During NTEN's 2008 Non-profit Technology Conference a group of techies participated in several volunteer projects to bring technology to communities battered by the 2005 Katrina hurricane.
My group, comprised of consultants, non-profit workers, and Cisco Systems, traveled to a community center in St. Bernard Parrish to install wireless access points. St. Bernard Parrish was the hardest hit during the flood - only 6 houses were left standing out of 25,000 when the water rose 25 feet in 23 minutes.
It was an honor to be able to provide some help to this community and I'm grateful for the opportunity to talk with residents and keep the hope and momentum of positive work flowing.

For the techies, I did a selection round the performer and made a new layer via copy and put another layer below for the background. For the shadow I duplicated the top layer, used threshold adjustment to make it solid black then free transform to shear, followed by gaussian blur and opacity reduction and moved the girl's layer back to the top.

This is the geeky/techy part of Tokyo. On Sundays (busy day) the main street is closed down and people can walk on the streets. This is also the only part of Tokyo where you can bargin and if you are a gaijin and show your passport you can buy stuff tax free.

I know that this is a bit "Techy", maybe also a bit "Geeky", but I like it anyway. Since we travel alot I always take a GPS Tagger for the camera & a GPS Tracker that captures the route we traveled.
In Galicia we always try to visit somewhere we have not been before, also taking a different route to some place. After driving several thousand kilometers in Galicia the GPS kit comes in quiet usefull for planning our next trip.
The GPS Tagger for the camera fits on the flash adapter & captures the raw unprocessed GPS data in less than 0.5 seconds, the position processing is done online after. This saves battery life & means you do not have to wait for a GPS fix to take your shot. I think the batteries would last about 1-2 weeks & save 2000 GPS data sets, pretty good really. Beats the hell out of using a Tagger device that requires a hot fix to be able to tag, who has time or the batteries for a hot fix! The position is accurate to about 5-20 meters I'd say, depending on conditions.
I hate writing down where a picture was taken, & can never remember where it was anyway, now... I don't have to ;o) The software enters the GPS coordinates, the address & any POIs in the area directly into the picture meta data, RAW files as well. I have a Nikon D80 & it tags my NEF files perfectly, well it actually creats an XMP file with all the Geo data in it, as well as tagging the EXIF file.
The GPS Tracker means a bit of full can be had in G**gle Earth. The tracker also has a Blue Tooth that can also apparently hook up directly to some cameras. It has great battery life, only needs charging every few day & will hold about 4 weeks of captured data... nice!
So there you have it... I'm also a Techy & proud of it!

No hay frase más común que la que le hacen a Techy prácticamente cada día de su vida: "Pero yo te vi chiquitica"!!!!
Y realmeante es así. Techy creció frente a los ojos de todos los que la vimos acompañada de su padre cantando en público. A partir de ese momento Techy fue pública.
Para mi rostro #100 quería que fuera alguien especial y Techy lo es, más de lo que se imaginan. Quizás ni ella lo sabe, pero a Techy y a mi nos une una conexión muy especial.
Tuve la dicha y el privilegio de trabajar junto a ella en el maravilloso musical "La Bella y La Bestia", producido por mi compadre Amaury Sánchez (Pero nadie más la llame "Bestia", sólo yo puedo! jajajaja!).
El asunto es que en dicho musical, el más exitoso de la historia de los musicales del país con 33 funciones incluyendo, 13 en el Teatro Teresa Carreño de Caracas, Venezuela, Yo interpretaba el papel de "Lumiére", el noble y coqueto mayordomo que trabajaba en el castillo encantado, y desde el primer momento que ve a Bella siente un gran cariño por ella y se convierte en su aliado porque sabe que ella es la única que va a poder romper el hechizo bajo el cual todos están transformados en objetos.
Desde ese momento hubo una atadura entre nosotros que hasta el día de hoy se mantiene, un cariño eterno que es especial y muy fuerte.
Techy es una mujer increíblemente talentosa. Es cantante, actriz, comediante, estudió un tiempo en Berklee School of Music en Boston, ha sido presentadora de televisión junto a su madre, la inmensa Tania Báez y próximamente disfrutaremos de ella en la pantalla grande.
La vimos crecer a través de la pantalla. Hoy ya es una mujer increíblemente hermosa, pero también se ha convertido en esposa y madre, en la madre de Dylan!...
Ya Techy no es la chiquilla gordita que cantaba junto a su padre, Carlos Alfredo...Ya es toda una artista multifacética, pero para mi, muy en secreto entre nosotros, siempre será mi Bella, la del castillo, la que a pesar de romper el conjuro nos dejó a todos hechizados.
