All smiles in the cab as DB Cargo's Class 92, 92029 "Dante" returns from store after 8 years and 2 months, completing an initial test run from Crewe ETD into the station and back.
The reinstatement of 92029 - to bolster the UK tunnel fleet - commenced in mid-2019, but was soon postponed due to other priorities (the Grand Central Class 90s) and then Covid. Work recommenced in earnest in December 2020, but has been stop-start since then with other projects and active fleet repairs again taking priority at various times.
Good things come to those who wait, however, and 92029 eventually made her return in the glorious early June sunshine running on a local move as 0Z23 Crewe ETD - Crewe Station (UDL) - Crewe ETD.
Op 24 april 2017 werd er afgereisd naar Tsjechië voor een weekje vakantie langs het spoor. Tijdens deze vakantie werd er onder andere een bezoek gebracht aan de testring bij Velim voor de nieuwe SNG van NS.
Bij aankomst in Tsjechië bleek de SNG niet het enige CAF treinstel te zijn dat getest werd. De ATR 465 001 van Trenitalia zat aan het einde van de testperiode en reed op 24 april 2017 wat laatste rondje over de kleine testring. Na deze laatste rondjes werd het treinstel in de loods gezet om later in de week te vertrekken uit Tsjechië.

Bij het ingaan van de dienstregeling van 2018 zal de Eurostar tussen Londen en Brussel worden doorgetrokken naar Amsterdam Centraal.
Enige tijd geleden kwam daarom de eerste Eurostar E320 naar Nederland voor toelatingsritten. Het maar liefst 16-delige treinstel van het type Siemens Velaro reed onder andere tussen Roosendaal en Venlo en over de HSL tussen Amsterdam en Rotterdam.
Net als een nacht later kwam de Eurostar 4013/4014 in de nacht van 9 op 10 mei 2016 naar de Hanzelijn voor een aantal testritten tussen Swifterbant en Kampen Zuid. Hierbij werden onder andere de pantografen nauwlettend in de gaten gehouden. Hoewel het bijna 400 meter lange treinstel niet langs het perron past, was het blok lang genoeg om te keren.
Op de foto komt de nieuwe Eurostar iets na middennacht spoor 1 van het station van Kampen Zuid binnenrollen om ongeveer een kwartier later weer te vertrekken richting Swifterbant.

Op 4 april 2016 werden er een tweetal nieuwe NS FLIRT's overgebracht vanuit Maastricht naar Zwolle. De dagen daarop volgend werden er verschillende testritten gereden. Overdag tussen Driebergen en Ede/Wageningen en 's avonds op de Hanzelijn.
Op 6 april 2016 was het de NS 2501 die verschillende slagen reed door de Flevopolder. Omdat de FLIRT-stellen slechts voorbereid zijn op ETCS en er getest moest worden op 160km/h, werd de ATB uitgeschakeld en reed het stel als het ware onbeveiligd over de Hanzelijn.
Op de foto staat de NS 2501 kort voor half 10 in de avond te keren op het station van Lelystad Centrum om kort na de foto weer te vertrekken voor een rit naar Zwolle.

Personenzüge auf der Lötschberg-Südrampe sind im Regelfall nur die RegioExpress der BLS welche mit RABe 535 ‚Lötschberger‘ oder mit viel ‚Glück‘ mit RABe 525 ‚Nina‘ geführt werden. Die SBB fährt an Sonntagen auch planmässig den einen oder anderen InterCity über die Bergstrecke, jedoch erst nach 22.00 Uhr. Somit ist es eben irgendwie doch immer wieder ein Highlight wenn man neben den RE auch mal andere Personenzüge am Lötschberg vor die Linse bekommt. Umso spezieller ist es wie in diesem Fall, wenn es sich beim Rollmaterial um solches handelt, welches planmässig nie auf der Lötschberg-Bergstrecke unterwegs ist bzw. sein wird.
Beim Triebzug handelt es sich um einen STADLER SMILE (ehemals EC250) welcher bei den SBB den Namen Giruno trägt. Als einziger bisheriger Kunde hat die SBB 29 dieser Triebzüge bestellt um sie ab Ende 2019 auf der internationalen Verbindung von Zürich durch den Gotthard-Basistunnel nach Mailand einzusetzen.
Alle 29 Triebzüge erhalten ein Kantonswappen bzw. den Namen eines Berges (027-029: Gotthard, Simplon, Ceneri). Der abgebildete Zug soll zukünftig das Wappen des Kantons Luzern tragen.

Passenger trains on the Lötschberg-line are usually RABe 535 ‚Lötschberger‘ or with a lot of ‚luck‘ RABe 525 ‚Nina‘ of the private company BLS. SBB passenger trains are rare, scheduled are only a few InterCity-trains on Sunday after 10 p.m.
So every time some other passenger trains rather than the usual BLS RegioExpress trains run on the Lötschberg, it is a picture worth taking. Especially if the rolling stock, as in this case, is not planned to run on this line in commercial service.
The train is a STADLER SMILE (formerly EC250) which the SBB calls Giruno. SBB, as of yet the sole customer for this type of high-speed train, has ordered 29 units to use them on the international route from Zurich via Gotthard Basetunnel to Milan starting from the end of 2019.
Trains 001 - 026 will receive a coat of arms from one of the 26 swiss Cantons. Numbers 027-029 will receive the names Gotthard, Simplon and Ceneri respectively. The pictured unit 004 will receive the blazon of Canton Lucerne.

Met ingang van de dienstregeling van 2017 zal Abellio een treindienst gaan rijden tussen Arnhem en Duisburg (D). Voor deze grensoverschrijdende treinserie zal Abellio treinstellen van het type FLIRT3 in gaan zetten.
Voor de toelating worden er verschillende testritten gereden in Nederland. De afgelopen tijd alleen in het zuiden van ons land, maar op 28 juni 2016 kwamen de drie in Nederland aanwezige stellen voor het eerst naar de Hanzelijn.
Op de foto komen de Abellio 2301, 2302 en 2303 als trein 91544 langs de Hondweg bij Dronten tijdens de eerste testrit naar Zwolle.

Op 3 maart 2016 maakte de Raildox 76 110 een tweetal slagen over de Hanzelijn tussen Zwolle en Lelystad. De loc reed vandaag verschillende ETCS proefritten onder andere tussen Amsterdam en Utrecht en dus Zwolle en Lelystad.
Tijdens de eerste slag op de hanzelijn komt de Raildox 76 110 stapvoets langs de Jules van Hasseltweg bij Kampen onderweg naar Lelystad.

5G97 Haymarket Depot to Haymarket Depot. Class 43 HST Intercity 125 set in Scotrail Inter7citys livery seen here at Cowdenbeath station. having followed me up from Haymarket (platform 0), I can only assume this some kind of mileage accumulation run with the set having had some major repairs? It looks like a fitter and driver in the cab having just changed ends and not even that sure if an HST is that common on the Fife Circle.
In de nacht van 10 op 11 juni 2020 stonden de eerste testritten voor de WINK's van Arriva op het programma. Vanuit Amersfoort ging de 3 in Nederland aanwezige treinstellen naar Zwolle voor een serie testritten op de Hanzelijn.
Aangekomen in Zwolle bleef het geheel opvallend lang op spoor 5 staan, alle aangevraagde ritten tussen Zwolle en Dronten waren eruit gegooid.
Met een klein half uur vertraging staan de Arriva 604, 602 en 601 op de foto alsnog klaar voor vertrek als trein 38401 naar Dronten. Helaas waren de verdwenen ritten niet het enige wat deze nacht mis zou lopen. De testritten kwamen in Kampen Zuid vervroegd ten einde vanwege ongeplande werkzaamheden op de Hanzelijn.

Toen Arriva vertrokken was uit Zwolle kwam de volgende testtrein al snel het station binnenrollen. Al een aantal weken rijdt de NS 3103 testritten door heel het land.
De eerste ritten werden gereden vanuit Onnen, later werd het treinstel in Utrecht gestald. In de avond van 23 juni 2020 vertrok de NS 3103 vanuit Utrecht naar Zwolle voor nachtelijke testritten op de Hanzelijn. Net als Arriva zou de ICNG gaan rijden tussen Zwolle en Dronten.
Helaas reed het treinstel in eerste instantie te ver door voor een foto, maar de vriendelijke machinist was de beroerdste niet en reed de trein enkele meters op voordat vertrokken werd voor de eerste rit naar Zwolle.

A glimmer of light amongst the doom and gloom currently surrounding the wider DB Cargo electric fleet - Class 92, 92036 "Bertolt Brecht" heads out for a test run from Crewe to Stafford and back, running as 0Z92.
92036 is the last of the seven operational DB Cargo UK 92s to receive the ICMU mods which allow the fleet to run on the WCML - and was back on Network Rail metals under its own power for the first time in seven years.
Na het verkopen van de GTW heeft Connexion een tweetal FLIRT-treinstellen besteld. In de tussentijd werd gebruik gemaakt van een koppel diesel-GTW's van Breng.
Nadat de FLIRT's afgeleverd waren werden er de nodige test en instructieritten gereden vanuit Amersfoort. Een aantal dagen voordat de treinstellen in dienst kwamen stond er wederom een instructierit gepland naar Apeldoorn.
In de avond van 26 januari 2018 staat de CXX 5038 in het station van Apeldoorn kort voordat als trein 82923 naar Amersfoort vertrokken zal worden.

Op 3 maart 2016 reden verschillende treinen testritten over de Hanzelijn. Naast de Raildox 76 110 en de PCW Vectron maakte ook de nieuwe NSR Flirt-3 een slag tussen Lelystad en Zwolle.

In de nacht van 3 op 4 november 2017 vonden er proefritten plaats met één van de nieuwe NS SNG treinstellen. Op de planning stonden een aantal slagen tussen Zwolle en Lelystad met de NS 2301.
Het is inmiddels bijna 3 uur 's nachts als de NS 2301 klaar staat om te vertrekken als trein 393245 naar Lelystad Centrum. Kort na het maken van de foto kwam het bericht dat alle verdere ritten verder afgelast en het stel ging overnachten op Zwolle Rangeer.

One of a handful of new Stadler KISS units, christened MUTZ (Moderner Universeller TriebZug) by BLS, RABe 515 no. 515 037 passes Einigen on a test run from Bern to Frutigen. It entered service 3 days later.
With transfers still to be added, and carrying a temporary white number, 37703 passes Langley, Erewash Valley line on 10th September 1997, with a test run from Toton.
Class 40 pair D345 (40145) and D213 (40013) "Andania" - both on long-term hire to Locomotive Services Limited - approach Calveley Hall Lane as they return from a test run to Chester.
The test run was in preparation for LSL/InterCity's "The Devonian Double" railtour from Preston to Plymouth the following Saturday.
40145 - owned by the Class 40 Preservation Society - has recently been repainted into British Railways green by LSL as part of the hire deal. It now matches privately-owned 40013, which was already presented immaculately in this livery.
Despite the headcode box, the second of a possible four runs (to and from Chester twice) was running as 0K42 11:10 Chester to Crewe Holding Sidings.
I "carri merci innovativi" sviluppati in collaborazione dal Ministero dei trasporti tedesco, da DB e da VTG corrono silenziosi tra le risaie novaresi al comando della E484.017 di SBB.
A titolo di curiosità, su questo treno c'è anche un po' d'Italia essendo stati prodotti dalla Lucchini gli assi e le ruote a basso impatto sonoro delle bisarche e delle cisterne.

Sinds week 25 vinden er dagelijks testritten plaats met de nieuwe Syntus FLIRT3 treinstellen. Inmiddels zijn er naast de 7401 en 7402 ook een tweetal 3-delige treinstellen (7301 en 7302) in Nederland aangekomen.
Op 22 juni 2017 mocht de Syntus 7402 een aantal testritten rijden tussen Utrecht Centraal en Ede-Wageningen. Als trein 91931 komt het nieuwe treinstel langs Emminkhuizen onderweg tijdens de eerste rit vanuit Amersfoort naar Ede-Wageningen.

Op 6 januari 2016 maakte de eerste van 6 R-NET Flirt-3 treinstellen verschillende proefritten over de Hanzelijn tussen Lelystad en Zwolle. R-NET is de naam waaronder NS en Abellio van december 2016 de treindienst tussen Gouda en Alphen en aan de Rijn over gaan nemen.
Tijdens iedere slag werd er gestopt op het station van Dronten om de InterCity voor te laten. Zo ook tijdens de laatste slag. Op de foto staat de NSR 2010 op het station van Dronten te wachten op vertrek naar Zwolle. Na aankomst in Zwolle zou het stel via Lelystad terug gaan naar de werkplaats in Leidschendam.

DRS 37419 'Carl Haviland 1954-2012' with hired in 37601 'Perseus' sit in Fairwater Yard, Taunton. Having coupled up with the west facing snow plough, the drivers had walked down the yard to wait for the shed doors to be opened to access the east facing plough.
The locos had worked their way over from Stowmarket having visited Tonbridge the previous evening to take the ploughs out for a test run to Ashford before working to Taunton last night. With 37425 (electrical fault) and 37401 (hours/exam) both sidelined at Stowmarket ex DRS 37601 was hired in from Rail Operations Group.
New BR AM5 A/C electric unit 513 on a test run leaving Hackney Downs station, on a grey day in October 1960.
Electrification had been completed in September, and full passenger services started in November.
The AM5s later became BR Class 305, and the last example was withdrawn in 2002. None were preserved.

ROTTERDAM - Al drie weken lang worden er drie à vier keer per week proefritten gereden met E320, ter voorbereiding op de Eurostar-dienst die over een paar maanden van start moet gaan.
Na een reeks nachtelijke proefritten op het Nederlandse deel van de HSL zien we hier Eurostar 4031/4032 op Rotterdam Centraal, tijdens een korte stop op weg naar Brussel en Londen, als trein 19661, vlak voor zonsopkomst.
