Single rope technique is the way cavers move along vertical drops. Thanks to this technique, or better this group of techniques, we are able to descend and climb back on a single rope using different gear.
What we see here is a typical ascent using two ascending tools, one is permanently connected directly to the caver's harness, the other instead can be moved upwards. The fixed ascender allows the caver to block on the rope, the second one is usually connected to a loop for feet, so that the upwards pull is made using legs, clearly stronger than arms.
