the episode, but the suit of armour the engines get in a tizzy about and deliver to the castle. Couldn't resist!

My final version of Percy, he's awaiting an engraved or printed brick with a "No 6"

The warehouse from another angle, with a nicely loaded roundhouse in the background.

New warehouse at the docks. A REALLY last minute build, but I'm quite happy with the overall look.
