Before the main raised beds could be built, we wanted to try out a SUDS (sustainable urban drainage system) surface to see if it would be accessible for wheelchairs. Leonard Cheshire at Llanhennock had a very expensive custom made swing, which fits a wheelchair and carer. However, it was sited onto the grass. It became apparent that the grass was wet and wheelchairs couldn't get to it for most of the year. They put in some temporary woodchip boarding on the floor, but this became treacherously wet for the carers and is rarely used. We thought that this would be a great place to try out the SUDS flooring. We drew up a plan, which was quickly agreed and started by creating the 9 inch frame, digging it out, adding membrane, backfilling with 150mm of MOT type 3, compacting, adding 30 mm of limestone chips (~10 mm), compacting, adding the PP40 recycled pavers, backfilling with limestone chips and light compacting. Easy as. The surface is fantastic and we'll get onto doing the same thing for the base of the main growing area. Area designed by Chris Partridge and kindly assisted by Tom Ward-Jackson on digging day one and by Sally Morgan on filling in day one. The SUDS surface will soak up a lot of water rather than letting it was off into adjacent areas, making them less waterlogged and boggy.
Just keep drinking water and you'll be alright.
no more paralysis. temporary or not temporary. this is going to end. my back is on fire and my knees are imploding and i haven't felt better. i lifted with the lacrosse mates today, first time thats happened in awhile, which is great.
teachers have sunk in and the education thereafter, im sure this will all sort out. optimism is the new black and i have to actually make it through all my classes without falling asleep so im going to get under the covers. join me?

I'm not trying to pass this picture of the female Red-breasted Nuthatch off as a good picture. I just liked the way the shadow from one of the feeder supports looked like a field mark. The 2 RBN's must have made 50 trips each to the feeder during the afternoon. I think they were storing some of the seeds, eating others.

The National Guard and local Coast Guard base were testing out a temporary pontoon bridge to cross the Portage Waterway. In case the nearby Lift Bridge were to break down for an extended period, it is important that another link be established quickly. Both local hospitals and many other emergency services are on the north side of the waterway (hence the tests with firetrucks and ambulances).

At the beginning of cleanup we install fencing for safety reasons. The fencing keeps people and pets from accidentally getting in the way of construction equipment. After cleanup is complete we leave the fencing in place for several weeks to protect the new sod and other plants from getting trampled while they establish their roots.
This temporary pelican crossing has just sprung up on Maendy Way where it crosses the Monmouthshire-Brecon Canal. The canal towpath is very busy with walkers and cyclists, and bus passengers, often waiting unduly for a suitable break in the traffic both ways to cross the road. Over the last couple of years I have lobbied the council on two occasions to either put a pedestrian crossing here, or insert a refuge island in the middle of the road. Hopefully this temporary crossing is a prelude to the installation of a permanent one, which will make the road much safer to negotiate here.
Technically the road signs are not Welsh Language Act compliant, doubtless dueto the fact that the contractor, according to the rear of the sign, is from Bristol.

This temporary fix have been here for over a year now. In the middle of the sidewalk theres a piece of a tree placed over a deep hole so that people wan't fall in. Only in the Philippines.
