And interesting question was posted on Metafilter recently: Do you have a mental image of "the year" in your head, and if so, what does it look like? About half the responders had no image and the other half described a myriad of shapes and devices.
This is roughly what I've seen, for as long as I could remember. Regarding the varying sizes of the months, I'm going to guess this was formed in my early school years when September seemed long (first month of the school year) and May seemed even longer (will June and the end of the school year ever arrive?). The summer months were long and lazy (wish that were so nowadays). The winter months were too busy to notice much.
It seems like the colors reflect the general mood of the seasons changing. The red line moves around the ring counterclockwise as the days go by. I've found this to be a fascinating psychological exercise, because I've never put this image on paper before. What does your "year" look like?

Corey Fogel is a drummer and performance artist currently living in Los Angeles. Corey performs and composes in many rock, jazz, noise, folk, and chamber music capacities. His solo work as a composer and performance artist is based around spontaneous encounters with sounds, objects, personalities, textiles, foods, spanning video, dance, and installation. In addition to touring and recording nationally and abroad, Corey has been a member of groups: Julia Holter, Missincinatti, The Mae Shi, Gowns, Cryptacize, Barbez, Monstro, The Curtains, Learning Music, Nowcloud, Dominique Leone, 18 Squared. Corey has presented his own work with Machine Project, LACMA, Human Resources, The Wulf, The Hammer Museum, and REDCAT. Corey was recently awarded The California Community Foundation 2014 Fellowship in Visual Arts.
Fogel’s current practice evolved from integrating performance with my earliest creative impulses- adolescent experiments with androgyny, color, fashion, rebellion, and humor. Previously compartmentalized personal expression, craft, and music, now co-exist to explore the sublime.
‘Synesthesia, sensuality, and spirituality have always led me to work instinctually with subjects that naturally attract me. I am inspired by abstract characters that exist between mediums. I create site-specific performances by transposing linear and minimalist musical structures into vibrant, multi-layered compositions of fabric, object, sound, gesture, and organic material. Many works are improvisational, and site-specific. A familiar, inviting, perhaps tongue-in-cheek trope provides a platform for more abstract manipulations, often developing into a surreal myth or ritual. Using materiality, physicality, temporality and corporeality, I engage various media to accomplish newly discovered tasks. I try to intuit the most authentic role for each subject, often uncovering innately sexual, visceral relationships that mirror my behaviors as a percussionist. My recent goals are to stage and distill sculptural, video, and photographic pieces that preserve or pause rich ephemeral moments, to collapse boundaries between disciplines.’

Working on the distinctiveness of sound signals such as phase, frequency and amplitude, Feedback Cycles for Oscillographs produces an audio-driven synesthesia of hypnotic lines drawn from stereophonic disparity. Activated by movement on two wheels, this installative action seeks to reveal the unknown between void and short circuit.

I see the entire song - not just a part of it - in this kind of background. Dark, with tinges of blue and bluish-grey. Oh, and the orientation is east. This is for the entire song, and basically the "backdrop" of the experience, the atmosphere.

I have math-taste synesthesia. When I add these numbers in my head, it produces a sensation of taste. The taste of 7 + 7 = 14 has changed since making this picture...it now tastes like carrots, and I don't know why,
0:17-0:19 seconds into the song "In the City," a B-side by Madness.
This is a rough pencil sketch of what I see in my head when those seconds go by in the song. The guitar is the most prominent blob.
These are all in various colors and are very fleeting. Bass drums are huge dark blobs, larger when slowed down.
To my extreme annoyance, one of the key blobs of the keyboard got cut off. The first one at the left, plus the one that was cut off at the top, were the two most satisfying notes that made me invoke extreme happiness and hilarity when I heard them, notably because they made me think of a girl who's very personality and temperament seemed to match it perfectly. Just the way it starts low at the side, then way up.
While the bass resembles some sort of tapeworm, it is actually more three-dimensional in my mind. Snare hits are sharp and diminishing. The piano is more simple and rectangular. I've put the initials of people that some instruments make me think of - T.D. for the guitar, H.B. for the keyboard and that girl (I'm really angry it cut off, one of the chief purposes for putting it on here) and J.C. for the bass (myself).
The colors are extremely rich. The guitar is green. The bass is a sort of green-brown mixture. The keyboard is a sort of whitish-bluish shiny color, the snare white, the piano a sort of reddish-pinkish I think, and the bass drum a dark color. The hi-hat is a jumble of crossed lines (all white). The faster, the smaller the crosses until they're like *s.
Next I'll be uploading my sketch of what years look like to me in this kind of medium. Other synesthetics have said some years are "further away" or "bigger" than others. For me they go in a particular pattern.

R. Luke DuBois is a composer, artist, and performer who explores the temporal, verbal, and visual structures of cultural and personal ephemera. His recent work is a sonic and encyclopedic relative to time-lapse photography. A practitioner of synesthesia, DuBois relayed the correspondence between painter Vasily Kandinsky and composers Arnold Schoenberg and Alexander Scriabin while inviting the audience to experience an interpretive landscape of sound. The tour was followed by a reception.

Video 014 is a mysterious noisy lo-fi cell phone video (even the author is not sure what it is) transmuted into an aesthetic form of randomness synced with carefully designed sound. The first few seconds are from the original footage, the rest is the song composed entirely from the sounds of the original; sort of like a slow minimal techno. The author wanted to express the expanding of the randomness which is necessary and makes our brains
process input information into a new understanding of the surroundings and the situation.

Experimental light painting.
I was struck by the notion that if the sound from the resonator guitar could be visualised it might look like it were radiating from the instrument and spinning around it.
Shot in a pitch black room. 18mm, f3.5, 10 second exposure and I was trying a circular polariser to see if it worked. Not sure it did!
My 'old faithful' couch guitar, strung with Messer 15's and tuned DADF#AD... but then you can tell that from the colour of the light!

For someone with colored-letter synesthesia, these kids' toys are usually a frustrating thing to look at, because they generally get my colors completely wrong. So when I see one that gets 8 out of 26 letters even close to the right color, I notice.

Bach may be a complex, mathematically sublime composer but this famous air on g string is lacking in obvious rhythm or repetition, compared to modern electronic beats.

I can hardly hear the shutter.
Bright daylight enters from the open door at the far end of the room; the rest of the venue is black except for the orange-red glare from the stage lights.
There is music in my head, music outside of it, and all around, I see colors.
Colors from my synesthesia--the music, Johnny's personality, the emotions in my mind.
I was shooting in black-and-white. I saw colors there, too.
The composition is 'brighter' in my head when I know I've got it right.
I loved that moment, because I loved that feeling.
I was high on music.
High on color.
High on life.
I was in the moment....

Today is Pi Day. I was reading a bit about it here and was struck by the way Daniel Tammet sees his numbers. As someone who only sees them in color, I'm quite jealous that he's gone on beyond zebra and sees them as different shapes. Oh yeah, and that crazy memory of his is cool, too.
