The sands of the Lower Antelope Canyon are forming an absolutely stunning textured rock passage that leads deeper in to the Labyrinth

Crystal has one of the most inspirational photo streams on flickr. One of the greatest assests of this site is it's ability to inspire others. She knows how to get a photo to feel a certain way. Her use of textures and tones inspired me to look back to photos from my trip to Tennessee in September and see if I could create something like she does. Not sure if it works or not but... hey, practice makes perfect right?

So anyway, here's a thank you to Crystal who not only creates great photos, but inspirational works of art. I think I'm going to have to buy a fancy parasol and have fun with it too.

Weekend means going through the archives. And with the exception of that really fun maternity shoot yesterday, I think today I'll be giving my trigger finger the day off.

Plastic covering the inside of a dirty window in a building I happened to walk by.

"It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit." ~ Robert Louis Stevenson

So, I'm having a little texture contest. You can participate by submitting your photo using the texture to the Facebook group, Jessica Drossin Textures. If you win in one of three ways, you can choose a texture pack of your choice or my holiday card templates. I'd put up a link, but Flickr would probably delete my account... Anyhoo, participate or not, here's a free texture. Hope you enjoy it. Please credit me if you use it.

An image in keeping with the contests I run for the Black and White group: High key (August contest) and Texture (September contest). The shell is about 1.5 inches (3-4 cm) long.

I just noticed that my face is three times on the first page of the stream. Sorry for that! As soon as I have some time, I will upload, so the universal balance (or inbalace) will be re-established.

Texture conceptuel paint.

An autumn Chinese lantern in our garden.

It's fabulous how the cover drops away to leave this amazing filigree cage holding the perfectly round orange seed.

Add a bit of low autumn sunshine and shadow onto the grainy timber of the picnic table in the garden for a photographic moment!

The last remnants of one of my tulips but it will be back next year, that's why I've called this shot hope. Texture dustyrose by Kim Klassen

Opinion

One frustration of mine is finding a great resource and then having your hands tied by some overly exhaustive guideline provided by the creating artist. Sometimes I believe that people get too carried away with the rules and restrictions they apply to their resources. I want to avoid that with my textures, which is why I am encouraging the outright abuse of these textures. Well, you get what I mean.

Ode To a Fungus

I was sitting in Biology

Talking about fungus

I really love discussing

Mushrooms that are humongous.

They give me so much happiness

Like nothing has before.

Deuteromycote enraptures me

It could never be a bore!

I'm sure that everyone

Would totally agree

When you could hug a fungus

Why would you hug a tree?

I was out for a walk the other afternoon and came across a fallen branch covered with lichen and fungus. That will make a good photo I thought but the light was going and so I decided to put it in the car boot and take it back with me. It was about three feet long and after walking back to the car, trying to ignore the strange looks I was getting from people driving past, I took it back and put it in the garden.

Next morning, frost and sunshine ! Perfect
