Synchronicity
What is the probability that two people - both carrying stuff on their head - will pass by two other people with cameras :)
A couple of days ago, I wanted a fresh change to the wallpaper on my computer and used this photo of Roshnii. It was taken in Lalbagh Gardens, Bangalore.
A few days prior, I had sent the photo to Mikel. He's currently mapping India with OpenStreetMap and I asked him to send me the latitude and longitude of the tree if he saw it...
He replied that he'd been there a couple of days earlier and had had a great time hanging around the tree and all its roots.
A couple of days later, he was in Barcelona, picked up a magazine and saw the very same photo.
Why?
Synchronicity! After spending some time writing about my mother, I dropped a ribbon on my desk. The next morning I noticed it was in the shape of a heart. I have left it sitting there.

Oh and:
The Law of Fives states simply that: ALL THINGS HAPPEN IN FIVES, OR ARE DIVISIBLE BY OR ARE MULTIPLES OF FIVE, OR ARE SOMEHOW DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY APPROPRIATE TO 5.
The Law of Fives is never wrong.
In the Erisian Archives is an old memo from Omar to Mal-2: "I find the Law of Fives to be more and more manifest the harder I look."

Synchronicity? Two trains passing at the same spot of this bridge while two police officers stopping a car under the same bridge. And it all happened when the self-timer released the shutter of my camera. Only minutes before this shot, while I was setting up the tripod, there were no trains and no police officers.

Ann Coulter Speech Shut Down in Canada
Wednesday, 24 Mar 2010 10:35 AM
A protest by hundreds of students led organizers to cancel a Tuesday night speech by American conservative commentator Ann Coulter at the University of Ottawa.
A spokesman for the organizers said Coulter was advised against appearing after about 2,000 "threatening" students crowded the entrance to Marion Hall, posing a security threat.
"It would be physically dangerous for Ann Coulter to proceed with this event," said conservative political activist Ezra Levant inside the hall. "This is an embarrassing day for the University of Ottawa and their student body . . . who chose to silence her through threats and intimidation."
A protest organizer, international studies student Mike Fancie, said he was pleased they were able to stop Coulter from speaking.
"What Ann Coulter is practicing is not free speech, it's hate speech," he said. "She's targeted the Jews, she's targeted the Muslims, she's targeted Canadians, homosexuals, women, almost everybody you could imagine."
The announcement of the cancellation was greeted with shouts of "Shame" and "We want Ann" from about 100 people inside the hall. Outside protesters mockingly chanted "Goodbye Ann Coulter."
About 10 Ottawa police cars were called to the scene, but there were no incidents.
Coulter expressed her outrage, calling the University of Ottawa a "bush league" institution in an interview for The Washington Times.
"This has never happened before," she told the newspaper. "I go to the best schools, Harvard, the Ivy League and those kids are too intellectually proud" to threaten speakers.
Levant blamed the bedlam on university academic vice-president Francois Houle, who had written Coulter to warn her that Canadian laws make provisions for hate speech.
"Promoting hatred against any identifiable group would not only be considered inappropriate, but could in fact lead to criminal charges," he warned her in the letter, which Coulter quickly leaked to the media.
The university has refused to comment since. Levant said Houle's advice to Coulter had emboldened students to block her appearance.
Coulter, a best-selling author and syndicated columnist, was in the middle of a three-city tour of Canada, which began at the University of Western Ontario in London on Monday, and ends in Calgary on Thursday.
The event in London went without incident, but not without controversy.
When answering questions from students, Coulter told a 17-year-old Muslim student to "take a camel" instead of the flying carpet she has previously suggested Muslims use for transportation. Coulter later told CTV that the "camel" remark was a joke.
Last month when Jim made (English) muffins for the MSH one of the recipes he consulted was in this leaflet. I was very taken by the idea of a build-your-own-bread-oven but decided, given the warning in it about the great fire of London being started at a baker's we ought to wait until we'd moved to the country (someday).
Today I heard about the fire in Camden Market (London) that started last night. I used to go to Camden Lock market on Sundays in the early '80s when I lived in London.
Then in what I thought was a bit of strange synchronicity I happened to be checking up in a book called "Head Trip" about one of the states of consciousness that its quite hard to achieve - but which is apparently taught to children with attention problems to improve their concentration. I was amazed to find that this book mentioned the great fire of London too - he'd been given a school text book to read whilst strapped to the machine they were using to decode his EEG .

It's been so incredibly hot and quite awhile since we've had a good rain, so our neighborhood lake is covered in a film of algae and sludge. As gross as it is, I kinda like the textures and green patterns that it makes on the water's surface.

Synchronicity II

Another suburban family morning
Grandmother screaming at the wall
We have to shout above the din of our Rice Crispies
We can't hear anything at all
Mother chants her litany of boredom and frustration
But we know all her suicides are fake
Daddy only stares into the distance
There's only so heartace he can take
Many miles away
Something crawls from the slime
At the bottom of a dark Scottish lake
Another industrial ugly morning
The factory belches filth into the sky
He walks unhindered through the picket lines today
He doesn't think to wonder why
The secretaries pout and preen like
cheap tarts in a red light street
But all he ever thinks to do is watch
And every single meeting with his so-called superior
Is a humiliating kick in the crotch
Many miles away
Something crawls to the surface
Of a dark Scottish loch
Another working day has ended
Only the rush hour hell to face
Packed like lemmings into shiny metal boxes
Contestants in a suicidal race
Daddy grips the wheel and stares alone into the distance
He knows that something somewhere has to break
He sees the family home now looming in his headlights
The pain upstairs that makes his eyeballs ache
Many miles away
There's a shadow on the door
Of a cottage on the shore
Of a dark Scottish lake
Many miles away, many miles away

Synchronic-Diachronic. Conceptual Model. Cardboard. 5.86 x 5.86 x 5.86"
Based on Aarati Kanekar's analysis of the Danteum by Giuseppe Terragni, This model explains the synchronic and diachronic paths in the building.
1) This cube represents hell as a compact, dense, and crowded space.
2) Purgatory comes out from hell. It slides out of the cube in a golden section proportion. Purgatory is less dense than hell.
3) Finally, Paradise comes out from Purgatory in a golden section relation. The cube has lost almost all its density and now its a light, open space. When all the spaces are deployed, a final volume appears in the middle of the space (The Empire).
4) While the main path in the building is diachronic, The Empire allows a synchronic vision of all the spaces at once. In the model, it is the intersection or void that connects all the spaces at the same time.

STRATEGIC SYNCHRONICITY
FUTURA - Pioneer of the American Urban Art Movement
Comes to LA for First Ever Solo Show
When: Thursday September 18th 2008 – Sunday September 21st, 2008
Where: Phantom Galleries LA at the Pacific Electric Lofts 610 S. Main St. Downtown LA, 90014
Preview for the Downtown LA Art Walk 6-10pm September 11, 2008
DowntownArtWalk.com
KRUNK presents, Strategic Synchronicity – an incredibly rare four-day event featuring the first ever LA solo-show by the internationally acclaimed graffiti artist & true pioneer of the American Urban Art movement – Futura. This once in a lifetime event starts on Thursday September 18th and will only continue until Sunday September 21st (in a secret location in Downtown LA). Then it's gone.
This, as perhaps Futura's most anticipated body of work ever, will showcase his extraordinary talent with a range of original canvases and drawings. Fans and art collectors will have a narrow window of opportunity to purchase original Futura art, with prices starting from $1,500 and upwards. The exhibition will not only showcase his new work but will also take a genuinely evolving organic form - a work in progress. This will be a truly historic occasion for fine art and street culture in the U.S. and should not be missed.
"LA was an obvious destination for me to showcase this collection. The city has so many incredible creatives who I consider as friends and whose work I respect enormously. It's about time I hit LA particularly with this collection. Above all, I'm looking forward to having some fun presenting AND creating this new work in LA." Futura
What to expect: Futura's past experience merges with his vision of the future, combining his tendency towards meticulous precision with his trademark free-flowing spraycan techniques. His art appears effortless in its abstraction with commentary on themes such as 'space' and 'the future' and his interpretation of 'the present'. Those lucky enough to be present might spot an 'old friend' in his work (perhaps for the last time?) as well as some incredible advancements and developments of his art form:
Futura has always had a keen interest and somewhat of an obsession with the latest technologies, so expect to see canvases stretched onto aluminium (in order to prevent warping due to environmental factors), pieces complemented by specifically devised music scores and film trials and much more.
"I consider this collection my best work yet, when I started on it I could feel myself about to explode. All these years of development and it reflects my growth and evolution. I want this work considered on its merits….and in that sense, I'm going right back to the beginning." Futura

I don't believe in stars, I do believe in time; I'm sure it holds a quality that soaks us; we, just like the stars, are soaked with time.
The curious mind digs into the quality of the birth's time of the friend with glory in his eyes; smells ancient beliefs that see in the second home the dominance of the image, and in the sign of Taurus the caretaker of sight; smiles shy discovering in his friend's stars a second house so perfectly centered in the sign of Taurus.

This picture of the entrance to Caisteal Grugaig Broch could be the starting image for a production that in parts follows the routine of a preflight safety announcement. Using hands gestures familiar to flight attendants, as well as to those focused on their gesticulation, the central aisle can be indicated with two hands in a parallel almost chopping gesture. The side portals leading of the central aisle can be indicated with repeated sideways palms outwards chopping actions. Instead of indicating routes to safely leave the plane to escape danger the indications in this imaginary production would be a guide to places ready to engage, encounter and experience the traveller with the history and mystery raised in the remains of the stone structure. For me the preflight safety announcement idea opens up the potential available from following the direct route down the aisle as a visitor stooping and stepping into the central open section.
Also I am following the imaginary guide from the preflight safety announcement to step off the central aisle to take in the potential available from the side portals. By absolute happenstance the image when reflected has a some excellent patterns that create figures with one of them looking like an iconic version of old sacred statuary with a superb feather headdress. The synchronicity of the patterns holding such striking figures is supremely serendipitous as I have recently been looking at iconic old sacred statuary and enjoying the symbols in their structure when synchronicity strikes at the edges of the images of Caisteal Grugaig Broch rousing notions of a preflight safety announcement to then reveal in reflections of statue like figures.
The witchcraft that is stirred into these images is not the cunning editing as the editing is simple and straightforward just reflecting the original image. The name name Caisteal Grugaig is a reminder of the witch that supposedly lived here. Grugaig had two sons Telve and Todder. The sons are sometimes mentioned as giants and these two giants built and lived in Dun Telve and Dun Troddan the two magnificent brochs just over the hills and past Glenelg. There is also Dun Gruaig Broch that is closer to Dun Telve and Dun Troddan so the witch may have been in two places at once as well as having two giant sons in two magnificent brochs. Which ever way the witch story weaves a narrative, the beauty of the four brochs is tale set in stone that is worth telling and retelling.
The stones rise into open skies that release the imagination to fuel our inspiration until we are in our own ingenious visualisation ready to recount our own narration of witches, giants and brochs. I have my story from listening in to the wind and reflecting the resound of the echoes from the ground that around a campfire can be shared as water bubbles and boils to give accompanying brew to enlighten the story.
There are some further details here. Some useful details here.
Caisteal Grugaig Broch, if not with the white Hare Hind as seen in some of the other pictures, is a phantastique place of solid stone and dreaming design. Something secure rose here to stretch the sky and meet the clouds and even as the stone falls gently back down to the ground the sky still rolls in off the mountains and across the lochs to meet this site next to fresh water and towering over the sea.
