Orange Empire Railway Museum, Day Out With Thomas

Spotted on Dundas West.

To go with the 7-wide 'Toby' that I built a few months ago, I finally managed to finish an accompanying 'Henrietta'. She started out 8-wide and 2 studs longer, but she looks slightly better proportioned now, I think. Though I've had to reduce the side vents to 3 instead of 4.

I've built some linked steering in underneath, to aid the transitions round corners.

putting the christmas decorations back in the loft, I spotted the kids old train set. I just had to have a look. And as as special bonus I discovered that my Sigma 10-20mm lens does work on the 5D MkIII. Well, just a bit of vignetting...! but I like it!!

And as for HS2...what madness!

You cant have a museum without Thomas :-)

Approaching Birkhill Station

The 1899 Neilson Reid No.1 'Lord Roberts' was donated by the National Coal Board (NCB) to the Scottish Railway Preservation Society for use at their earlier Falkirk Depot in 1968.

The Tank Engine first seen service with the Coltness Iron Works Co Ltd in 1902 who kept her in operation for over 5 decades until being purchased by the NCB in 1955 and served at the Twechar & Bedley Collieries.

Lord Roberts was a distinguished British Army Officer who helped quell the Indian Mutiny and also served out in South Africa c1902 during the Boer War.

Today the engine masquerades as Thomas the Tank Engine a few times a year for the kids

The Bo'ness Railway began it's first public service on 27/6/1981

Next in my series of Railway Series LEGO models - Toby the tram engine!

I'd previously made a MOC of Toby, but he's since been updated to a more accurate width and a brick-built number. No modified parts or custom stickers - 100% genuine LEGO!

Well, if I'm going to start with Thomas, I might as well move to Percy next

Here they are together

Ant-Man and Thomas the Tank Engine take Yellowjacket for a ride.

I could watch that all day.

Built from 100% authentic LEGO. Thomas is DUPLO from a few years back.

Back view of the shed. A trickier build than it looks, it has a weatherboard system mounted on an angle, the windows floating and locked into place and of course the roof is made of multiple helicopter blades.

Here's the first of my Railway Series LEGO models - who else to start with but Thomas the Tank Engine? I'm very proud of this MOC - it incorporates my favourite elements from the various iterations of Thomas, including the red siderods as seen on Awdry's own model!

The lining and number were tricky to figure out - I don't like using custom stickers (especially if they're across multiple parts) so they had to be brick-built! The wheels are a custom from Big Ben Bricks but all other parts are genuine LEGO, no modified pieces either!

The boys built a huge train track today and played with it for quite a while. It was so cool, I had to take a few pictures. I used the train table top in the background to add some color.

Cooper came down sick with a fever yesterday, so we had a really mellow weekend. Besides the Vikings loss tonight, it was nice and relaxing.

I hope you all had a nice weekend as well.

Thomas the tank engine at the Bluebell Railway, Sheffield Park. He was the cleanest engine winner yesterday. What a lovely day out it is for both children and grown ups! :)

Graffiti Life, another belated Valentine among the rubbish of East London.

This one is for Maxwell, our older grandson. He had a book of all the stories of Thomas the Tank Engine, and I think I read almost all of them to him during a visit to LA. Part of a friend's magnificent model railroad setup.

Thomas the tank engine topper is made of icing.

Part #90840 (www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=90840#T=A) which first appeared in '76405 Hogwarts Express' just started my prediction of a 'Thomas The Tank Engine Collector's Edition' of the Icons range for 2024!

6A and Thomas bring up the rear. 6A is doing some work, but Thomas is just along for the ride.

If you doubted that it exists, I've met him for real.

Thomas the Tank Engine was a favorite of our older grandson when he was a bit younger -- I think I read it to him a zillion times!

Thomas puts on a show in 2-road at Gembrook before coupling on to the train.

Thomas the Tank Engine is featured in one of the best tags that I've seen.

This Bachmann product, in their line of Thomas the Tank Engine, has a fascinating drive system and it just looks really neat rolling along on my railroad.
