'Beyond Engagement' was the theme of the 2016 Colloquium on Teaching and Learning Innovation. The event at Stetson University in April brought together educators for a daylong exchange of ideas: www.stetson.edu/today/2016/04/engaging-minds-while-teachi...

While in Saigon I discovered a tour operator that offered free tours of nearby sights in exchange for volunteering two hours of time in a conversational English class with local school children. The experience was humbling and not unlike trying to perform stand-up comedy in front of a completely uninterested audience. Suffice to say I developed a newfound respect for teachers who do this full-time.

met this girl at the playing, SB asked her to teach her how to use this crane thingy, and she obliged.

1- How was the local ABV Coordinator/staff and the support provided in-country?

Maria Elena was amazing! She had all the right information and gave the most helpful tips. She gave me a quick tour of the city on the first day, which was nice. She also made sure that I was comfortable and that I had everything that I needed. She gave me her 100% support, and I really appreciated that.

A bit of help for the girls. They used stones from the floor to count - or, in the case of the girl closest to camera, their fingers.

My wee organiser thingy buzzed at 10:48 this morning to remind me that I'd been teaching for exactly 33.33 years. A third of a century. In the same school. Ironically, I was looking after a history class for an absent colleague at the time. History! I've lived through most of it.
