Yet another York roof shot!!

On hire to Colas Rail, HNRail (Ex DRS) 37612 stands under the roof at York leading 1Q64 Derby R.T.C. - Doncaster West Yard with PLPR1 in tow and 37116 on the rear. 18/11/2020

One of the fastest crew picks ups I've seen for this working but also one of the more impressive departures. The noise made even the 68s sound quiet in comparison!

While most of the gathered 'fotters' had congregated around the rather weird looking 37610, Colas Rail 37219 'Jonty Jarvis' stands under the roof at York working 1Q64 Derby RTC - Doncaster West Yard. 11/2/19

A fairly crap pairing and poor parking but nonetheless nice to see a pair of tractors under the roof on my birthday.

London North Eastern Railway 91101 'Flying Scotsman' pauses at York working 1N29 London Kings Cross - Newcastle. 18/11/19

Pointing towards Dublin, the Irish Ferries "Dublin Swift " points to Dublin, heading swifty.

More 90 photting!

On what was the pairings final day on the working, ex DRS blue 90034 leads DB 90019 'Multimodal' through Red Bank working 4M25 Mossend Euroterminal - Daventry IRFT.

Was entertained by 4 of these guys at Brydon Lagoon. I had a fun day of birding today with a wide range of birds including a locally rare Northern Goshawk, Mountain Chickadee and a Swamp Sparrow. The Grebe in this photo was obviously listening to Taylor Swift.

Freightliner 'Powerhaul' livery 90049 leads 90043 through Daresbury working 4M27 Coatbridge - Daventry Russel intermodal. The final shot before the chase of all chases to do the cement up the road!

Colas Railfreight 56113, running slightly ahead of time, reverberates north with a Crewe - Settle Junction engineers train consisting of 14 JNA's.

*Thanks go to 'Swifty' for the heads up as regards the traction on this working.

LSL 47805 leads 47501 'Craftsman' through Red Bank, Newton-Le-Willows working 1Z56 Kingussie - Crewe.

GB Railfreight celeb shed 66718 'Sir Peter Hendy' passes Askham Bar (York) working 6D35 Port Clarence - Doncaster Down Decoy with 2 Greenergy tanks on the back.

Colas Rail 56094 and 56096 shatter the peace as they pass through Gregson Lane working 6E32 Colas Ribble Rail - Lindsey Oil Refinery with the tanks. July 26th 2018.

Having attempted the shot the previous week only for the remnants of the passing cloud front to do me, it was nice to finally get this one in the bag.

With the grass getting a bit too high further up the bank, I headed down the hill for an immaculately turned out 86259 'Les Ross'/'Peter Pan' flying through Red Bank working 1Z86 London Euston - Carlisle with the railway Touring Company's 'Cumbrian Mountain Express', on which this loco is a regular performer. 14th July, 2018.

Out on the shimmering waves, the Irish Ferries Dublin Swift and the Dublin Port Company pilot boat DPC glide past each other in a cheerful maritime dance. The Dublin Swift, with its sleek white hull and bold green lettering, looks like a proud ambassador of the sea, while the vibrant orange pilot boat zips alongside, ready to guide the way. It’s a delightful sight, as if the two are exchanging a friendly wave before going about their important duties!

The Dublin Swift, launched in 2001, is a high-speed ferry known for its impressive 48-knot top speed, whisking up to 800 passengers between Dublin and Holyhead in just under two hours. This modern marvel, operated by Irish Ferries, has been a favorite for travelers seeking a quick and scenic crossing, carrying a mix of cars, trucks, and eager explorers. Its history includes a refit in 2019 to enhance passenger comfort, making it a beloved vessel on this busy Irish Sea route.

Meanwhile, the Dublin Port pilot boat DPC plays a crucial role in ensuring safe navigation. These agile boats, often reaching speeds of 25-30 knots, ferry skilled pilots to incoming and outgoing ships, guiding them through the tricky waters of Dublin Bay. With Dublin Port handling over 32 million tonnes of goods annually, the pilot boat’s importance can’t be overstated—it’s the unsung hero keeping the maritime traffic flowing smoothly, all while sporting that eye-catching orange hue!

DB Cargo 67005 'Queen's Messenger' arrives and stands at Warrington Bank Quay for a crew change working 1Z20 from Manchester Victoria to Cardiff with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on board the royal train behind. 67006 'Royal Sovereign' on the tail end. The working originated the previous evening from London Euston, heading north to Mossend and onwards to Edinburgh. The move stopped off at Berwick today, heading south to Batley with a stopover in Marsden before arriving into Manchester Victoria for the final engagement of the day. The train is seen here on its final run of the day down to South Wales ahead of tomorrows proceedings. 7/12/20

TARGET VIII: VANQUO

Rock and his men moved through the tunnels swifty, hunting the for any leftover minerals that could be put to use in the empire's war machine. Just as they came across a dead end, a mando came running at them with a vibroblade. Before rock could even react, another gilded towards them with a jet pack. The mando with the knife ran at one of rock's solders, and plunged his vibroblade through his chest. "Serves the non-clone right .", through rock. the mando with a jetpack then chot the other trooper and slammed his fist into his face, knocking him out...

Rail Operations Group 37800 'Cassiopeia' passes Winwick Junction with Abellio Greater Anglia 317443 in tow working 5Q50 Kilmarnock Bonnyton Depot - Wolverton Centre Sidings. The move will continue onwards to Illford tomorrow.

I took a number of shots of the flock of dozens of Swift Parrots in flight, but they always seemed to manage to make it mostly out of the frame by the time I hit the shutter! They're called Swifties for a reason! :-) It's imperfect, but I'm sharing this photo because the birds are so beautiful and so rare; and it's interesting to see them as they look with their wings spread. They are intensely colourful birds from any angle!

One of the smartest looking class 66s on the mainline, GB Railfreight 66727 'Maritime One' trundles through Moore on 6S94 Wembley EFOC - Irvine Caledonian Paper. 6/5/18

DB Cargo 'Switch On To Safety' livery 60007 'The Spirit of Tom Kendall' leads fellow celebrity 66136 in its Yiwu - London China train promotional livery through Daresbury working 6H02 Arpley Sidings - Tunstead Sidings empty stone. 26/9/18

small town. first the creamie stand folds next door. never great creamies (spellcheck keeps changing that to “preemies”) and their burgers were predictably sub-par but it was more about the hangout factor. we all loved the place. but the owner's kids weren't interested in the upkeep and, like everything else here, public support is defined as affording the product and not doing the dirty work, so no one else was interested either. eventually, the happiness structure buckled. about the gas pumps, the guy taking our credit cards was ripping the place off. i used to be overly friendly to him at the pool every summer…..next town over. so much for loving the little guy. maybe we deserve the friggin corporates.

Working the Royal Scotsman's annual tour of Britain, GB Railfreight 66746 leads the Royal Scotsman charter rake and 66743 through Winwick Junction working 1Z76 Edinburgh - Chester. 7/6/19

The Fifty Fund's GBRf liveried 50049 'Defiance' and 50007 'Hercules' shatter the peace as they storm through Keckwick, Moore, running 3 minutes early working 1Z52 Appleby - Didcot Parkway with the return of Pathfinder Railtours 'The Cotswold Eden' charter. August 26th 2019.

With driver Steven at the helm, the 50s made a fine noise as the pair hammered up the bank towards Weaver Jn and would give the nearby Creamfields festival a run for its money!

DRS 68034 leads classmate 68034 through Grange-Over-Sands just as some squiff began to detract from the sun on 0K73 (vice 6K73) Sellafield BNF - Crewe Coal Siding.

Bit of a disappointment on this one, no load and the hopes of a lash up was sadly dashed when a pair came into view but still a reasonable effort. Sun just a touch too low at this point.

"But if I just showed up at your party

Would you have me? Would you want me?

Would you tell me to go fuck myself

Or lead me to the garden?

In the garden, would you trust me

If I told you it was just a summer thing?

I'm only seventeen, I don't know anything

But I know I miss you..."

GB Railfreight 66747 passes Acton Bridge working 6V35 Clitheroe Castle Cement - Avonmouth Hanson Sidings in a brief patch of sun.

On the hottest day of 2019, Colas Railfreight 56049 'Robin of Templecombe' leads weathered class mate 56087 through Lostock Hall working 6E32 Colas Ribble Rail - Lindsey Oil Refinery. 25th July, 2019.

DRS 66426 leads 6K05 Carlisle Yard - Crewe Basford Hall passed Moore Ln. Light is just about round enough for this shot at this time of year.

Having been held between Thirsk and Skelton Jn until almost an hour late due to disruption, Colas Rail 56302 'Peco' trundles into York with the sun now dropping quickly with 6Z56 Barassie Yard - Rotherham Booths conveying PCA for scrap. 27/2/19

This ones been tarted up a bit in PS to try and improve the shadows and remove the ones on the 56.

Having waited near 2 hours for this to turn up on a bitter York afternoon, the gallery was pretty peaved when it rolled down 5 shortly after another 4 coaches of class 150 arrived to add to the shadows!

Another 90 shot!

DB 90019 'Multimodal' leads blue 90034 through Red Bank working 4M25 Mossend Euroterminal - Daventry IRFT, just prior to its lengthy stop at Warrington Bank Quay where the train remained for around 2hrs due to a multiple working fault. 90019 continued solo with 90034 dead behind to Daventry where 90034 then led 4S47 as far as Warrington where a 66 was attached to get it back north for attention.

Irish Ferries "Dublin Swift " on its afternoon from Dublin to Holyhead, a swift 135 minutes from end to end.

Looking smart with an almost full rake of Pullmans and 47804 on the rear, WCRC 47826 gives it the beans through Winwick working 1Z13 Llandudno - Stevenage in some excellent bank holiday sunshine. 7/5/18

Having sat behind a tamper from Acton Bridge, EWS livery 90039 approaches Acton Grange Jn at an unusually sedate pace working 3P51 from Crewe CS - Blackpool North on a training run for Grand Central. 20/3/20

Having just missed it on Monday by a matter of seconds, I was very pleased when the sun emerged just in the nick of time. With both shots of the morning being very tight on getting the light, I think I've used my luck up for the foreseeable!

The first sunny shot I've taken in weeks, Freightliner 86610 leads 86627 through Weaverham working 4K64 Garston FLT - Crewe Basford Hall in a small gap in the squiff.

Starting 2020 off right with a night time 'dyson'!

Cally Sleeper liveried 92038 passes through Warrington Bank Quay one minute into January 6th 2020 working 1S25 London Euston - Inverness as far as Edinburgh.

The shot was taken during an arranged visit and isn't normally possible. 6/1/20

Following a short stop in the loop just south of the station to allow some passenger services through, DC Rail's 56103 and 56091 shatter the peace as the driver throttles up the Ruston-Paxman engine passing Chapel Lane, Acton Bridge working 6Z55 Chaddesden Sidings - Carlisle Kingmoor V.Q.

Quite the sight and sound as they passed!!

20th May, 2019.

DB Schenker livery 66152 'Derek Holmes' leads 6M90 Bescot Down Siding - Clitheroe Castle Cement. Having done 4M27 at Daresbury I got here with seconds to spare just as it rolled into frame!

Recently returned to traffic after its long stint stuffed and mounted at Ilford as a carriage heater, blue 90034 is seen tucked inside DB red 90019 'Multimodal' working 4M25 Mossend Euroterminal - Daventry IRFT through Chapel Lane, Acton Bridge on a scorching 29th may 2020.

Running about 24 minutes late and in 27 degree heat, Direct Rail Services 57304 'Pride Of Cheshire' powers through Moore with 5Z40 Preston - Kidderminster SVR with 57303 'Pride of Carlisle' on the rear.

Bit of a gamble going here because the frame is quite tight and the other shot at Moore is too full of corn plants to even get a look in but i'm very pleased with this one.

After photographing the grids at Gregson Lane I turned off on the way home to finally tick this shot off the 'to do' list, DB 90040 and 90028 work 4M25 Mossend - Daventry through Red Bank on a sweltering August morning.

News filtered through late afternoon (thanks Swifty) that TPE 68032 'Destroyer' was on the point of 6K05, the daily Carlisle - Crewe engineers train.

Quite why it was the selected motive power I do not know but it was certainly something different.

This location is walking distance from home and the light is right for the passing of 6K05 @ 16.54.

Making a rare appearance on an engineers, Direct Rail Services 37424 ‘Avro Vulcan XH558’ is seen passing Warrington Bank Quay with failed classmate 37422 and a lengthy train of track panels in tow working 6C57 Millom - Crewe Basford Hall. 13/1/19
