RSBAA Ploughing Match, this is a shortened version of an editorial film taken on 2nd October 2019 at a farm in Chesham.
Techie stuff :- Stills are a combination of images from Gary Scorgie and a lesser amount from myself { He has got some excellent captures using a Nikon Z6} the video was shot in 4K and downsized to HD, edits done in LightRoom and Photoshop, film edits created using Apple Keynote for start transitions and then main film created in iMovie.
Please note the video takes a few seconds to load and get going!!

OH!! GO ME!!!!!! I DID it! I used CS5 and did not blow up my computer....or lose everything on it! I am SO proud of me.....yes, inept, non techie, can’t find my way out of a paper bag, blond me! (OK...so my hair is darker than it was, blond is really a state of mind!!) Hmmm, maybe it is because i put a little red in it....redheads are pretty smart i hear!!
OK....sooooo, i made my own pink gradient, and applied it. then i deedled around with the opacity and such....then i added another layer of black to white gradient and deedled with that and then i added a text layer and i made the text have a sort of faint reflection behind the words of the same words..........Damn!! i am SO tickled that i was able to navigate CS5 without blowing my head off!!!
Pardon me while i do a little “I am so proud of me dance" for a teensy minute!!!
*****************************************dancing dancing dancing************************************
leg kick*****************heel click**********************************************dancing**************
OK...i am back...you did not miss much in the dance department....i am really bad at that too! (but better than singing!)
I am in a much better frame of mind than i was with all the raindrop tears last night. I went to my "inside me" place... i pondered and i prayed. I got about 3 hours sleep, so i was anticipating a long and rather crummy monday since i had to go in at 9:00 and stay all day with the eels and the vicious beasty child. It actually went really well with the little fellow i was in charge of for the morning....the beasty child had an issue and tried to bolt, but i managed to get between her and the door so she was stuck in the classroom! 4 more days and counting......the ocean and beach never looked so much like Paradise as it does right now. OK...i lied...........it ALWAYS looks like paradise to me!!
Have a fantabulous Tuesday....................and YAY ME!!!!!! CS5 here i come!! i am smarter than i thought.............maybe!!! What’s different in CS6, Larry?? do i NEED the upgrade!???

I decided that today i would practice using textures....something that i have a love hate relationship with! it usually takes me a good long time to find a pairing that i like, and most of the time, i ditch what i have tried and go with a straight up photo out of frustration. Thanks to Par'ee at www.flickr.com/people/8078381@N03/ i was actually successful! She has a gorgeous array of textures to practice with, and her photos are mesmerizing.....much more so than this simple rendering offered here! SO, thank you, Par'ee! your work is outstanding!
the artsy-techie stuff sometimes takes me a few trial and errors to get right, but i will figure it out....you can count on two things with me...i am persistent and relentless when it comes to trying to learn!
Hope this eases you into your Friday....stay cool and keep smiling...it keeps others wondering!
PS i do not watch the show....just the first title that came to mind. i rarely watch tv...prefer books!
I see that, since I've been away, Flickr has continued with it's transformations. From the healthcare reform site to Flickr...what's wrong with all of our techie-nerds? They don't seem to be up to the job!!!!

PERHAPS THE BEST SUMMARY I heard in relation to the impact of Steve Jobs came from a Canadian journalist who summed up Steve Jobs life with the techie term, 'disruptive innovation'.
Through that 'disruption' Steve changed the world for the better.
iTunes, the iPod, the iPhone, the iPad, the iMac, etc ~
I certainly don't do Windoze…
THAT SAID, all was not well with the much-ballyhooed man who was synonymous with Apple Inc.
In the end our habits own us, and we shouldn't be too surprised that Steve's habit of inter-personal severity owned him, and the resentful petulant man who was forever upset with underlings that failed to impress, but more so upset by being put up for adoption as a baby, later refused every opportunity for amends to be made by the once offending, now, contrite.
Through the years, Steve nursed his rage against his biological father.
Steve did forgive his birth mother for the great heave-ho, and later acknowledged a daughter he too initially rejected—but forgiving an aging father with outstretched arms proved to be too much, too overwhelming for the fastidious nerd who changed the world. And who—eventually learned to take regular showers.
Still, I guess being surrounded by paid accolades who bow to your every whim at 1 Cupertino Loop can set one up with a false dichotomy, whereby your petty personal viewpoint is always right, and the whole rest of the world is terribly wrong.
Except, Steve's father, John Jandali, wasn't another computer or software brand, he was, well—his father.
The man who gave Steve life.
Yeah, that guy.
Whatever false, morally relative construct Steve used—throughout the long years—to shield himself emotionally from his father, will, happily, never replace that seemingly innocuous and obvious command to honour one's father and mother. And with that eternal directive, came the general, temporal promise, of a long life.
Or could it be, as it is in most cases where father-son, father-daughter estrangement occurs, the divorced/separated/offended mother fuels the on-going separation and hostility of her offspring—against their biological father. I do not mean Clara Jobs here. I mean Joanne Carole Schieble, Steve's biological mom.
Or was it a tandem thing? Mother and daughter (Mona Simpson) against John Jandali? This is also often the case.
Steve, and his biological sister Mona (the other offspring of John and Joanne) became best friends after having not known each other until their late 20s. Such can be the fall-out from adoption, and disappearing into the night. After their brother-sister relationship solidified, Mona encouraged Steve to reach out to their mother, now Joanne Schieble Simpson, and Steve later invited Joanne to some Apple events. Mona paved the way for Steve to reconcile with mom, Joanne. However, Joanne had likely so sabotaged Mona and John's continued relationship, from the earliest of times, that the foundation had already been laid for Steve to later follow suit. And so, he too, joined with Mona in rejecting father John.
Good one, Joanne. Good one, Mona.
Divorced fathers this is likely the most famous example you will ever have, of the effects of the negative power-play, your former spouse can exert over your mutual offspring.
If its a stormy break, she'll turn the kids against you. Forever.
It's her one final way to hurt you.
Hurt, unstable mothers, are working behind the scenes, sabotaging your chances to keep an ongoing relationship with your son or daughter. The provincial family courts in Ontario, Canada are quite wise to the potential for this extended Mommie-dearist tactic and strongly encourage mediation.
Courts elsewhere—not so much~
Steve Jobs: Incredible visionary! Spectacular inventor!
Good son?
Lousy son.
Well, two out of three, ain't bad.
Closing off a homily one Sunday at Mass, I remember one of our parish priests noting, that whatever disasters befall us—short of death—we never did have the right to expect perfect parents.
But apparently, Steve did.
Good-bye, Steve.
Thanks for the presents.
Your dad never had your presence, but he has one of your iPads. And he lined up like everyone else to get one.
Roll that image through the theatre of your mind, folks.
The closest John Jandali (Steve Job's father) was able to get to his son—was to buy one of his son's products—from one of said son's stores.
ABSOLUTELY disgusting. Monumentally saddening.
While Steve Jobs, being a Buddhist, never had access to the treasure trove of Christian admonishment to act otherwise, still the moral law is written on the hearts of all men—even those outside of the influence of Christian revelation.
Still, Jobs loved the Beatles, and he should have, at least, listened to them.
"For well you know that it's a fool who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder"
(Hey Jude)
How many letters and postcards from father John Jandali (through the years), went unanswered, Steve?
I hope someone in the Jobs or Simpson family will FINALLY take the high road and reach out to John Jandali, Steve's estranged (not-by-choice) father in these, his twilight years.
But since we're dealing with Buddhists and pagans here—don't hold your breath.
You can't reason with pagans.
The world may praise Steve Jobs all they want. And he certainly deserves their praise—for the amazing Apple products that were brought to fruition under his leadership—for those eager, and consuming masses.
But, and there is always a but… Steve's final denial of his father, even from his deathbed, certainly gives me, great pause~

Ooo look at me getting all techie :)
For absolutely yonks I have wanted to create an image with a light-leak. According to Wiki:
"A light leak is a hole or gap in the body of a camera where light is able to "leak" into the normally light-tight chamber, exposing the film or sensor with extra light. This light is diffuse, although parts within the camera may cast shadows or reflect it in a particular way. For most purposes this is considered a problem. Within the lomography movement it is seen as a positive effect, giving photos character.
One frequent source of light leaks in 35 mm cameras is around the film door due to degrading foam. Replacing the foam is a simple matter. Medium format system cameras or large format cameras may have leaks between their various interchangeable parts or in old leather bellows. Electrical tape is often used to repair light leaks in these cases."
So, I tried a couple of websites to get the gist of how to do it. Check over the image for links. Currently I am a whole lot more Lightroom girl than I am Photoshop girl, so I did mine in LR.
I'm pleased with the result- I also remembered something I saw Rosie Hardy say on a tutorial she posted a while ago that she hated green in a picture and opted more for brown/warmer spectrum shades. So, whilst I don't hate green (though Peas are green) I tried to give a more washed out, vintage look to the image reminiscent of film.
This was on Sunday at Shakerley Mere. Despite dogs not being allowed in the water, Reuben still chased the geese- it was pretty funny.
What wasn't funny is the amount of bites I got on my legs (I do have tights on too!) so bad I had an allergic reaction!! Boo :(
Here is a song that fits the mood that I can't get enough of at the moment.

It's alive, and it's got a name!
Meet Flash'ard :-)
There is some logic to the name, I doubt I need to explain the first part, but the "Ard"? Well it's based on Arduino. In this case it's a wonderful little board called a Jeenode(V4), which comes complete with the wireless module I need to make a remote trigger.
Anyway, it works, and it's now providing lighting for it's own photographs. Currently max sync speed is 1/160th, but I'm working on getting that up higher.
The board has two optoislator triacs (the little white chips with 6 pins each) which keeps the delicate 3.3 volt circuit safe from the 300 volt trigger circuit on the Vivitar 283. It has two isolators because it is connected into two circuits on the flash. One that fires it (which is what a hotshoe trigger fires) and one that stops it (called the quench). Controlling the timing between sending the "Fire" and the "Quench" allows you to regulate the power of the flash. I believe all flashes work like this. When you drop the power you don't turn down the brightness, you're reducing the duration of the flash. (Whether you can get to the quench circuit or not is another issue entirely though!).
A full power 1/1 flash is about 1300us (micro seconds, there's a million of them to a second), a 1/32 is about 30us.

Update
Sync speed now up to 1/320th, the limit of my D300. This was achieved by increasing the baudrate of the wireless data communications, so has also reduced the range. I am currently testing to see how this will impact the functionality. If it does impact it then I can slow it down a few steps before it come down to the level it was at when 1/160th was the limit.

The view from a crofters cottage we stayed in. Rubbish isn't it.
Boring techie details
Comprises 12 shots using Sigma 10-20mm. Each raw file was processed with Photomatix as a single file HDR, then stitched in photoshop. Having played with single file HDR a few times now I'm very pleased with the results. I originally shot three exposures for each section of the panorama but it was too breezy and the ghosting artifacts in the grass made a mess of it all. Still this seems to work quite nicely.

Aiming for a limited run of 25 cars, Gemballa has reworked the Enzo's aerodynamics, adding appropriate carbon-fiber bits that give the Maranello mauler much more of a techie Teutonic flavor. Active aero components include a front spoiler lip and a rear wing that increase downforce and improve high-speed handling. Gemballa also provides additional cooling ducts for the brakes and engine compartment, with inlets on the roof and behind the doors.
The Germans have tried to make the MIG-U1 a bit more livable with such niceties as an optional electrohydraulic height adjustment function which, at the touch of a button, lifts the body by 1.8 inches — particularly useful when negotiating such urban obstacles as speed bumps. The car automatically lowers itself back to the original position at speeds above 50 mph.
Gemballa adds forged alloy wheels, shod with 265/35R19 rubber in front and 335/30R20 in the rear.
The massive Ferrari V12 has been gently massaged to produce 691 horsepower, largely the result of an upgraded ECU and a freer-flowing exhaust with quad tailpipes and pneumatic flap control.
The cockpit also gets the Gemballa touch, with redesigned seats, center console and steering wheel rendered in leather and Ultrasuede. There is also a high-end multimedia system with 950 watts of power, a DVD changer, a 7-inch touchscreen and, of course, an iPod connection.

It was a beautiful spring day which inspired me to stroll through Toronto’s multi-ethnic Kensington Market area which usually provides fascinating strangers. Today was no exception. I saw him carefully setting out folded shirts on a table on the sidewalk and he had a friendly face. I paused to ask what his business was all about and he explained he sells vintage clothing and was just setting up “shop.” One thing led to another and soon I was inviting him to participate in my project if it wouldn’t interfere with business and he was happy to participate. Meet Tristan.
I took a few photos from two different angles, trying to use the shade cast by the shop as shelter from a strong sun. I wanted to get the colorful shirts in a photo that showed a bit more of the scene, but my main interest was, as is usual, a closer portrait of this friendly young man. Photos taken, we chatted while, keeping an eye on his wares.
Tristan is 20 and was born and raised in the Toronto area. His parents are from Dominica and Jamaica – the Islands. He and a friend run the business and do online sales (www.etsy.com/shop/MajorDivision) as well as selling on the street. He knows the man who owns the property and the owner kindly agreed to a reasonable rent for setting up his table to sell. When I asked Tristan what he thought was important in life he said “helping others.” I commented that he had just helped me and we both nodded. When I asked him to describe himself he said “Well, I’m entrepreneurial and I work hard. I’m a bit of a techie and spend a lot of time on the computer. I buy up broken cell phones on the internet, open them up, repair them, and resell for a profit.” Enterprising indeed. His message? “Don’t get too caught up in small problems. Keep moving forward.” As an afterthought, I asked him about the tattoos on his arms. One read “Live As If You’ll Die Today” and the other read “Dream As If You’ll Live Forever.” “Those will tell you a lot about me” he said with a smile.
I sensed a kindness in Tristan that was delightful. He would have stood and chatted longer but I knew he was setting up to do some business and he already had a customer or two pause to check out the shirts. He was fascinated that my small camera could take such clear photos and said he was looking forward to getting copies. As we parted he wished me much luck with my project and said he hoped I would enjoy the rest of the day. His personality was as warm as the weather.
Thank you Tristan for taking a few minutes to meet and for participating in The Human Family Group on Flickr. I hope you did some business. The nice weather seems to have brought people out onto the streets in Toronto.
This is my 263rd submission to The Human Family Group on Flickr.

This is an exciting year for wireless in the US! Now that analog television broadcasting is shutting down completely on February 17th, 2009, there's going to be a chunk of frequency freed up for wireless bandwidth - especially for fast 3G cellphone service!!! OHMYGOD I JUST CAN't WAIT!
How is this going to happen? In preparation for the freed up space in 2009 when analog television will die, the FCC is auctioning this 700mhz spectrum, a highly valued space for services like 3G, off to the highest bidders on January 24th, 2008. This means we as consumers will finally have more choices in cell phone services and faster data download times.
However exciting this is, I am critical of how this process is being carried out. Cutting through all the techie hoopla, there are some critical trends to point in how the government is regulating spectrum space and communication.
This latest auction treats spectrum space as private goods. In its sole federal jurisdiction of radio-magnetic spectrum, spectrum space is handled as private property by the FCC, not public property or public property for mixed purposes—private and public. So there is nothing here that parallels the movement in cable television that created the space and funding for "public access." Herein lies one of the most ignored, yet important aspects of the " information age." If the very medium in which all of Internet communications will travel through will be entirely dominated by corporations with no socially minded oversight by the government, there will are less chances for social correctives to ensure equal and fair access to this medium. Corporations can charge what they deem as the market rate for broadband access.
In essence, we are moving away from the precedence of Universal Access that was in place for landline telephones (as established by the Communications Act of 1934 and as was retroactively interpreted as the basis of UA policy).
Spectrum inequality leads to Internet access inequality. Compared to the rest of the world, the US is currently in 24th place in broadband penetration, with only 53% of households connected (Point Topic 2007). THIS IS HORRIBLE!!! South Korea is in 1st place! So trends in the telecommunication regulation, like this upcoming auction signals to dwindling of the social right to communication infrastructures.
I am very uncomfortable with this trend! Already within the last 10 years, neo-liberal market policies have radically restructured social institutions. As a result, social goods are increasingly redefined as market goods that are available based on an individualistic cost-benefit analysis, instead of on a collective, common goods rationale. This is scary! As a result, there is a thinning of social citizenship, in what Fraser and Gordon argue that long-standing social rights become stigmatized as “hand-outs” and incumbent upon the individual or nuclear family to fulfill the social need.
So even though I am SUPER EXCITED to finally be on a 3G network, I keep in mind that there are large groups of people who are excluded from this for various reasons, from digital literacy or to companies not even offering this in their area or just being priced out.
This doesn't stop me from getting SUPER EXCITED about my next cellphone!!! ANy suggestions? and GUESS WHAT what - I think I will be ready to switch from Verizon to AT&T! I am mentally preparing for this now. I am also looking forward to seeing how Sprint and Nextel customers like WiMaxx. Although I would love to be on WIMAXX because it's faster than 3G, it won't be available in enough areas. In San Diego, I don't even have cell signal from AT&T or Verizon inside my house! So I am sure WiMaxx will not have much penetration beyond concentrated urban areas. Also, everyone is keeping an eye on Google, who's trying to enter the cellphone market with their newly developed open software mobile phone application.
HERE ARE MY 2008 WIRELESS GOALS:
1.) get rid of my treo and find another phone that will make me happy. I will have to give up on the touchscreen where I can draw circles around titillations or titicacas - and I think I will be ready for this. I long suppressed the knowledge that treos are one of the highest emitters of radiation. It's time for me to face up to it.
2.) Start researching my potential switchover to AT&T.
3.) I need to be more understanding of the screwed up wireless infratructure in the US. We are such a backward wireless country! Children in Japan text better than me.
4.) stop threatening to move to Japan, South Korea or the Netherlands just for a happier wireless world.
5.) Be more involved in raising awareness about spectrum equality and internet access as a social right.
6.) Don't throw away my used wireless phones - research where to donate them.
7.) If I switch to At&T, start a strategic campaign to convince all my friends to switch themselves and their entire families over to AT&T.
8.) Stop discriminating and judging people based on their wireless carrier or cell phone.
9.) Be more accepting of friends and colleauges who don't text message. Just because people don't SMS does't mean that they aren't wonderful people with fulfilling lives.
10.) Start calling friends who are not with the same company as me. Sorry AT&T friends, I have not been a good wireless friend because I am with Verizon. But that may all change!
11.) stay hopeful that in my lifetime that my body can become one big mobile device with a simple operation underneath my arm. My dream is for my body to become one with the Internet. Please, one more sheet of acid will do.
12.) Do a better job of staying up to date with wireless developments in China.
