Bee fans beeware. This one is looking for a MAJOR flower! The wood top grip to this cane is a techie sort of bee, robot I was thinking but quite realistic and would easily pass for a non bot! Done in a variety of golden and brown metallic shades accented with silver wings and what not. Fits very neatly into a hand. And he rides on a pillar of honey!

Made almost 100% from wood unless stated otherwise (I sometimes use tiny amounts of other things) I use paint and many finishes, often metallic, and make sure a lot of details shine through, often even the wood grain itself despite high tech themes. They maintain an often retro, sometimes even rustic look and feel to them, like an "olde worlde" toy or something (some more so than others ... I am told that surprisingly many do not even look like they are wood, but like metal or some manmade material... you can usually tell by the photos).

This top sculpture piece (the bee itself) of this creation is about 3 2/3" long by 1 1/4" wide by 1 1/2" high (remember, 2 1/2 centimeters to an inch). The rod is made of transparent acrylic plexi in a honey amber color about 1/2 inch in diameter; the cane's entire total length is about 37" tall. The bottom has a protective white plastic tip. Note that these are fashion accent canes of an artistic bent not for heavy, medical use (though I do make them quite sturdy!).

Made of Wood! Part of my "Retro Tech" line ... I build a lot of different things like ray guns, robots, rocket ships, flying saucers, other machines, telescopes and more in many different formats from full size prop replicas to miniatures, Christmas ornaments, jewelry, pendants, etc ... see my main site found through my profile which has many more photos and information. I do a lot of classic looks, but am expanding into more modern and a lot of steampunk, too!

Yes, Amanda, even the ZURB fans want to know what's happening in the front of the office.

Life in front of the camera. Here at ZURB you almost feel like your being chased by the paparazzi.

ZURB is a close-knit team of interaction designers and strategists that help companies design better (www.zurb.com).

Ever since I was terminated from my last techie gig I've been letting my jaw hair grow. And since I'm doing a kitchen renovation, it just fits in with the manly-man activities. It's not often I let my face folliate because I prefer clean-shaven, as do most people who have ever seen me with any degree of facial hair. My face breaks out a little more when it's got hair.

I figure this lets me approximate what my origins are, and so far it's telling me that my roots are in somewhere that people are lousy about growing beards. I should be so lucky as to look as good as Morten Harket in the liner notes of a-ha's East Of The Sun, West Of The Moon album... the look totally went with their cover of Crying In The Rain (though he was cleanshaven as always in the video). I'd be great if I could look as good as an Amish teenage boy should I don a flat-brimmed hat ("giveth me thy razor, Ezekiel..."). That's why I keep it clean, beside the itch and occasional infected follicle.

Mustache? Not even. The hair points down into my mouth, I'm serious.

A JeeNode SMD on the left - minus its regulator - it didn't survive the construction :-(

On the right is a JeeLabs prototype board which I had originally intended to use purely to provide the FTDI connection and have sandwiched between the JeeNode and the JeeLabs flash programmer board (which is why the male headers on the JeeNode, and the female headers on the prototype board are a bit shorter than usual (clipped and filed).

However once I'd done that I discovered the regulator on the board was dead, so was going to have to put a full size replacement on the prototype board, which I did. Whilst I was at it I decided just to wire all the ISP functionality I required onto the board too.

Alex took me out to a suprise dinner at the Noodle Shop to present me with my engagement ring. We got all dressed up and had a lovely (and tasty!) dinner, after which he subtly got down on one knee and proposed again. It was all very mellow (thank you honey!) and nice. :)

This is to show you the scale of my engagement ring against the peridot Alex got me for Christmas a few years ago. It's tiny.

Another of Hugh's boring non-art techie challenges. The challenge is to produce three drops of a different colour, equally spaced, in a vertical line. In theory this is preparation for some "art"!

This time, just for fun, add a reflection. The missing spurious green drop reflection is out of frame - I do not know why! I have cloned out some dust caused imperfections on the surface of the water.

Aiming for a limited run of 25 cars, Gemballa has reworked the Enzo's aerodynamics, adding appropriate carbon-fiber bits that give the Maranello mauler much more of a techie Teutonic flavor. Active aero components include a front spoiler lip and a rear wing that increase downforce and improve high-speed handling. Gemballa also provides additional cooling ducts for the brakes and engine compartment, with inlets on the roof and behind the doors.

The Germans have tried to make the MIG-U1 a bit more livable with such niceties as an optional electrohydraulic height adjustment function which, at the touch of a button, lifts the body by 1.8 inches — particularly useful when negotiating such urban obstacles as speed bumps. The car automatically lowers itself back to the original position at speeds above 50 mph.

Gemballa adds forged alloy wheels, shod with 265/35R19 rubber in front and 335/30R20 in the rear.

The massive Ferrari V12 has been gently massaged to produce 691 horsepower, largely the result of an upgraded ECU and a freer-flowing exhaust with quad tailpipes and pneumatic flap control.

The cockpit also gets the Gemballa touch, with redesigned seats, center console and steering wheel rendered in leather and Ultrasuede. There is also a high-end multimedia system with 950 watts of power, a DVD changer, a 7-inch touchscreen and, of course, an iPod connection.

I am a gadget geek - I can't help it - it's in my blood! This past week has been the week of the iPad. I was so happy when it arrived on Monday I could hardly stand it. I had to wait to get home from work to get it up and running, apps transferred and etc. I only have a few iPhone apps that have been updated to fit the iPad proportions, so I have lots that are still small in the middle of my iPad screen - looks totally funny!

I went with the 32g 3G + wi-fi knowing I'll use it mostly wi-fi. I figure having the ability to go mobile with it would come in handy from time to time. The timing of my purchase could not have more critical for the 3G plans. In order to get "unlimited" 3G surfing I had to sign up the day I received the device. I did not want to do that, but my had was forced by AT&T - only days later the unlimited option was gone from their website. As I understand it, those with the unlimited plans are grandfathered in as long as they continue to renew each month. The first time I drop it, I'm out. Boo!

Anyhoo, My first week with this baby has been up and down. I find myself a little frustrated with things and that's unusual for me with a new device. I think my frustrations are that I WANT this to be a baby computer when it's really a baby iPod touch... I thought it would be a great sofa surfing device, and it is, but it's kind of awkward. Do I hold it with one hand and touch with the other? Do I sit with my knees up so I can tilt the screen and use both hands? What if I put a pillow under it, will that help??? Maybe the key is with one of the jackets that protects and provides a tilt... dunno.

So far, I am most impressed with the photo albums. I think a photographer would benefit huge from this device, having a dynamic way to show a portfolio on a beautiful screen... nice! I could even see it for designers, once they have the PDF reader ready, showing clients schematics one on one.

What I don't love is web surfing. I know! I know! I can hardly believe I'm typing this, but I don't. Websites automatically load in "mobile" mode - that's not what I want - and it's very difficult to change them back to regular web pages. I am a huge user of Google Reader for my RSS feeds. That too loads mobile, and even when changed back to regular view, does not work properly. I had to purchase an app ($7) to read my Google feed. I don't like having to purchase apps for something that should work in Safari like it does on my desktop/laptop. Grr!

I am sure I will find that magic sweet spot, but it's a little slower coming that I had hoped.

Foodie magazine Bon Appétit has finished one thing really dangerous with this month’s issue. Photographers have left their cameras at their desks and used iPhones to shoot all the pictures for the 43-page aspect story of the magazine. This wasn’t Apple’s plan — Bon Appétit was functioning on...

Day 22

Behind the scenes; I thrive.

Sneak, sneak, sneak, change batteries, volume up; volume down. Slides, rolling chairs. Wires flowing everywhere, great streams of color swishing in the background.

It's all in my heart.
