At Stripa mines have been broken iron ore since the Middle ages. The earliest written records come from the 1440's.
Stripa, the name comes from the non-magnetic, quarter-striped and striped bloodstone ore hematite, which has been the dominant deposit. But also significant amounts of black magnetite ore, which is magnetic has been broken over the centuries.
Strips are also a unifying name for all small mines in the area who all have separate names.
Stripa mine is since 2006 a protected historic building and is the only surviving complete iron ore mine of its kind.
The area around the mine covers 70 hectares. It houses the oldest mining area with its many open and deep pits, the newer facility which became operational at the beginning of 1900, ore storage and treatment ponds to the enrichment plant
The original owners of the mines were powerful men in the mining industry and over the years they split up in two mining team.
The competing Ottesgruvelaget and Stripagruvelaget. They were later merged in 1806 to a mining company which in 1868 became a company called Great Stripa Grufebolag. Among the company's stakeholders included Dahlkarlshytte and Guldsmedshytte Mill. The mining company was sold 1939 to Stripa Mining AB with Ställbergs Mining AB as the largest shareholder.
The production at the mine stopped in 1977 and at that time the mine had a depth of approximately 450 meters. Most of the plant was taken over by Stripa Mineral AB, which devote themselves to crushing and milling of external recycling products. Underground portion was bought by Stripa mine AB they let experts research and do experiments on the future storage of used nuclear fuel. Since 2007 Stripa mine is owned by Stripa Culture and Development Corporation in Lindesbergs municipality. The intention is to preserve and display it as a unique attraction and experience facility.
In Stripa you are able to follow the course of history throughout the mining period from medieval to modern times. That is why this mine is especially appropriate and important from a pedagogical point of view of teaching and research.
The restoration of the mining buildings began in autumn 2006 and is expected to take many years. Parts of the enrichment plant facade, windows and roofs have been fixed. The mining company's name-plate the S-mark, that stands for Ställbergs Mining AB. It has been restored with new neon lighting and sits on top of the new renovated mine-hoist. The year 2008 began an attempt with a type of recycling production in the enrichment-plants machinery. If the experiment succeeds, the visitors will see the enrichment-plant in production eventually.
The old mining area will be made available by hiking trails and protecting prevention devices around the many mining holes and other things from earlier mining periods.

Es tracta del primer disc protagonitzat íntegrament per aquests dos mestres de l'slapstick sonor d'ençà que al 2004 va veure la llum el ja gairebé mític El Avión. I started this painting in early 2005 and finished it in mid 2006. I had done the background and purple squiggles. And I didn't know what to do with it and it sat and sat and sat. Then, this came to me and it seemed right.

The Squirrel Cuckoo, Piaya cayana, is a near-passerine bird. This cuckoo is a resident breeding bird from northwestern Mexico to northern Argentina and Uruguay, and on Trinidad.
The Squirrel Cuckoo is found in woodland canopy and edges, second growth, hedges and semi-open habitats from sea level to as high as 2500 m altitude, although it is uncommon above 1200 m. The nest is a cup of leaves on a twig foundation, hidden in dense vegetation 1-12 m high in a tree. The female lays two white eggs.
This large species is 43-46 cm long and weighs 95-105 g. The adult has mainly chestnut upperparts and head, becoming paler on the throat. The lower breast is grey and the belly is blackish. The tail is boldly banded in black and white. The bill and bare eyering are yellow and the iris is red. Immature birds have a grey bill and eyering, brown iris, and less white in the tail.
There are a number of subspecies with minor plumage variations. For example, P. c. mehleri, a South American form, has a brown-and-white banded tail.
This species’ English name derives from its habit of running along branches and leaping from branch to branch like a squirrel. It normally flies only short distances, mainly gliding with an occasional flap.
The Squirrel Cuckoo makes explosive kip! and kip! weeuu calls, and the song is a whistled wheep wheep wheep wheep.
It feeds on large insects such as cicadas, wasps and caterpillars (including those with stinging hairs or spines), and occasionally spiders and small lizards. Its static prey is typically taken off the foliage with a quick lunge, but wasps may be picked out of the air.

REPRODUÇÃO: É comum entre as aves desta espécie, várias fêmeas usarem o mesmo ninho, mesmo sendo de um outro pássaro. A ninhada consiste de 10 a 20 ovos, de cor verde azulada. Não se sabe se as fêmeas se revezam no choco, mas são muitas as que contribuem na alimentação dos filhotes.
DISTRIBUIÇÃO GEOGRÁFICA: Venezuela, Guiana, em quase todo o território nacional, no Paraguai, Uruguai e norte da Argentina.
Segundo uma lenda amazônica, a alma-de-gato possui um canto fatídico: quando canta à porta da casa de alguém, este está com os dias contados. Claro que isto não passa de lenda. Aliás, essa ave deve ser protegida, pois é muito útil ao agricultor. O exame de 155 estômagos de almas-de-gato evidenciou que estas aves são insetívoras e que 50% do conteúdo era de lagartas que atacam as nossas culturas.
A alma-de-gato é uma ave da família dos cucos; mede 50 cm de comprimento, dos quais2/3 pertencem à cauda, daí também ser conhecida como rabilonga. A cor é castanho-parda no dorso e cinza-ardósia na barriga. O pescoço e o peito são vermelho-acinzentados e a cauda tem penas escuras de pontas brancas. No norte do país é ainda conhecida como chincoã, tinguaçu e rabo-de-escrivão. Existem 7 subespécies ou raças geográficas dessa ave, encontrada na Venezuela, Guiana, em quase todo o território nacional, no Paraguai, Uruguai e norte da Argentina. Em outros Estados do Brasil são atribuídos à alma-de-gato ainda os seguintes nomes: meia-pataca, crocoió, alma-de-caboclo, atingaú, tincoã e rabo-de-palha.

I passed briefly by the filming for the Sweet City Lip Dub video on Saturday, did grab a couple of photos, but didn't stay for long...
Peeling paint on Helvetica text. I found this on a mural I came across in Tucson, Arizona. The video store also had a huge mural of the Virgin Mary which I will upload later. I love the texture and effects of weathering on the stucco exterior.
