This image is actually a couple of years old. I was never really happy with the treatment , so I reprocessed it for part 2 of the Smithville Water Tower Trilogy. If I didn't include this one, I would only have 2 shots of the water tower and then I couldn't call it a trilogy. It sounds so much better than just a pair.

My last seagull pic prompted a few questions about textures and which ones I'm using, so I thought I'd post another shot of my "kitchen."

You can see that I'm actually using three textures, and two to three layers of each, which I've blended in and out using masks and various overlay modes.

The post processing on this one got pretty extensive - about 24 layers (including 8 texture layers, 3 high-pass layers, and 9 adjustment layers). Fun!! :)

This is one of my favorite milk pictures and I just want to share it again for this week's assignment.

Namibia is an incredible country for landscapes. After spending time in the Dunes exploring on foot, a flight was irresistible. From the air the enormous dunes become a scape of light and shade, form and texture.

Much of the desert is pure wilderness, rare indeed. The action of wind on sand creates a sensuous kind of geometry on the grand scale and on closer viewing the ripples create a beautiful and complex texture.

A lot of my photography of these remote places tries to capture the pristine beauty and convey the silence that accompanies it.

Texture at 50mm

İznik pottery, named after the town in western Anatolia where it was made, is a decorated ceramic that was produced from the last quarter of the 15th century until the end of the 17th century.

The town of İznik was an established centre for the production of simple earthenware pottery with an underglaze decoration when in the last quarter of the 15th century, craftsmen in the town began to manufacture high quality pottery with a fritware body painted with cobalt blue under a colourless lead glaze. The meticulous designs combined traditional Ottoman arabesque patterns with Chinese elements.

During the 16th century the decoration of the pottery gradually changed in style, becoming looser and more flowing. Additional colours were introduced. Initially turquoise was combined with the dark shade of cobalt blue and then the pastel shades of sage green and pale purple were added. Finally, in the middle of the century, a very characteristic bole red replaced the purple and a bright emerald green replaced the sage green. The city's role as primary ceramics producer was taken up by Kütahya.

Plentiful examples of the İznik's tile production exist in numerous cities throughout Turkey, such as İstanbul, Bursa, Edirne, Adana, and Diyarbakır. In Istanbul alone examples of İznik tiling can be seen in at least 40 mosques, tombs, libraries, and palace buildings, such as the Rüstem Pasha Mosque, the Sokollu Mehmet Paşa Mosque, the tomb of Selim II in the Hagia Sophia complex, and certain buildings of the Topkapı Palace complex such as the Circumcision room and the Baghdad Kiosk.

The Topkapı Palace (Turkish: Topkapı Sarayı or in Ottoman Turkish: طوپقپو سرايى) is a large palace in Istanbul, Turkey, that was the primary residence of the Ottoman Sultans for approximately 400 years (1465-1856) of their 624-year reign.

As well as a royal residence, the palace was a setting for state occasions and royal entertainments. It is now a major tourist attraction and contains important holy relics of the Muslim world including the Prophet Muhammed's cloak and sword. The Topkapı Palace is among the monuments contained within the Historic Areas of Istanbul which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985, and is described in Criterion iv as the best example of palaces of the Ottoman period.
