NASA says it has received a signal from 540 million miles across the Solar System, confirming its Juno spacecraft has successfully started orbiting Jupiter. "Welcome to Jupiter!" flashed on screens at mission control at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena, CA!
The probe had to conduct a tricky maneuver to slow down enough to allow it to be pulled into orbit: It fired its main engine for 35 minutes, effectively hitting the brakes to slow the spacecraft by about 1,212 miles per hour (542 meters per second). "NASA did it again," said Scott Bolton, Juno principal investigator. Juno was launched nearly five years ago on a mission to study Jupiter's composition and evolution. It's the first spacecraft to orbit Jupiter since Galileo!

The dramatic vaulted ceiling of Lambert-St. Louis International Airport Main Terminal. Designed by architect Minoru Yamasaki in 1956.
The 'Thin Blue Line' memorial cross is in a grove of white birch trees across from the site of the crash. The cross, built and erected by Ann's law enforcement officer friends, was dedicated in a ceremony on 12-22-2011, and stands as a symbol of a life remembered, and a daughter, sister, and friend, deeply loved.
..................NONETTE'S REMARKS AT DEDICATION CEREMONY.................
"As surprising as this may seem--when Ann was a little girl, she went through a phase when she was timid, and wouldn't talk to people she didn't know. At restaurants she would insist that we order for her because she was too shy to speak to the waiter.
We all know that she grew up to be a confident outspoken person -- sometimes when you didn't want her to be. But on this occasion I find myself, once again, needing to speak for her.
She would be so impressed to see the support of her fellow officers and friends after a very difficult year. And she would be so grateful to the officers who erected this beautiful symbolic cross in her memory.
But she would be saddened to know that her death has been evaluated and analyzed only in terms of distance, speed, angles and measurements, and an autopsy report. She would be disappointed that no one -- not the Houston Police Department and not her own employer, the University of Houston Department of Public Safety -- tried to answer the question, “Why did this happen?”
We found intolerable this callous bureaucratic indifference to the tragic death of a hero.
Something beyond her control caused her car to yaw across this road and prevented her from correcting properly. Since we were told that HPD's role in the investigation did not include a thorough inspection of the car -- that HPD’s role was to determine WHAT happened, not WHY it happened, we felt compelled to get an opinion from independent accident investigators with impeccable credentials.
They discovered four serious defects in the computer mount, which we believe caused her death when she was struck on her right hand and momentarily lost the ability to steer on this dark, winding 2-lane street. At our request, the medical examiner recently re-examined photographs and drawings of the three contusions on the back of her right hand, just below the knuckles, when her hand was on the steering wheel. Her conclusion was that the contusions are consistent with Ann’s hand being struck by an object like the computer itself, or the computer mounting tray.
We also now know that this same thing has happened to at least 2 other UH officers.
And we know that the people she was with prior to the crash describe her demeanor as normal, including two security guards who were with her for the 20 minutes before she got the call, and immediately responded.
We believe that all of this information should be disclosed by UofH. But since that hasn’t happened, we must speak for Ann.
After our difficult year-long quest for information, we are confident that Ann was fit for duty that night, and that we are here tonight only as a result of a defective computer mount.
We know that you have all lived through a turbulent year and Ann would never have wanted this for you. But the fact is, all she was trying to do that night was her job. She was trying to help someone -- as you all do every shift – and she lost her life in the process.
God bless this police officer, unit 429 -- our Annie, and God bless all of you."
Thin - means - thin layer of gesso. The pencil have different stroke and texture when applying onto thin gesso layer. Less texture, more separate stokes can be seen, wanted blending achieved with turpentine application.

Sooo I didn't do much today. And I really had no idea for a shot. So I just quickly snapped this. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. I haven't really taken any holiday shots, except for the candy cane one. Perhaps I will tomorrow. Or I may just wait until Christmas.
