Amtrak’s eastbound Southwest Chief spends some extra time in Lamy, New Mexico. Due to a failed locomotive, the train is having an extended stay here. Across the street at the Legal Tender Saloon, business was brisk. After a great dinner there, it was nice to walk around the train. Rough night for all the workers involved though. Amtrak and restaurant.
How disruptive, having to move away from where we normally have our meals together. A kitchen renovation has turned our daily routine upside down. On the flipside, we've discovered that the light over here in the library is somehow warmer. This temporary bokeh is a nice trade-off too.
Heavy rain over Death Valley National Park on October 18 created the temporary Lake Manly on the Badwater Salt Flats. This causes the salt flats to become resurfaced with a new layer of white rock salt as the salty water dries, so instead of the dirty, dusty surface that has been common in recent years, Badwater should look very different this year.
Iceberg in Jokulsarlon Lagoon. Moments after the shot was captured the ice boulder fell off the iceberg and broke up, so I feel very fortunate to have captured this temporary balancing arrangement.

Walking the Line on a beautiful day,
with much to see for a day of play.
The city to the left and river to the right,
a mix of industry, leisure and delight.
Looking through metal mesh one can’t help but notice,
an organized symmetrical look becomes a bonus.
Even rows of eight as far as one can see,
a pleasing look to the eye one would not disagree.
Leading to buildings in the distance,
not sure if they are coming or going without assistance.
It looks as if they are temporarily at rest,
no movement can be seen and no stress.
Give the trains time and they will be on the move,
needed in the big city and they will be on the groove. P. 26

Like the sunset, Shizandra wasn't there very long. She sometimes likes to stay in the run, but it's too cold for her to stay outside more than a few minutes.

Transient vendors (or non-stall holders) sell fresh vegetables and some fresh fruits at or near the staircase of the southernmost side of the municipal public market, whose main entrance faces East.
Most of the transient vendors shown here belong to the indigenous people, known as Aeta, many of whom live at hillside areas at remote villages in Subic, Zambales, Philippines.
It appears to be very difficult to kill off the Pacers. Despite mass withdrawals at the end of last year a number of units look likely to be pressed back into service providing additional capacity whilst social distancing measures are required on public transport.
Although many people were glad to see the back of them this seems to be a sensible decision rather than increasing risk by having overcrowded trains or leaving people standing on the platforms.
Four units worked the 3Z01 ECS from Heaton, where they had been in warm storage, to Newton Heath.
