Work stained GB Railfreight 60056 rumbles through Acton Bridge with the early running 6E10 Liverpool Bulk Terminal - Drax AES with driver Nige happy in his work at the helm. 2nd October, 2019.

Railfreight Class 20s on freight on the low level, blast from the past or what!

On hire to DCR, HNRC 20118 'Saltburn-by-the-sea' leads 20132 'Barrow Hill Depot' pass through the Forest of Arpley working 6Z21 Ellesmere Port Manistry Wharf - Garston T.C. with an IVA twin set in tow from store.

The working interestingly ran via Latchford Sidings and the Arpley - Ditton line providing some rare daylight interest.

Making a welcome change from the usual GB Railfreight corporate livery 66/7, London Transport 66718 'Sir Peter Hendy' applies the power passing Chapel Lane, Acton Bridge on an additional 6V35 Clitheroe Castle Cement - Avonmouth Hanson Sidings. March 28th 2019.

going around my area with my scooter

GB Railfreight 66725 'Sunderland' tops a very lightly loaded 6V35 Clitheroe Castle Cement - Avonmouth Hansons at Moore. Apparently the remainder of the consist was held at Clitheroe owing to wheel flats. 22/2/19

Not wishing to be outdone by DCR in providing grid based interest in Cheshire, Colas have kindly provided a pair of 56s vice class 70 for this weeks logger. The pairing of 56090 and 56049 'Robin Of Templecombe' are seen passing through Winwick Junction working the annoyingly retimed 6J37 Carlisle Yard - Chirk Kronospan loaded logs. May 21st 2019.

Having heard the night before of the 'grids' allocation, I was thinking I'd be almost spoiled for choice on where to go for them. If I didn't have an exam on Friday then I was certainly considering a chase down from the S&C but locally there's at least 4 shots on. However, I shortly after learnt that it would be running on the VAR 11.02 path from Carlisle, expected in to the Warrington area at just before 4pm. This meant every sun on the nose location within a 30/40 minute drive was majorly head on, so backlit Winwick had to do. Fingers crossed the pairing stick around for a while!

I'm here to apply for the Doug contract. You don't need any loud beaked hawk brothers from the east for this job. I'm saying, hire local for a quick and much cheaper end to your problem and I can take that Minn. job and share the $$$ with you. Call me.

Making it's second appearance on a charter since returning to the mainline with Saphos Trains (LSL), D213 'Andania' arrives at Warrington Bank Quay working 1Z48 Stratford-Upon-Avon - Preston 'The William Shakespeare' Railtour. 47805 'Roger Hosking MA' was on the rear, 47853 sadly failed earlier in the day, leading to the 40 running as cover from Crewe. 8/9/18

BR Green 37057 stands at York with a UTU set awaiting time working 3Q96 York Thrall Europa - York Thrall Europa via Scarborough, Hull and Selby.

20th November 2019.

Of note, the loco is now fitted with dominoes on both ends as a result of one of its glass headcode panels being smashed whilst it was pretending to be the NMT. In addition, the much-maligned by enthusiasts purple barrier coaches look to be coming towards the end of their hire with vehicles from Caledonian Sleeper at Derby RTC ready for conversion into test stock so I was pleased to record one in traffic.

On hire to GB Railfreight, Freightliner 90048 hammers through Warrington Bank Quay working 1S25 London Euston - Edinburgh. Bit of an uncommon shot, normally WBQ is closed when the sleepers come through, but with a VAR path meaning the working passed around 25 minutes early it was just about possible before the station shut.

If anyone fancies a crack, the only time you stand a chance is a Sunday night (if you speak nicely to the station staff!) when it passes as 00:01, 5 minutes after the last train.

30466 BRC WAP7 hauled VR BL Shuttle swifty swoops past in a rainy day

Another old one I've dug out to avoid doing uni work, featuring another mainline favourite. Under a threatening sky, preserved large logo 'tractor' 37025 'Inverness TMD' powers through Warrington Bank Quay working the delayed 3Q26 Crewe CS - Longsight via the North West. 37607 was originally due to work this but due to issues on the inbound working, it was swapped for '025. 24th July 2018.

Running 23 minutes early, 37402 'Stephen Middlemore 1954-2013' shatters the peace at Warrington Bank Quay with classmate 37409 'Lord Hinton' on the rear working 1Z83 Carnforth HS - Derby RTC. 29/3/19

Driver Anthony put on a cracking show, taking full advantage of the recently cleared signal having followed a pendolino. Luckily, the camera just about managed!

On the first weekend of WCRC haulage of the Belle, West Coast Railways 57316 leads the Northern Belle working 1Z61 Chester - Liverpool Lime Street at Winwick Jn with 57313 on the rear. 14/4/18

Colas Rail 56096 leads a Railvac and 70812 through Warrington Bank Quay with the early running 6X52 Crewe Basford Hall S.S.M - Bamfurlong Jn for a possession. 6/9/19

I was surprised to see the locos just top and tailing the railvac with no ballast wagons either side, not sure if this is now common practice?

Yet another shot from Winwick, sorry!

DRS 88001 'Revolution' passes Winwick Junction working 4Z48 Mossend Euroterminal - Daventry IRFT. Having spent the day at a cloudy Delamere, I was quite amazed that Warrington was full sun with the cloud and thick squiff holding off for just long enough.

The following morning on the return to Mossend (4S43), 'Revolution' chucked its toys out the pram at Hartford Jn, with 88002 coming to rescue it.

Transpennine Express 68030 'Black Douglas' stands at York working 1E51 from Liverpool Lime Street to Scarborough.

I can see why these don't need a yellow end, the lights on these are unbelievably bright!!

21st October 2019.

Direct Rail Services 57301 'Goliath' leads the full Northern Belle stock and 57303 'Pride of Carlisle' through Newton-Le-Willows working 1Z57 Chester to Manchester Piccadilly via Frodsham Jn, Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly then onto Macclesfield and back via Stafford and Shrewsbury.

Colas Rail 37521 storms out of York with some impressive thrash working 1Q64 Derby RTC - Neville Hill T&RSMD with 37099 'Merl Evans' on the rear. Unfortunately, the driver parked the loco just passed the bridge meaning there wasn't much worth having so a moving shot was in order.

Recently returned to traffic after a period stopped at Crewe IEMD, an immaculate 90036 'Driver Jack Mills' stands at Warrington Bank Quay for a crew change with Malcolm livery 90024 behind working 4S47 Daventry IRFT - Mossend Euroterminal.

GB Railfreight 60095 passes Winwick working the Saturday only 6E17 Liverpool Biomass Terminal - Drax AES loaded biomass.

May 30th, 2020.

Quite a gallery was here but social distancing was followed well, good job this shot can accommodate quite a few!

Still clinging onto Triple Grey livery, GB Railfreight 'Couperin' flies through Warrington Bank Quay working 1S25 from London Euston as far as Edinburgh.

Photo taken during an arranged visit. 7/1/18 (Just!)

DRS 88006 'Juno' flies through Moore working 4M48 Mossend Euroterminal - Daventry IRFT with an intermodal for Stobart Rail. Nice to finally get a shot of 4M48 in the low evening sunlight.

My last railway shot for I imagine quite a long time! GB Railfreight 60085 'Adept' passes the few socially distanced spotters on the hill at Winwick working 6E10 Liverpool Biomass Terminal - Drax AES.

Tug 85 is something of a personal pest, I think this is about my 6th or 7th shot of it in Colas/ex Colas!

GB Railfreight 66709 'Sorrento' leads 6M90 Avonmouth Hanson - Clitheroe Castle Cement through Moore, Warrington.

At this time of year, the sun is just scraping the front.

With the slight easing of restrictions and good weather forecast, I dragged myself out of bed for a change and had a walk around Moore nature reserve down the road.

Recently returned to traffic with Colas Rail, immaculate 56049 'Robin of Templecombe' leads faded classmate 56094 through Cherry Tree, Blackburn, working the slightly delayed 6E32 Colas Ribble Rail - Lindsey Oil Refinery. 28/1/19

With a few dregs of cloud lingering around 37424 'Avro Vulcan XH558' trundles through Haverigg on the back of 2C48 Carlisle - Lancaster.

Preserved class 40s 40145 and 40106 'Atlantic Conveyor' pass Moore working 0Z46 Crewe H.S. - Bury E.L.R. CFPS 40145 began its journey at Barrow Hill yesterday, taking LSL 37190 to Kidderminster S.V.R. and picking up 40106. The working being crewed by LSL. 22/7/20

Lucky with the light for a change!

GB Railfreight Caledonian Sleeper liveried 92010 powers through Warrington Bank Quay working 1M16 Inverness - London Euston a mere 109 minutes late, passing at 0654 due to an overhead wire problem at Golborne Jn (between Wigan and Warrington). 6/3/18

My asian urban exploration on my Swifty Scooter

This is a spring I discovered while exploring Swift Creek near the Suwannee River outside of White Springs. It is a very small sulfur spring that may be of very little note in the grand scheme but of which i was proud to uncover since as far as I am aware it is not on a state ledger. This shot shows very wall the porous karst landscape typical of the waterways in the area. It is possible that this is a relatively new flow, which is not uncommon when an active aquifer bores a new opening to the surface.

47810 (D1924) 'Crewe Diesel Depot' making a fine sight and sound flying up the bank at Daresbury working 1Z46 Preston - Stratford on Avon with Saphos Trains "The William Shakespeare" on 13 April 2019.

Nowhere near as good as I had hoped, but with the shot of the bank not clear and with my ladders at home it was a bit. of a. make do and mend effort.

Did you catch the swifty reference?

News filtered through (thanks Swifty) that Colas 66849 had problems at Carlisle and DRS 66305 had been hired in as its replacement. Departure from Kingmoor Yard was 84L and that was more or less still the case as it passed me at Golborne Dale this evening.

Very poor light, uploaded for the record, I vaguely remember this happening before but cannot put a date on it.

* Pole @ 7m.

One of the rarer examples of the Colas Rail 56 fleet in Cheshire, 56094 passes through Warrington Bank Quay with 6C57 Crewe Basford Hall SSM - Preston via Carnforth D&UGL with a loaded rail train for a rail drop at Preston. 7/3/18

Colas Rail 56087 passes through Warrington Bank Quay on the slightly delayed 6C57 Crewe Basford Hall - Morecambe South Jn rail train. Bit grainy on the loco as I was a frame premature where the focus point wasn't quite right so had to sharpen a touch.

In some very hit and miss lighting, DRS 66431 leads 66304 on 4S43 Daventry IRFT - Mossend Euroterminal at Moore lane, a.k.a 'Terry's Bridge'. The locos were standing in for the usual 88 as the working is being diverted tomorrow due to engineering work just up the line at Weaver Jn.

In some brilliant clear lighting, DB Cargo 90036 'Driver Jack Mills' leads classmate 90040 through Winwick Junction working the slightly delayed 4M25 Mossend Euroterminal - Daventry IRFT intermodal service for Malcolm Logistics. 29/11/19

Still sporting the debranded livery of its former owner Colas Rail, GB Railfreight 60021 'Bustler' passes Colton Jn working 6N45 Drax AES - Tyne Coal terminal with empty biomass wagons in tow. 25/9/18

My first shot from over the pennines, big thanks to Tom for the lift.

Still in its as built triple grey livery, GBRf 92044 'Couperin' powers through Moore with Revised GB Railfreight livery 66724 'Drax Power Station' in tow on the very late 6S94 Wembley EFOC - Irvine Caledonian Paper.

The working was 163 late passing Moore following yet another wagon related stop over at Bletchley. Beginning to think they must have got a wheel check as an early christmas present considering every time the working has ran recently it's been stopped.

Awful conditions but after getting denied 37057 yesterday due to DB's 6Z15 failing it more than make up for it.

Direct Rail Services 57303 'Pride of Carlisle' leading the immaculate rake of Northern Belle coaches and 57312 'Solway Princess' through Winwick Jn working 5Z57 Carnforth Steamtown to Kidderminster SVR.

With the wires having come down in the Euxton area, both 1M11 and 1M16 Caledonian Sleepers were cancelled at Preston due to class 92s not being cleared via Bolton. Having sat in the Leyland area for 4 hours, 5M11 to Wembley ICD is seen flying through Moore lane with a grubby 92043 at the helm.

Colas Rail 37219 'Jonty Jarvis' rather disappointingly leads 1Q44 Crewe CS - Crewe CS along the CLC line at Warrington Central with classmate 37099 'Merl Evans' on the rear. With the shakeup of test train operations meaning the intrusion of DRS 37s and drivers from DB and FL to name a couple now involved, it is a case of catch them while you can because who knows what they may bring next...

Still sporting full EWS livery, DB Cargo 90035 pauses at Warrington Bank Quay for a crew change working 6X77 Dagenham Dock - Mossend with loaded cars. 90035 is a regular on this flow, practically bolted to the circuit having not worked 4M25 for months.
