A recent acquisition at the Cantos Foundation museum of keyboard & electronic instruments.

KORG donated these beauties to the Cantos Foundation.

I'll admit. I SQUEEEE many many times tonight.

Visited the Cantos tonight and got a lovely tour of the facilities. Took a lot of pictures & videos.

what is 'squeeee'? the sound a musical geeky fan girl makes when confronted with blinky lights and keyboards and patch cables and mod wheels and a lot of electronics. kinda sounds like 'gleeeee'.

Margriet Kicks-Ass creates an authentic and direct sound world of raw extremes and no compromises. Already as a child she asked herself: Why are the dishes not arranged alphabetically? She refuses to be intimidated by calls for efficiency and functionality and choses a Dadaistic approach, instead, juggling the context and meaning of daily life objects with an analytical attitude, which reflects her fascination with natural phenomena and technology. This forms the point of departure for her playful kinetic sound sculptures, which she presents as autonomous works and in theatrical live performances. Her new project, the SOUND CASE, consists of an empty record case that she filled with self soldered electronics to produce a wide range of sounds, from sensor driven analog squeaks and squeals to the slick sounds of a synthesizer.

Margriet Kicks-Ass is an interdisciplinary artist based in IJmuiden and Berlin. Recently she initiated a successful series of museum workshops called “Asking Stupid Questions” and she is also known for organizing the annual sound art and performance festival “Rammelfest”. Margriet studied Sound & Image [now Art|Science] at the Royal Conservatoire and Royal Academy of Fine Arts of The Hague (NL) and Audio-Visual Arts in Tilburg. She ignores trends in art and follows her own path, instead, while drawing inspiration from artists such as Theo Jansen, Gerrit van Bakel and Karlheinz Stockhausen.

The back of the Wierd Sound Generator. Note the cheapo alpha pots - I went low budget on this module.

I built this months ago. It has a speaker & volume control knob. It reminded me of a smaller toy instrument that had a knob which adjusted the pitch & tempo!

This has been my "serious project" since sometime in August (except the RRM, which I soldered last year, and finally did a faceplate this year, and the Dual Filter, which I started in the spring and finally did a panel for recenty). I did bring it out to the October 4th Bela Dubby show, but the only module used that night was the MIDIverter.

Needed a shot of something musicy for my portfolio page.

This is the front of my Wierd Sound generator, a synth module I built from plan from Musicfromouterspace.com. The panel was my design, done in FPD from Front Panel Express.

The key action of this keyboard design is actually not great, but it's functional. Now it's completely clear where the keyboard is split when that function is active.

Crazy cross-board jumpers that I had to create, along with my own added P24 header (wasn't on the original board), and mine and a previous owner's hand-lettered labeling.

$50 bucks put together in 1hr, sounds like a dead cat - a pretty gay theremin but cool through a KAOSS pad or an FX rack (I have and old SPX900 - fuckin sweeeet) ! Was selling these from australia to the world on ebay around 1999 for $150+. Sold about 50 or so and made some good $$$ funded the rest of my gear/crack habit. Problem was some people just couldn't read and got pissed off that it was a kit. whatever, fuckin hillbilly. then 4 other dicks from Oz started flogging them and under cutting me, prix...

Well worth the $$$ you can buy them from Jaycar direct on the web, they have a midi one now too - ehf.

Windows have gone in on the second floor. The store front picture windows have been knocked out on the ground floor.

Frequency domain gating can impart a dynamic tonal variation to sounds that gives the listener a sense of absolute loudness. This quality is characteristic of all acoustic instruments (the harder you strike, pluck, or bow, the richer the overtone structure), but has been lacking in electronic instrumentation.-D. Buchla

Cabinet setup as of 2/2009, waiting on plan b 17/28 and some other stuff.
