This intense and surreal scene is called (After the Flood)…. Just a few days ago the sky was an intense fiery red and flamingo pink, so I grabbed my Sony Alpha camera and started clicking away at the shutter button… Bear in mind, the sky in this photo-manipulation was taken in a business park; with street lights, buildings, taken in parking lot full of techie workers cars. How I got this magical scene is as follows: That beautiful sky photo was real and wonderful, but it was taken from a parking lot, not so great. Don’t get me wrong, this was a beautiful sky, but not in a location that I would say is the best place for scenic beauty, unless you think a parking lot full of cars would be considered natural beauty. Anyway, to transform this beautiful sky into a fantasy location was all done on my quad core PC where I have Paintshop Pro and my digital studio apps installed. First I took the object remover tool and removed the parking lot lights, buildings and cars, even power lines removed. Next, I used the integrated mastering tools that are similar to Photoshop Lightroom, its part of the more current versions of Paintshop Pro, very handy! Additionally, I ran this photo through additional filters. added the water and some magical lighting effects with even more color processing applied; this made it surreal and pop more. A bit 'techie" perhaps, but I've been trying to focus stack some macro shots in camera (Panasonic GX80/85). I was using a 16mm extension tube with the 45-200mm lens set at 72mm.
This was the best, but still shows artifacts where the camera has blurred rather than chosen the sharpest part of the image. Other shots with a wider angle lens show far worse results.
(The fly was rather dead - it had been gathering dust for 5 days, much of which is visible!)

Techie notes: this one is from the first, indoor session. It's a four exposure HDR processed in Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom with split toning applied in Lightroom to give the shadows a slight tint.
I'm going to give the marble shots another rest, now, though I do have a few more that I really like and will probably post some day.

Ever since the new flickr roll-out, there has been lots of complaints about it being very slow when fetching photos, and that some users are also having difficulties editing the Cover Banner photo.
Off flickr, I recently couldn't edit my Google Blog on banking history anymore. That prompted me to ask my work place's IT help, and he suggested that I try using Goolge Chrome as the interent browser (I was using the old Internet Explorer 8.0).
Oh man! What a miracle, the photo loading is much much faster when I use Google Chrome rather than the old Internet Explorer 8, and now I can edit my Cover Banner photo, and also edit my Google blog again.
So here is a little tip, if you want to make flickr faster, try using Google Chrome. Installation takes a few minutes even for a tech-dummie like me. If I could do it, anyone can. Download it from here:

On the right is a JeeLabs prototype board which I had originally intended to use purely to provide the FTDI connection and have sandwiched between the JeeNode and the JeeLabs flash programmer board (which is why the male headers on the JeeNode, and the female headers on the prototype board are a bit shorter than usual (clipped and filed).
However once I'd done that I discovered the regulator on the board was dead, so was going to have to put a full size replacement on the prototype board, which I did. Whilst I was at it I decided just to wire all the ISP functionality I required onto the board too.

Bee fans beeware. This one is looking for a MAJOR flower! The wood top grip to this cane is a techie sort of bee, robot I was thinking but quite realistic and would easily pass for a non bot! Done in a variety of golden and brown metallic shades accented with silver wings and what not. Fits very neatly into a hand. And he rides on a pillar of honey!
Made almost 100% from wood unless stated otherwise (I sometimes use tiny amounts of other things) I use paint and many finishes, often metallic, and make sure a lot of details shine through, often even the wood grain itself despite high tech themes. They maintain an often retro, sometimes even rustic look and feel to them, like an "olde worlde" toy or something (some more so than others ... I am told that surprisingly many do not even look like they are wood, but like metal or some manmade material... you can usually tell by the photos).
This top sculpture piece (the bee itself) of this creation is about 3 2/3" long by 1 1/4" wide by 1 1/2" high (remember, 2 1/2 centimeters to an inch). The rod is made of transparent acrylic plexi in a honey amber color about 1/2 inch in diameter; the cane's entire total length is about 37" tall. The bottom has a protective white plastic tip. Note that these are fashion accent canes of an artistic bent not for heavy, medical use (though I do make them quite sturdy!).
