SAVANNAH, Ga. – Geologists and technicians with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Savannah District operate a new TerraSonic drill rig—a piece of high-tech machinery that is the only one of its kind within USACE—June 25, 2014. The Savannah District will use the sonic drill in subsurface and geotechnical investigation projects, serving various state and federal customers throughout the nation. The new sonic drill gives Savannah's drilling team increased capability to drill through all types of soils and most rock. It causes minimal disturbance to the drilling areas; reduces investigation-derived waste; and saves time in the overall sampling process due to safety and efficiency improvements. Savannah's subsurface investigations team is a unique capability within USACE, providing expertise in groundwater sampling and analysis; embankment investigations; evaluation and design of concrete foundations; remediation planning for the cleanup of hazardous, toxic and radioactive waste; and more. At first I was frustrated with myself when I bought it at an auction. After closer inspection I realized that it is a lot older than I originally thought. It features tools from M. Klein & Sons, XceLite, Diamond pliers, Hussler rule, Simonds files, Waldon wrenches, a Millers Falls push drill, Eveready Flashlight, ASI jeweled multi-meter, and more! It's a treasure chest of never used vintage big name tools. I was upset with my self for buying it at first and now I can't seem to part with it. There are a few tools missing but it doesn't seem to matter.
