Unlike its predecessor System 100, the System 100M by Roland was fully modular, and you could purchase modules individually.
I remember drooling over the brochure for this analog synth beauty back in the early Eighties, but never managed to afford one.
My girlfriend's sister Jessica (helping me model the cake) created this synth cake for my birthday. Modeled loosely off the Yamaha DX7 (which I have but she didn't know that I had), and using marble cake batter, Kit Kats for the black keys, Jolly Ranchers, and some licorice decorations here and there. The Rap-Master is completely fried. I picked it up in a thrift for a pittance, hoping the keyboard assembly would be a drop in replacement for the broken SK-1. Alas, it was not to be... Realistic's design was based on the later Casio Rap-Man, and the physical specs changed just enough the two units must be considered separate species.
Anyone have a fried SK-1 I could scavenge the strip of white keys from?
I drawed these whlie I was waiting for my hair dye to take effect. The synthesizer is to by friend Malin!
Just a pic of my gear. Ya know, to keep in my wallet.
Nord Lead + Casio CZ 101 chillin' with sidekick II + Mbox.
Here you can see the very nice aluminum knob that I used for the rotary dial. Feels a bit like a detented version of the Moog Source knob with it's relatively large mass
Front view, now with the reverse keys in the lower two octaves where the keyboard can be functionally split into a lower voice and an upper voice.
Combo Organs had their day in the late 1960s and early 70s. Vox, Farfisa, and other manufacturers all released a flood of instruments, most were general variations on a theme, that were widely embraced by bands of all flavors. If you've heard the Doors, you've heard a Vox Continental, one of the era's most recognizable combo organs. This big and black example is a Yamaha YC 20. One of our favorites, the Yamaha is built like a tank, and offers adjustable vibrato, percussion, and other great features. For an audio example of this model of instrument, go listen to the infamous "96 Tears".

Played by bridging the connection between the two plates. Pitch is controlled by the resistance of the human skin.
