A 43"x18" play table converted to play Legends of Chima on. Frame was reclaimed from an old sand/water table that a preschool was throwing away. Play surface was made with 1/2" MDF and covered with textured wallpaper and painted in various washes and dry brushing layers. The rocks are made from foam and covered in drywall...compound (?) to make them withstand speedorz crashing into them. Sides were then covered in sand and woodland scenics flocking. Plants were made from chopped up aquarium plants I snagged on the cheap from petsmart.

Nothing fancy on here. The John Lennon biography is a bit of a brick. Great read though. He's one of my heroes. It's taken me two years of reading it on-and-off to get through it, but I'm finally nearly there. Being an English teacher doesn't allow you much reading for pleasure, let alone reading massive doorstop books.

The photo is of my boyfriend of four years.

pool party! i did not go in today but i was applauded for coming. la la la i don't like my body so summer and i aren't the best of friends. they were all so cute.

kristin - i love that you're my friend every day, not just when it's convenient. you always want to see me. you never let me down. and i think that's why we get along so well. we share insecurities and fears, so i think as individuals at our worst we bring out the best in each other. i love you.

ryan - i love that you make me laugh. i have a terrible (turrible ;) ) memory, but more than anything in my life i will never forget a moment when i was happy. i love that you want to include me, that you take me for who i am and let me be myself and love me for it; you're one of the only guys in this world who is nice to me. i love you .

mia - i love how proud you get that i am your dance teacher AND your friend. i love how excited you get in class over the smallest things. i love how hard you are willing to try to get things right. i love how much you love your brothers and want to take care of them. i love that you're my little dolly and will let me touch your feet to point your toes, grab your legs to turn them out and manipulate your crazy wormy body to make it correct. =]

aidan - i love that you finally let me hang out with you. i knew you were shy but it always bummed me out that we never high-fived or hugged. you'll do dance moves if i ask you, you'll talk to me without being shy, and you're just the coolest for making my day. i love your voice more than anything in the world. and your skinny body, my favourite. =]

talan - you're my #1. you're not developed enough to have a say in whether you like me or not, therefore i take advantage of the fact that you'll let me love on you and never say no. i miss your wrinkles but i love your buddha belly. you never cease to amaze me with your freakish rate of development. i love you so much and you have made my life so happy. you'll never know how full my heart is thanks to you.

but mostly to you as a family. you all make me more welcome than i could ever say. and i just love that you give me hope that there are more good people in this world that i have yet to meet. you've changed my life indefinitely, i could never find the right words to thank you for all the good you've brought to me.

GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN - This table is just to die for. It's so rare that we get tables in this surfboard/banana-shape. It's even rarer to find one that's local Singapore vintage. You can see how well it works with the genuine mid-century European chair on the right (as well as the lovely mid-century reproduction on the left.)

surprise centerpieces for my sister's graduation from columbia college in chicago (last may) - hubs, kids & i made three of them for her dinner following graduation. here is what they looked like on the table at marcello's (such an amazing restaurant, one of my favorite's in chicago!) - www.marcellos.com

*stars - wood stars bought at michael's, painted with metallic acrylic paints & hubby drilled holes into them and glued in thick (12 or 14 gauge) wire that we trimmed to different heights

*button flowers - made by kiddos, hubs & me (we use a 20 gauge wire for these, much easier to work with)

*pots - small flower pots from home depot. we placed (shoved so it would stay firmly) floral foam into the base of the pots

*'ribbon' - we wrapped leftover film from her movies around the pots (she graduated with a degree in cinematography)

*tags - i designed and made the tags to say 'congrats jenny! / class of 2008 / columbia college chicago' using their 'create change' logo (we adhered them with thick foam double sided tape)

*mints - silver filler for the pots are mints bought at the factory card outlet store (worked out great because people ate these after we finished dinner)

*photo holders - thick (12 or 14 gauge) wire that my hubby (so talented) curled at the top to make cute spirals that held the photographs in place

*photos - the reception invitation, cupcake toppers & centerpieces all included photographs of Jenny using a variety of cameras on film shoots through her college years.

these are double sided so when they sat in the middle of the table they looked great from both sides (the other sides had different photographs of Jenny)

(they aren't the greatest pictures but at least they show what all three looked like assembled!)

I found this idea online somewhere... I needed to raise my cutting tables to a more comfortable height.

I cut 4 lengths of 2" PVC into 15" long sections for each table and slipped them over the bottom legs/feet of the table. My cutting tables are now a comfortable 39" tall, perfect for me (I'm 5'9). The tables are ever-so-slightly wobbly, but having two next to each other seem to eliminate that. It really isn't a concern, at all, but I mention it for people who might actually be pickier than me (that would be surprising though since I'm rather particular about things).

Note: You'll need to take in consideration any overlap on your table's feet/legs. I measured from the cross bar to the top of the table, figured out how much taller I wanted the table to be from that point, and then cut my extensions. You may need longer sections if your table legs are set-up differently.

I need to replace the trim throughout my entire house. So I built this tool for about $150, and now I can make moulding for about $0.04/ft, instead of buying it for $1.50-$3.50/ft.

Clare & Brian of Big Table Farm are longtime friends of Outstanding in the Field. Every visit over the years has been magic for both guests & the Outstanding crew. In its annual selection of the Top 100 wines in the world, Wine Spectator honored Big Table’s 2012 Pinot Noir as #11 on the list. OITF commissioned a short film about Big Table a few years back. Timothy Wastell of Sweedeedee was here last year & the consensus of those gathered was wow! All this should lead to multiple exclamations of “my goodness” along the big table at Big Table.

I made this small table runner out of scraps from a quilt my daughter never finished! I really like the fall colors.

The coffee table I am working on. Cherry and walnut. Mortise and thru-tenon joinery. Will be adding drawers next (an decision regretfully made after the table was completed, but before finishing).

This Tuesday finds me relaxing near my new table in my newly-remodelled sitting room. I called it that because at one point there were only two chairs in there. I guess now it's the library. No chairs at all, but plenty of books.
