Still clinging to full EWS branding, DB Cargo 66106 trundles through Acton Bridge working 6E26 Knowsley Freight Terminal - Wilton EFW.
I'm yet to nail a red 66 on this working, despite them being quite common. Although I was disappointed it wasn't in DB's smart red house colours, I couldn't help but smile to see this one still in good condition with full branding and no silly DB stickers. I remember saying to a good mate about 5 years ago that one day everyone will be chasing the EWS livery 66s and not the DB corporate ones, I didn't expect it to happen quite this fast though with so many being sticker'd! Makes you wonder how the railway can change over a relatively short time scale...
West Coast Railways 57314 coasts through Keckwick, Daresbury, working 1Z18 Chester to Scarborough with the Northern Belle charter stock and. 57601 'Windsor Castle' on the rear. 4/4/19
Sporting a black eye on its left side, GB Railfreight 66741 'Swanage Railway' storms through Moore working 6E10 liverpool Biomass Terminal - Drax AES.
On the longest day of 2019, local pest 66741 'Swanage Railway' passes Moore Lane, Warrington as it accelerates from a short stop on the bank approaching Acton Grange Jn working 6E24 Liverpool Biomass Terminal - Drax AES.
Whilst a 66 hauled biomass isn't much to write home about, the light was crystal clear (much, much later than it was meant to be!!) and with this shot only on for a few weeks of the year, owing to the large trees on the left of the frame, it was well worth a punt after a frustrating day.
I LOVE this song by Swifty and here is my doll, who I call Taylor because I think she looks like her :) 'And when I felt like I was an old cardigan
Under someone's bed
You put me on and said I was your favourite'
47830 'Beeching's Legacy' approaches Latchford Sidings at Bridgefoot, Warrington, working 0Z47 Crewe Basford Hall SSN - Fiddlers Ferry Power Station. I believe this is the last semaphore on this stretch of the line also. I didn't mind getting absolutely soaked as much as the it meant the light improved a bit for 830 arriving. As with the other image, I tried to find locations and frame the images so it's not just 'a train' but to have a bit of a scene around it which is a bit more important when it's only a single loco.
Colas Rail 56090 & 56049 'Robin of Templecombe' pause for a driver change next to a chav who wouldn't stay still at Warrington Bank Quay working the re-timed 6C37 Chirk Kronospan - Carlisle Yard. Usually, it isn't possible to photograph this train here with the working stopping much later than the 2355 closing time on a weekday. 21/5/19
In some interesting signalling, Virgin Trains' 1P09 was up its backside from Basford Hall Jn, but the grids stayed in front until Springs Branch Jn.
Colas 60085 rounds the curve into Helsby working 6J37 Carlisle Yard - Chirk Kronospan loaded log train.
After the disappointment of the 97 I hung about a bit longer for this fine pair, Freightliner 86604 leads 86607 through Warrington Bank Quay working 4S56 Crewe Basford Hall - Coatbridge FLT.
Seen as I've not got any snowy pics for Xmas, here's an extinct scene instead.
LNER 43299 pauses at York working 1S28 London Kings Cross - Edinburgh with classmate 43312 on the rear. This shot was taken shortly before the HST run down began. Sadly, it won't be repeated.
Happy Christmas to all of my friends and followers and all the very best for 2020!
Not an every day sight through the Oxford Rd corridor, preserved 37025 ‘Inverness TMD’ leads the monthly 1Q44 Crewe CS - Crewe CS via the world with Colas 37116 on the rear. The pair then trundled down the CLC line to Liverpool which is the only loco hauled service booked on the line with the exception of the Ultrasonic test which runs in the middle of the night. 21/2/19
One shot i've wanted to do with a 60 for ages, Colas Rail 60096 stands at Warrington Bank Quay for a crew change working 6J37 Carlisle Yard - Chirk with loaded logs. 9/2/18
Following a short stop at Warrington Bank Quay, 6233 'Duchess Of Sutherland' gets back up to speed approaching Winwick Junction working 1Z86 Shrewsbury - Preston with The Railway Touring Companies 'The Great Britain XII'.
29th April, 2019.
Most people who know me will know that generally steam doesn’t really interest me. I’ll usually pop out for the likes of ‘Flying Scotsman’ or ‘Tornado’ as I remember seeing them whilst growing up. However, there is one steam loco that I will always make an effort to get out for when it’s passing and that is the Duchess of Sutherland. The reason for this is because of the person responsible for getting me into railways, my grandad. When I was roughly about 10, I remember sitting on platform 12 at Crewe station with him and we noticed there was quite a crowd gathered down the bottom end. This being well before the days of Realtime Trains, we sat and wondered what was going to turn up. About 10 minutes later 6233 ‘Duchess of Sutherland’ comes into view and runs down the goods loop towards the heritage centre. I remember seeing the smile on his face and he explained how he used to see it when he was younger. Whilst this didn’t at the time convert me to steam, in later years (initially through videos and later photography) I always tried to record the Duchess whenever it was running locally to show him. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2015 so I’ll never get to show him this photo, but I’d like to hope he was watching it pass with a smile and presumably having a good laugh at the 4 of us waiting with baited breath to see if the cloud would just about clear in time which, luckily, it did.
I would like to dedicate this photo to my grandad, for being the one ‘to blame’ for me taking up the hobby. I’m sure he would be smiling that I’m taking pictures of steam engines and not just dirty diesels!
On hire from HN Rail, 37612 stands at a surprisingly quiet Sheffield working Colas Infrastructure Monitoring's 1Q50 Doncaster West Yard - Doncaster C.H.S. with PLPR1 and 37610 in tow.
This working is usually operated by DRS with their traction, however, this was operationally not possible so 37612/610 and their PLPR rake were borrowed from Doncaster to work it instead of 1Q67/68 to and from Wigan.
The consist for those interested, 37612 - 975091 ‘Mentor’ - 72631 (PLPR1) - 977997 (Radio Survey) - 9523 (Brake Force Runner) - 37610. 13/2/20
Floorless Formz Promo Shoot
I was resisting shooting at this location initially. It's been done to death locally, so the trick was to try and use it completely differently. I hope I've achieved that.
The art in the background is by members of the Unstoppable Nature (USN) Posse who I'm in the early stages of arranging a shoot and possible other project with. One of them, David, was one of my 100 Strangers a while back.
Strobist
2xSB28 in the background which you can see.
SB24 camera left in 40 cm softbox
430EX into 60 cm softbox camera right with diffusion panel removed to give a large but hardish light source.
All equidistant from Swifty but the front 2 at differing levels to each other.
The location is covered by a high roof with open sides making it permanently shaded. The roof has 2 skylights in it. One of which is giving the great light on the top half of the wall and really kicking the green.
LNER's Intercity 91119 'Bounds Green Intercity Depot 1977-2017' stands at York before continuing north working 1S26 London Kings Cross - Edinburgh. This loco really is a credit to Bounds Green depot, after 258 days out of traffic and substantial repairs it couldn't be anymore befitting of its name.
DB 90034 finally delivers the goods and turns up on the front with classmate 90019 'Multimodal' behind working 4M25 Mossend Euroterminal - Daventry IRFT on the first day of summer 2020.
I'd imagine the driver was probably not best pleased that it took a good two hours to get from one side of Warrington to the other, enough to rival the evening rush hour!
The sagging return wire gives a good indication of how warm it was.
June 1st 2020.
Following their appearance at the 'All Change' event at Crewe DMD, DB Cargo 67006 'Royal Sovereign' leads LNER 91119 'Bounds Green Intercity Depot 1977-2017' through Winwick Jn in a small burst of sun working 0Z91 Crewe HS - Doncaster West Yard via the WCML and the Tyne Valley due to gauging issues. 9th June 2019.
With the sun just (and only just!) emerging from a large cloud, GBRf 60096 'Impetus' powers up the hill towards Weaver Jn at Daresbury working 6E09 Tuebrook Sidings - Drax AES. 20/3/20
Sadly, Fiddlers Ferry Power station has now been fired for the last time with its doors soon to close for good.

Freightliner 86612 leads 'Powerhaul' liveried classmate 86622 through Acton Bridge working the sorely missed 4K64 Garston FLT - Crewe Basford Hall.
For some reason I never uploaded this but in my many attempts to get this train, this was the only occasion I got it in sun and with any containers remotely close to the cans! I remember just as the cab of '612 passed me, a London Midland 350 flew passed on the way to Liverpool. I'm pretty sure I got done on every other photo that day except the Avonmouth cement tanks but went away a happy man!
A smart looking Freightliner 66533 ‘Senator Express’ heads 6H35 Runcorn Folly Ln - Northenden through Acton Bridge.
Nice pair of 90s after doing the 88 at Red Bank. 041 leads 043 through Winwick Jn working 4S45 Daventry - Coatbridge.
Old "Swifty" goes from Brown to green and back to brown in a matter of minutes. Check the timeline in the EXIF data for the time. Quite interesting to watch.
Sporting the very smart Northern RAF livery, 156480 'Spirit of The Royal Air Force' stands at Warrington Central with 156488 behind working 1F94 Manchester Airport - Liverpool Lime Street.
With the rain having finally stopped and a 'promising' (well, not dark blue!) radar picture, I made a trip up the road for a shot I've been after for a while.
DB 60074 is seen nearing journeys end as it passes Moore on the approach to Warrington working 6F07 Peak Forest - Dallam Freight Terminal with a smart rake of corporate livery wagons.
The final shot of the decade for me sees GB Railfreight celebrity shed 66779 'Evening Star' powers through Winwick Junction with the delayed 6E10 Liverpool Biomass Terminal - Drax AES. 31/12/19.
Colas Rail 37219 'Jonty Jarvis' stands at York working 1Z01 Inverness T.C. - Derby R.T.C. with a PLPR set and 37521 on the rear. The working was booked to go via the avoider but ran via the station for a crew change.
The stock had originated from DRS' Scottish PLPR circuit which had been cut short again this month.
Not the easiest shot with the different lighting!
4/11/19.
60103 'Flying Scotsman' passes Moore working 5V44 Carnforth Steamtown - Southall ahead of upcoming tour commitments. The move was crewed by WCRC.
Another shot I wanted to get ticked off locally, Direct Rail Services 88010 'Aurora' approaches Moore, Warrington, working 4M48 Mossend Euroterminal - Daventry IRFT.
A bit of incredible luck on this one, thankfully the crew change at Bank Quay gave the squiff just enough time to clear with moments to spare!
