KRUNK presents, Strategic Synchronicity – an incredibly rare four-day event featuring the first ever LA solo-show by the internationally acclaimed graffiti artist & true pioneer of the American Urban Art movement – Futura. This once in a lifetime event starts on Thursday September 18th and will only continue until Sunday September 21st (in a secret location in Downtown LA). Then it's gone.
This, as perhaps Futura's most anticipated body of work ever, will showcase his extraordinary talent with a range of original canvases and drawings. Fans and art collectors will have a narrow window of opportunity to purchase original Futura art, with prices starting from $1,500 and upwards. The exhibition will not only showcase his new work but will also take a genuinely evolving organic form - a work in progress. This will be a truly historic occasion for fine art and street culture in the U.S. and should not be missed.
"LA was an obvious destination for me to showcase this collection. The city has so many incredible creatives who I consider as friends and whose work I respect enormously. It's about time I hit LA particularly with this collection. Above all, I'm looking forward to having some fun presenting AND creating this new work in LA." Futura
What to expect: Futura's past experience merges with his vision of the future, combining his tendency towards meticulous precision with his trademark free-flowing spraycan techniques. His art appears effortless in its abstraction with commentary on themes such as 'space' and 'the future' and his interpretation of 'the present'. Those lucky enough to be present might spot an 'old friend' in his work (perhaps for the last time?) as well as some incredible advancements and developments of his art form:
Futura has always had a keen interest and somewhat of an obsession with the latest technologies, so expect to see canvases stretched onto aluminium (in order to prevent warping due to environmental factors), pieces complemented by specifically devised music scores and film trials and much more.
"I consider this collection my best work yet, when I started on it I could feel myself about to explode. All these years of development and it reflects my growth and evolution. I want this work considered on its merits….and in that sense, I'm going right back to the beginning." Futura

Kate and I are big fans of Miyazaki's "My Neighbour Totoro". Knowing this, a friend of ours (Rob Phall) brought me back some Totoro phone-bling from a recent trip he made to Tokyo. In the UK phone-bling is more usually associated with teenage girls but who cares, I think it looks great. But imagine my surprise when I went to lunch with two work friends (Richard Banks and Murray Sim) and Richard put his phone on the table and he also had Totoro phone-bling that his wife had bought him years ago! Needless to say the tree spirits all had a good time together while we chatted about Murray's internship project. Thanks to Murray for the photos.
Earlier today, (12/21/09), during this Christmas break from teaching at Florida A&M University, I had the opportunity to catch up on my readings in an ongoing research project that I was doing. One of the books that I been reading earlier today was "Through the Eyes of Science, Myth, and the Trickster: Synchronicity" by Allan Combs and Mark Holland, New York: Marlowe & Company, 1996.
Later that evening, there was a knock on my front door. It was a door to door salesman selling snack items to raise money for a youth organization. At first, without opening my door, I stated that I was not interested. Then for some reason, I did open the door and explained that I was sorry, but I wasn't interested in buying any of his items.
During his introductory sales pitch he introduced himself and said that his name was George Clark. I immediately became suspicious and asked him for his ID. He showed me a picture ID and it stated that his name was George J. Clark from Jacksonville Florida. I started asking him questions about why he was in my neighborhood, why did he come to this particular house, if he knew me or had ever seen me before; to which he answered no to all my questions. He seem to become nervous and uneasy with my questioning; so I then told him that my name was also George Clark. I wish that I would have had my camera at that point because besides almost losing his balance on my porch, the expression on his face was priceless.
I asked him if he has ever heard of the concept of synchronicity and explained it to him when he told me that he hadn't. I also told him about my research project on synchronicity and the fact that I had been reading a book on the subject earlier that day.
I asked him if I could take his picture to document this experience and this is the result.
So I will end with one of my hakus:
So, who is George Clark,
is George Clark really George Clark?
Synchronicity.
SYNCHRONICITY:
"The experience of two or more events as meaningfully related, whereas they are unlikely to be causally related. The subject sees it as a meaningful coincidence, although the events need not be exactly simultaneous in time. The concept of synchronicity was first described by Carl Gustav Jung, a Swiss psychologist, in the 1920s."
Submitted for your approval: on Sunday, November 24th 2013, cosplayers at the Richmond Virginia and Long Beach California Comicons take the same picture (basically) although they are 2,827 miles apart. Coincidence? Or has the time-space continuum begun to collapse on itself?

Every Breath You Take: The Police, Synchronicity
This is probably one of the most popular songs about basically stalking someone. This has been covered and sampled by countless artists, and is probably one of The Police’s most popular songs.
I remember when this song came out and the video for it. I was just a kid so I didn’t really think too much on the meaning of the lyrics. Later on I realized what it meant to be stalked and yet I never really thought that being stalked was that big of a deal… it is. It really is.
Being stalked really is not a laughing matter, and I can say that from experience. I have been stalked, trailed and followed by people in the past and I will say that complete strangers are far more scary than people you know, mostly because you have no idea what their intentions or capabilities are.
I did have a time in college when I was stalked by a girl- to the point where she would sneak in my apartment and wait for me to come home. Thankfully she’d get busted by my roommate and get thrown out, but I did have an occasion where she didn’t get caught and scared the crap out of me. I can laugh about it now for sure… but not at the time.
To make it worse the next day we had a rehearsal for a gig and it was an open rehearsal (a lot of people came to hear us jam and just hang out). The girl was there in the audience with her friends, and I was back stage setting up my gear. The guy singing vocals and rhythm guitar stepped up to the microphone to do a sound check and said “This one’s for you [last name]…” He played this song riff and everyone started laughing-apparently the story had gotten out though it wasn’t by me… that’s about the only time I could laugh about it because she never snuck in my apartment again.

Stalker Binoculars I guess… this tree was dropping spiders: literally. As I was taking the shots I kept getting hit with spiders and mosquitoes. Thanks, Texas.
Lyrics:
Every breath you take
Every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take
I'll be watching you
Every single day
Every word you say
Every game you play
Every night you stay
I'll be watching you
O can't you see
You belong to me
How my poor heart aches with every step you take
Every move you make
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake
Every claim you stake
I'll be watching you
Since you've gone I been lost without a trace
I dream at night I can only see your face
I look around but it's you I can't replace
I feel so cold and I long for your embrace
I keep crying baby, baby please
Every move you make
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake
Every claim you stake
I'll be watching you

There's a little black spot on the sun today
It's the same old thing as yesterday
There's a black cat caught in a high tree top
There's a flag-pole rag and the wind won't stop
I have stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running 'round my brain
I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign
But it's my destiny to be the king of pain
There's a little black spot on the sun today
(That`s my soul up there)
It's the same old thing as yesterday
(That`s my soul up there)
There's a black cat caught in a high tree top
(That`s my soul up there)
There's a flag-pole rag and the wind won't stop
(That`s my soul up there)
I have stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running 'round my brain
I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign
But it's my destiny to be the king of pain
There's a fossil that's trapped in a high cliff wall
(That`s my soul up there)
There's a dead salmon frozen in a waterfall
(That`s my soul up there)
There's a blue whale beached by a spring tide's ebb
(That`s my soul up there)
There's a butterfly trapped in a spider's web
(That`s my soul up there)
I have stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running 'round my brain
I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign
But it's my destiny to be the king of pain
There's a king on a throne with his eyes torn out
There's a blind man looking for a shadow of doubt
There's a rich man sleeping on a golden bed
There's a skeleton choking on a crust of bread
King of pain
There's a red fox torn by a huntsman's pack
There's a black-winged gull with a broken back
There's a little black spot on the sun today
It's the same old thing as yesterday
I have stood here before inside the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running 'round my brain
I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign
But it's my destiny to be the king of pain
King of pain
I'll always be king of pain
I'll always be king of pain
I once over-exerted the Bentos brainbox in an attempt to understand C. G. Jung's theories concerning what he called "synchronicity". This resulted in a kind of double hernia of the brain which gave me an enduring aversion to heavyweight eggheads and confirmed me as a middlebrow.
Even so it's an interesting subject and, when you become aware of them, coincidences are so common that you begin to wonder whether they can be entirely ...well, coincidental. We all know the kind of thing. You think of someone and he walks around the corner a few seconds later, or you come across a new word and look up its meaning in the dictionary, only to encounter it twice a day for the next week.
Almost the last photo I submitted to Flickr before leaving for a short holiday was entitled "The Barbapapa of Buses". The Barbapapa children's books were, I think, French in origin, but a cartoon version, probably also French but re-voiced for English consumption by Michael Flanders, was shown by the BBC in the 1970s. I don't suppose I'd thought of Barbapapa more than two or three times in the 30 years since, but when we arrived at the holiday cottage we'd rented in southern Belgium, stone me if the custodian didn't give me the keys on a Barbapapa key fob! Well ...it certainly makes you think, doesn't it?
This character is, I am sure, Barbamama. Other members of the protean Barbapapa family that I can remember are (of course) Barbapapa, Barbalib (who liked reading), Barbalala (who was musical) and Barbabrave.

We will tell you what to do.
You do not know how to make anything? We have all a competence, discuss it.
To participate:

Every folder will then be removed from the inventory and kept. Only the folder of the previous participant will be accessible. Every participant makes a commitment not to use the elements found in the inventory for any creation other than the Synchronicity Avatar Collaborative.
Every participant has a deadline from 15 days to 3 weeks to realize his creation.
The SynchroniCity project lasts on one year but if the proposition meets a success we shall prolong it beyond.
Create the most original or delirious avatar but NOTHING racist, pornographic, gory, or offensive and no avatars in evening dress...
Every creation will be documented, by photo, movie... We also intend to create avatars to wear the stages of the avatar-transformation, during events or in a permanent way.

Catherine got me this book because she thought I should cultivate a spiritual path of some sort. She didn't want to be the only one studying a spiritual path. She recognized that my spiritual inclination was more shamanic and earth based than Buddhist, so she got this book because of some other book my mother mentioned that had turned her onto synchronicity. One of the reviews of that book said it was too vague and mentioned this book.
I liked that it wasn't completely wu wu like many of these create your own reality books even though it does have a similar message. Because the author had a background in psychology, but then embraced shamanism it was easy to follow how he first understood the mind and then learned to fathom something much broader and interconnected with the planet.
We've heard of the reptilian brain because it was explained in the New Yorker article by the French guy who marketed the SUV. Known here as the Serpent level, it is primarily interested in survival. This author adds three more brain levels. The next one up is Jaguar which is the intellectual brain interpreting how our thoughts influence our experience of reality. This is the realm of psychology differentiating elements of reality, explaining the world with science and knowledge. Then we come to Hummingbird where the soul experiences itself as sacred and the journey is described in myth by artists, poets, musicians and dreams. Finally there is Eagle where the soul becomes one with the universe.
These three new brain levels gave me all I needed to lay to rest my argument with the psychological approach to the human condition and confirmed for me that the interpretations of artists and writers was a more evolved picture of the soul. Given this new tool, I immediately turned to the nearest psychologist I was having trouble with and bludgeoned her with it. So much for my maturity.
He then offers a summary of the 9 chakras and what they do plus exercise to cleanse the chakras. The next step is to get a hold of our stories. Because Western culture is so obliterated by the warped tales of Christian dogma, our stories generally involve a victim (usually us), a perpetrator (them) and a rescuer (knight in shining armor). He has the reader write their life story; one story as the victim of all that life dished out for us and one as the recipient of gifts along the way that provided exactly the right lessons we needed to learn. Luckily I did this already and also included the next exercise which is one to honor the gifts of our ancestors.
He talks about shedding all the cultural stories and expectations, including how we will die. Also how to overcome fear. This all points to how we can rethink our lives by becoming the creators, the story tellers of our lives. This makes much more sense to me than the whole make your own reality sloganeering. I understand stories. I understand that they are journeys of the imagination that once created with language, give back with insight and firm up intention. He talks about praying, not for a certain outcome but for the life force to take over and create with us. This is much more appealing to me since I never believed the bit about how the client has all the answers and the coach just has to help them get to the answers. That just makes me feel like I'm trapped in the pinball machine of my own limited mind.
Finally he comes to the moment of nothingness in which he shows us where to look for our inner sage by asking two questions. The first applying to what one is doing or experiencing i.e. "who is writing this book review?". Then ask "who is asking this question." And look at who or what that is.
After that you dream the world you want, i.e. be the change you want to see in the world and stop using those god damn plastic bags. But to really get it he describes how to rethink time not as cause and effect in linear time, but by stepping out of that timeline and seeing all time at once. Once we step out of time we can see the most desirable outcome and choose it. To grasp this concept I saw time as a story teller would, in that I could write a story from beginning to end by going back to the past and highlighting those events which led to the present and then foreseeing the events that would lead to the outcome I wanted. For instance if I wanted to live a long life and die the day after a lovely hike in the mountains what would that story look like? I would have to be the sort of person who would go hiking indefinitely. Which means I would have to be hiking right now. And that of course makes the present very important.
Then I went to karate class and was so psyched that I was going to live in peak physical condition until the day before I died that I experienced an extraordinarily focused hour and a half that went by like it was half an hour. Wow. More like this please.

Repeating the basics:
color calibrating your display should make this show VERY similar colors compared to a real life "Kalibriertafel" (IT8 target). Actual measured data in a file should be available somewhere on the 'net - but as this one was made in 2007 it might be "too old" (hmm... it was not too old www.danes-picta.com/ ).
NOTE: Perfection is close to impossible. Even with the best gear there is. Lower the cost on any link in the "gear-chain" and it immediately lowers the possible level.
Gear-chain: Subject, Lighting, Exposure, Camera. Conversion software, Color profiles, editors Display hardware, Calibration, Post processing software and adjustments, Format conversion (i.e. to JPG)-imposed limitations, end user Display hardware, Calibration quality, Display software settings.
The three front runners in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Marathon.
All runners seem to be nicely synchronised.
Talk about unity!
I'm on a pretty long drive today. All will be revealed later IF everything goes to plan. I'm ultra nervous!
Match is on tonight as well. Anyone know what time? I'll have to find a Walkabout somewhere to watch it in.
Nb. Processed on iPhone. Phone was vibrating a lot so I've tried to sharpen it - hence the noisey grain and blur.
