2018P52/Week 36: Passage of Time
I had several ideas for this topic, but this is the one that kept coming to mind. When I thought of "time", it made me think of old and new memories.
Being an old techie, the word "memories" also me think of computer memories. These memories range from 1980 to the present.
The circuit board is a 4-KByte RAM board I assembled for an old home-brew computer I built in 1980. As time went on, memory chips got smaller and smaller, and held MUCH more!

You guys probably think I'm crazy....what can i say?
I've had the same phone for 3 years (iPhone 5s) and I've been dying to upgrade to the plus for the last year.
I'm a real techie person, I like computers, phones, gadgets, etc.
The last time I bought the iPhone online, I had it on launch day so, this is something I've been really looking forward to and was then a little disappointed I wouldn't have it on launch day but hey, I can wait a few more days, no big deal.
I'm a grown up, right? =D
However, when it sits in "processing" for 3 days and then in "preparing for shipping" for 2 days, etc. and everything on the tracking seems to take DAAAAAAYS, it just feels a bit frustrating.
Now, I wake up this morning and the tracking says it finally left Korea, then went straight to Louisville and then was scanned in Hong Kong.... what?
We do need to remember there is a big time difference AND the international date line to contend with but still, this just looks like crazy sauce!
FYI...all the flights go through the UPS hub in Louisville as this is where they are "officially" imported into the US from overseas. From there, they go to whatever part of the country they are meant for.
I'm in SoCal and only 30 miles from their main hub here in Ontario, CA
I'm hoping I get it tomorrow....cross your fingers for me!
=]
**update** my phone just landed and was scanned in at Anchorage at 12:48pm PST ....hopefully, i really will have it tomorrow!

Wouldn't life be amazingly fun (if not a little scarey) if we all possed an Eye Phone. It works by the Eye phone performing a retina scan to ensure it's being operated by the correct owner with safe level of permission's. The apps that can be loaded onto the Eye Phone are things like 'The future Scope', 'Liar detector', 'X-Ray vision (additional usage charge), 'Intelligence testing' etc, etc.......
I know which app I would choose!!!

Mystery solved. (well, sort of)
I have always wondered why the blue and violet flowers shot at dusk looked so different in the camera than in reality. Of course, when I ran into a Nikon rep in the garden it was one of the first questions I asked. I would love to share this information with you...but, unfortunately, I didn't understand a word he said. Back to square one....
BTW...let me introduce you to my favourite colour....blue-violet. Here, the complementary of yellow ochre is setting it off nicely. If I could gaze all day at these colours, I would be the happiest person alive.... and I would be drooling ....(I know, I am prone to exaggeration)

....been rather overwhelmed with what's going on here and to add to the bundle, I decided to go more techie...increased internet speed with a different company and bought my first iPad....Yes! I definitely NEEDED it......the only problem is I've been trying to combine older technology (my computer) with newer....and I'm finding they don't interface well.....lots of time spent on trouble shooting problems, you know how that is...still having trouble with email showing my incoming mails.
I'm trying my best....wishing you a wonderful third week in July flickr friends.....Pat xo

since i have played in Fence Friday! Been throwing myself headlong into work....real work, when you consider how abysmal i am at the techie stuff i need to know to make this shoot on Sunday run smoothly and successfully. i have been setting up the computer for all the shots, into folders by town....and i did it! (THAT was one bright genius moment left over from earlier in the week!) Some of the other stuff had me biting my tongue so as not to say bad words!
At this point i probably won't breathe until it is over. 10 towns, 42 Cheerleading squads....let's see....that is how many tons of female hormones i will be capturing in action and portraits?? I am thinking an extra dose of humor will be in order that morning along with my cuppa. Set-up is anywhere between 6am and 7:30 am....thankfully it is 5 minutes from my house. (6:00am on a Sunday should be illegal!)
Today i had a rough morning, but regrouped and got my head to a better place. Began the process of printing all the info i need for the parents of the cheerleaders....like how to contact me for the photos of their kids! Once this is behind me (hopefully by Wed. or Thursday at the latest) i can begin to concentrate on the things i need to finish for the week long boutique i host here at the house. I sure hope all the other artists are more prepared than i am. The saving grace being that i work well under pressure. I saw some samples of things that will be arriving and i am pretty excited! This is where i start my Christmas shopping ... nothing better than handcrafted pretty things made with love! Will at some point show you what i am up to....most likely when i start breathing again!
Happy Fence Friday, autumn style! (this is an archive shot....the fences are down, getting ready for new paint. Since Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn do not live here, they are being sprayed!)
*****PLEASE....prayers for my sweet sister-friend and fellow flickr-ite, and her daughter. Her daughter was just diagnosed with breast cancer....please keep her in your thoughts and prayers that she may join the rank of survivors, proudly saying "I Beat the Beast". Thank you (HUG))
Folks have usually referred to Google, Facebook and Twitter as scenarios where foreign tech firms are blocked in China. In truth, though Facebook and Twitter ended up indeed blocked, Google selected to withdraw since they did not want to comply with Chinese censorship restrictions.

The notion of artificial intelligence has been about for a extensive time.
We’re all familiar with HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey, C-3PO from Star Wars and, much more recently, Samantha from Her. In composed fiction, AI characters demonstrate up in tales from writers like Philip K. D...

I find over the years my preferences can change. I used to do a lot of floral landscapes but lost interest as the Southern California wildflower season has become a bit of a bust. Way back, I shot to get the whole field in focus, and accumulated some of the Canon tilt-shift lenses for that purpose. As time went on, I began to shoot with more of a selective focus, shallow DoF approach which suited my wildlife interests. Then along came focus-stacking and a renewed interest in landscapes. Focus-stacking works great IF the subject (big or small) doesn't move. That means flowers and tree branches can't sway, ocean waves are out of the question. (Don't laugh - I recently tried a couple of seascapes, expecting FS probably wouldn't work and it didn't.) So I'm glad I still have my T/S lenses, even if I forget to use them on occasion. This image was made in 2015 with the T/S 45mm, F8, at 1/250th. What's particularly cool with both approaches (focus stacking and T/S) is that I can use a mid-range F-stop and thus not sacrifice speed or sharpness by going to high F-numbers to maximize depth of field. (A little techie? Yeh, I taught photography classes for a few years - sometimes I just can't help myself.)
