The Rosette is an emission nebula in the constellation Monoceros some 5,000 light years away.
It's thought to be responsible for the birth of some 2,500 stars. A group of which can be seen near the centre, this is the open star cluster NGC 2244 estimated to be about 4,000,000 years old.

This still life is dedicated to all of my geek friends. Are you a geek? Take my little quiz:
1. Do you have a Treo?
2. Did you ever start an Internet company?
3. Do you have a cool brightly-colored backpack?
4. Do you like clothing made of high-tech fabrics?
5. Do you Twitter?
6. Do you blog?
7. Do you know what a wiki is?
8. Do you have a hipster PDA?
9. Do you have anything with an Apple sticker on it?
10: Do you know what SXSW stands for?
0 out of 10: You're not a geek. Wait, hold on a sec. You ARE a geek, or else you wouldn't be on Flickr would you? Actually, how could you score zero if you are a Flickrer? You must be a liar.
1-5 out of 10: You're a geek but your neighbors may not know -- you hide it well.
6-8: Definitley a "core geek" -- deeply geeky
9 or 10: You are what we call a "bleeding edge geek" -- a geek that other geeks will follow, wherever you might lead. With this great power comes great responsibility.
Me, I scored a 9 out of 10 (No Apple sticker). Yes, I blog!

I have this sinking feeling...
If you're wondering, this is not lens distortion neither is it a case of perspective leading into the horizon. It's been designed as though it's going into the sea. Any way you look it, it has leading lines into the horizon and that's what make this unique. This is the Marina Bay Cruise Centre. An amazing piece of architecture which literally fools your eye. I love this building even when it was under construction and I've waited until now to take a photo of it. This was pretty early in the morning around 7am. I left the house at 6am and had to walk through a muddy field to get it from this angle (it was raining the night before). The sun's rising to the left and as you can imagine was very bright. Lucky for me, some clouds covered the sun just enough time for me to get movement in the clouds as well as this shot.

It rained during the Memorial Day Service at Miller Park in Bloomington but it did not put a damper on the day, or it's color. There was a lot of red, white, and blue, even on the umbrellas. These two ladies were sitting just in front of me and I thought this made such a neat little scene.
The lighter side of techie things:
Anyone that knows me well, knows I love to shoot in the rain. Rain means clouds and clouds are like giant soft boxes that spread the light of the sun. It also deepens the hues of every color with which it comes in contact. Beyond that, it ads a sense of calm and peace, which I found quite fitting for this Memorial Day ceremony.
In case you missed the bugler ...
The heavy side of techie things:
ISO 400 (It was dark and kinda rainy)
1/250th
f/4.5
130mm
1 giant soft box for the sun
2 colorfully dressed ladies (From the American Legion Ladies Aid I think)
1 colorfully decorated umbrella
1 simple white glove

More commonly known as The Dumbell Nebula. Sometimes as the Apple core or egg timer as well.
M27 is a planetary nebula over 1,200 light years away in the constellation of Vulpecula. Discovered by Charles Messier in 1764 it's thought to be the first planetary nebula discovered.
They were given the title planetary nebulae by William Herschel, who thought that these kind of objects looked small and round like a planet.

An open star cluster also called the Foxhead cluster, though like most of these names, I don't see it. Quite a number of red giant stars hide in this cluster.

if this was an accident ??? or maybe a sort of vintage Bonnie and Clyde situation!???
i will leave this for you to ponder as i try to fix internet connection issues at my house this evening.....i am writing this from the Library where i had a photo shoot tonight, and had to submit my things for publication to the paper tonight for morning. i have spent about 2.5 hours on the phone with tech support in the past 2 days.....it seems my modem has changed my IP address to something i can’t access on any computer in my house (there are 4!!!!) bear with me...in the immortal words of AH-NOLD," I’ll Be Bock!!!!” just probably a bit loonier than normal after all this techie stuff!!! :)

Amazing for me , a "non-techie," to see and enjoy what is now possible with a mere touch of a handheld screen. Easy access to Flickr is the main reason for me having this new toy. I'm now on a huge learning curve and loving every minute of it :-)
I took this on summer vacation 2011 to the Great Smoky Mountain National park.
I've been processing stuff this week for fun and I really like this one from our trip there. It was early and we were out looking for bears, while we didn't see a bear, we did see an incredible sunrise.
Techie details:
Canon 40D
Tamron 28-75 2.8 lens
This one is my most elaborated light painting so far, made joining three captures. One to expose the screens, another for my arms, and another to create the laser net over the whole desk. I also added two Sony MiniDiscs to the composition to commemorate the end of its production, which Sony announced this week.
The laser net was made with what I call "Wireframing tool", a tool I built with two RC servos, the laser and a microcontroller,
I'll probably write a little about that in my blog soon.
EDIT: I finally posted a little more information and a video about the tool here: elgaratge.com/?p=202
Thanks for viewing!
Engagement session of New York photographer Ryan Brenizer and fiance' Andrea.
Ryan is an awesome photographer known on flickr as Carpe icthus *
when you have the task of photographing a photographer, a lot is on the line....are they critiquing you every second? Will they like it? .....I think I did OK, what do you think?
*Lens Credit*
Thanks for letting me use your len Ryan. I had my guys feeding me gear as I needed it. I asked for my short lens (wanting my 17-55) and one of the guys shoved a short lens at me.. A few minutes later I realized it was Ryan's new 24-70mm f.2.8 which he said I try out... it's funny how things go when you're in your grove just working
*Camera Credit*
I swear, I do have my own gear, but I borrowed the new Nikon D300 from Ken a Phoenix Photographer friend. He told me that my wife didn't want me to use his camera. (You can guess why right?)

So you might have heard of LDD's massive (and ongoing) kerfuffle, in which the only color in Extended Mode's palette is red. In the process of finding a workaround, I discovered a file by Aanchir, Eurobrick's Master of Obscure Colors. He did some hard techie stuff and found like 60 extra colors that LDD supports but doesn't actually list anywhere in any mode. His list is arranged... I dunno how his list is arranged, you can see it here. I basically just took his colors and smushed them all onto stacks of 2x4 bricks, in groups of "all the blue colors" or "all the metallic colors". My version's HERE. All you have to do is add these stacks to your templates, add the right color stack to your WIP build, and then use the color picker tool to get the right color on the brush. (If I forget and remove this from Dropbox in a month or two and you want the file, please FM me and I'll get it to you ASAP.)
No Wolfie, this doesn't do anything for the decals ;^)
Also known as The Croc's Eye. It wears the tag of NGC4736 in the New General Catalogue.

The central region of the galaxy is brighter than the outer due to intense active star formation, giving it the name a 'Starburst Ring'.
