Day 44 - Teaching

photolynch.com/365/?p=259

Teaching is always something I have enjoyed doing. When I was doing Music full time, I used to take on students (usually from Middle School age) and teach them how to play their respected instruments of choice. It was a lot of fun and rewarding. Now that I am doing photography, I enjoy teaching people how to understand and take photographs.

When my friend Jackie came to me last week asking about photography, I couldn’t resist offering to help her out beyond the simple “What camera should I buy?” advice. She is one of those super creative people who has done vocal performance, cosmetology, painting, writing, drawing, and now is a Fashion Designer. She wants to take up photography so she can create her own vision with her designs. It’s just one of the many facets of Jackie. So I had her come over today and began teaching her photography from the beginning. It was a lot of fun and good for me having to describe how each thing works. You really realize how much you know or don’t know about something when you start teaching it. I also showed her my lighting kit and how to set everything up. She is hopefully going to be assisting me on upcoming shoots so she can learn as much as possible.

Interestingly enough, this photograph for today was when we were outside going over one of the lights and C-Stands. It wasn’t adding much to the exposure, but what I did learn is that she is very shy and doesn’t like being in front of cameras. In almost every frame I took, she would not look into the camera. It was as if the camera was going to steal part of her soul (haha). This is actually not the first time I have heard this from people who want to be photographers, or are already. Some people are just better behind the lens than in front.

Enjoy

Online Quran teaching is getting common. So, learning the Quran online is an easy way to stay connected to the Book of Allah.

“Read in the name of your Lord, who has created (all that exists), created man from a clot. Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous.”

See, who is calling you towards the light of guidance? Allah, the most Generous! And where is the light? The Quran is the light of the ones lost in darkness. How often do we all feel lost? We all keep ignoring our inner voice. Our soul demands to remember the one who made it.

Most of us keep wandering for peace despite having everything.

Who is going to fill the void? Where is the ultimate solution to all our vows? Allah answers this in the Quran.

In June 2018, The Gardens at Texas A&M University celebrated the completion of its first phase: The Leach Teaching Gardens. These seven acres serve as an outdoor classroom where faculty and staff can teach students and the public about food production, landscape beauty, and the natural environment. The Gardens as a whole is meant to be a peaceful sanctuary on campus, a place where everyone at Texas A&M and in our community can relax, enjoy nature, and learn

The Light Tree Celebrations is a festival held in honour of a strange and magnificent tree that once grew on the Sheffield Canal. Maybe the existence of the tree is just a rumour, or the fever dream of an old boat-builder, or maybe it was really there. Whatever the truth is, we’re celebrating. Prepare to be pleasantly dazzled.

This celebration event marks the end of a three year project, led by The Bare Project and commissioned by the Canal and River Trust. The Bare Project have led creative arts, food, and permaculture activities, working with communities in Darnall, Attercliffe, Tinsley and the Wicker – neighbourhoods which sit alongside the Sheffield-Tinsley canal. The national project is called Into The Hinterlands, a national arts programme delivered by the Canal and River Trust in collaboration with regional partners, promoting wellbeing and connecting communities, with participatory events along three remote rural, urban and suburban waterways: Pontymoile, Sheffield and Enfield & Tottenham.

This project has also received support from The Talbot Trusts, the Darnall Area Trust Fund and Arts Council England.

The kids how to paint with light while we were waiting for the fireworks to begin! They found this fascinating! :) Ok, so my son found this fascinating, my daughter did it once and said I'm done and then watched her brother do it! hehehehehe

A small, brief exhibition of work done by my bookarts students this term. The theme was music, and they spent the first 6 weeks of term learning letterpress and then the next few weeks playing with stuff they'd printed.

These girls are not only my sisters, but are my best friends for life. They have been there for me through both my joys and my disappointments. They are the first to be there and laugh with me, but are also a shoulder to cry on. I am so lucky to have met such wonderful girls.
