This time of year makes for spectacular crepuscular rays with the sun rising behind the Grand Teton as viewed from Teton Valley, Idaho.
This is a stocky jet-black myna, with bright orange-yellow patches of naked skin and fleshy wattles on the side of its head and nape. At about 29 cm length, it is somewhat larger than the common myna (Acridotheres tristis).
It is overall green-glossed black plumage, purple-tinged on the head and neck. Its large, white wing patches are obvious in flight, but mostly covered when the bird is sitting. The bill and strong legs are bright yellow, and there are yellow wattles on the nape and under the eye. These differ conspicuously in shape from the naked eye-patch of the common myna and bank myna (A. ginginianus), and more subtly vary between the different hill mynas from South Asia: in the common hill myna, they extend from the eye to the nape, where they join, while the Sri Lanka hill myna has a single wattle across the nape and extending a bit towards the eyes. In the Southern hill myna, the wattles are separate and curve towards the top of the head. The Nias and Enggano hill mynas differ in details of the facial wattles, and size, particularly that of the bill.
Sexes are similar; juveniles have a duller bill.[2]
With the Southern, Nias and Enggano hill mynas as separate species, the common hill myna, Gracula religiosa, has seven or eight subspecies which differ only slightly. They are:[3]
G. r. andamanensis Beavan 1867 – Andaman hill myna, Andaman Islands, central (Nancowry) group of the Nicobar Islands
G. r. batuensis – Batu and Mentawai Islands
G. r. halibrecta Oberholser 1926 – Great Nicobar hill myna, Great Nicobar Little Nicobar and adjacent islets in the Nicobar Islands, Doubtfully distinct from G. r. andamanensis.
G. r. intermedia – northwestern Indochina and adjacent northeastern India and southern China
G. r. palawanensis – Palawan in the Philippines
G. r. peninsularis – Bastar hill mynah, central India, (State Bird of Chhattisgarh, India)
G. r. religiosa – Greater Sundas (except Sulawesi) and Peninsular Malaysia
G. r. venerata – western Lesser Sundas

This is a loose recreation of Abu Simbel, the famous temple carved into the side of a mountaon in Egypt.
This is a creation for the MCCVI over at classic castle.

This is my entry for a small painting competition at a Danish forum. I choose to do something a bit different than usual as I mostly do 40K stuff. The small spider is made from a skull token from the bezerker kit and some legs made from jeweler wire. The cobwebs was done with a special crackle lacquer mixed with water and applied with an airbrush, an amazing technique invented by a very talented painter, Raffaele Picca.
This bridge crosses Amsterdam’s Singel canal, which encircled the city in the Middle Ages. It served as a moat around the city until 1585, when Amsterdam expanded beyond the Singel. The canal is now lined by many beautiful, richly decorated traditional gable houses built during the Dutch Golden Age.

This is such a fun thing to watch. I noticed it's active this morning. This one says cloudy skies snow in winter. It's very accurate.
How to Predict the Weather:
Clear liquid: Bright and clear weather.
Cloudy liquid: Cloudy, possible thunderstorms & rain.
Small dots in the liquid: Humid or foggy weather.
Large flaky crystals: Cloudy skies, snow in winter.
Threads of crystals at the top: Windy weather. Crystals at the bottom: Frost may be coming.

This little friendly Corgi dog was tied up along the railing at an outdoor Cafe and was just so anxious to be petted that he actually broke free of his harness and ran onto the side walk! Caught him in the nick of time as the owners did not realize he had broken free.
This isn't really finished... but happy Easter anyway (represented here - for some reason - by the unrealistic number of daffodils!)
I am a little late for the weekly theme, but I didn’t get this done last week and I wanted to introduce myself. It’s been a few years since I did a “proper” selfie, so I wanted to update my “official” Flickr photo as well.
I am Linda, and am a 60-something widow. The past few years have been full of changes for me, as my husband passed away and I moved to an easier to maintain home in a subdivision after 36 years in the country. I am adjusting to “city living” and love my new home and neighborhood. I discovered Flickr in 2013, and photography and the Flickr community has gotten me through some rough patches. I have been challenged with chronic fatigue syndrome and chemical sensitivites for 20 years now, and I love photography because it is something creative I can do that matches my energy level. On my good days I get out my DSLR and experiment, and on my “bad” days, I can take something easy with my iPhone. I have completed two 365s so far, and attempted several others. Last year I only got halfway. This year I am taking it a day at a time, and we’ll see what happens. :-)

"Al" the Allen's Hummingbird greeted me again at the Los Angeles County Arboretum. I recognize him - the little bit of whatever attached to his throat was there a week earlier !! He needs a bib !! Hit "L" for a closer look.
This old, white oak, west of Saline, is over 200 years old and surviving quite well.
These trees can tell a lot about the local history, they predate white settlement in this part of Michigan.
This photo was taken at Sion Lodge, Ferrybank, Waterford. The clergyman pictured had baptised the two babies who are replendent in their christening robes. One of these women is Mrs Augustus Smith, but not sure which. Incidentally, Mrs Smith was a member of the Waterford & South-East of Ireland Archaeological Society...

This rhododendron is in my front yard and is one that I had trouble finding when I planted the Bed... It has been around for at least a hundred years so I guess people want the newer ones and not the old standbys....I also have a Cynthia in the back yard but it isn't blooming yet... I put this one in the little video but wanted it so I could see it all the time :-)
This distinctive 1.5-story residence stands as one of Pacific Grove’s larger early homes, showcasing a strong Queen Anne influence through its intact architectural features and period craftsmanship. The steeply pitched gable roof is adorned with decorative boxed cornices and fishscale shingles, echoed again in the gable detailing. A small front porch, bracketed and embellished with fishscale shingles, welcomes visitors, while a large rear porch offers additional outdoor space. The exterior is clad in horizontal wood drop siding, and a charming bay window with two bracketed cut-away corners adds visual interest and stylistic flair. Windows are segmented 1-over-1, framed with decorative sills and trim, and complemented by stained or leaded glass and transoms. The house retains its original form and materials, with the exception of the expanded rear porch, and remains a well-preserved example of Queen Anne design from Pacific Grove’s Early Development period (1873–1902), notable for its authenticity, craftsmanship, and architectural integrity.
This is the Skyline of Toronto Ontario Canada from about 25 Km away in Oakville. I'am standing by the lighthouse looking east across the bay, along Lake Ontario, Looking east at the CN Tower.
This female Harlequin Duck stood alone on this mossy rock. She posed elegantly for a few minutes, then decided she needed a good stretch.

I tried to keep the ship as compact as possible while also being able to place a Delta-7 Jedi Starfighter in it's hangar.

This little robin just kept getting closer and closer today so much so that I had to move back! Posed beautifully next to a little daisy!
I didn't know the name of this exotic plant, the leaves seem like papaya tree, very strange.

I've had a very long, physically tiring day already and it's only 9:30! After I finish posting this, I'm going to have some second breakfast and then go back to bed for a while.
This self portrait is inspired by Peter S. Beagle's book and movie The Last Unicorn. It's one of my very favorite works and he is one of my writing heroes. I had a lovely encounter with him recently, which you can read about here if you would like. And there may be a bit more Beagle-ness on it's way in the near future... :)
In the story, the Unicorn is turned into a human girl by magic in order to save her from a pressing threat. After having lived for centuries as an immortal creature, she finds the sudden weight of mortality nearly unbearable.
Edit: Peter S. Beagle himself saw this photo through Twitter and called it "exquisite." I nearly died from joy.

This is the fourth of a 5-image series I made a couple weeks ago. One morning, there was a light fog in our neighborhood, and I went out to make some autumn-colored photos.

This is the magnificent Pandan Beach, Honda Bay, Philippines, part of the island of Palawan and close to Puerte Princesa, where we were based. To get here entailed a 1/2 hour van ride to the harbour, then waiting for our bungka (native boat) to be assigned, and then we were off. There were 6 of us, 2 from Manila, Luke and Linda from Sydney, Australia (small world) and Rosey and myself. This was the magnificent scene after we had landed on the beach. I chose photography and Rosey chose skin diving or snorkeling. We both had a wonderful time I can assure you!!!!!!
For your Facebook Fans, here is the link to all the pics at Puerte Princesa ...............
