Burkhard Niering (born 1 September 1950 in Halle (Saale); died 5 January 1974 in Berlin) was a member of the People's Police and the only known victim of the Berlin Wall from the ranks of the People's Police. He attempted to flee via the Friedrichstraße/Zimmerstraße checkpoint on the Berlin sector border and was shot dead in the process.
