L’église Saint-Michel, située dans le secteur sauvegardé de Dijon, est une église du XVIe siècle célèbre par sa façade Renaissance, considérée comme l'une des plus belles de France.
La façade principale est unique en son genre par le mélange entre le style gothique et celui de la Renaissance, ce qui est dû à la date de construction de l'église. La coexistence de ces deux styles architecturaux peut être expliquée par l'importance que prend l'art architectural en Bourgogne au XVIe siècle avec le retour des formes antiques et l'influence de l'art italien. L'abside, le chœur, la nef et le transept sont gothiques ; la nef est bâtie de 1511 à 1525. Les travaux de la façade s'arrêtèrent après 1570 et ne reprirent que vers 1650. La tour sud, ou de droite, fut achevée en 1659 ; la tour nord en 1667. Leurs ornements avec la superposition des trois ordres (dorique, ionique et corinthien) sont d'inspiration Renaissance.
The Saint-Michel church, located in the protected area of Dijon, is a 16th-century church famous for its Renaissance façade, considered one of the most beautiful in France. The main façade is unique in its kind due to the mixture of Gothic and Renaissance styles, which is due to the date of construction of the church. The coexistence of these two architectural styles can be explained by the importance of architectural art in Burgundy in the 16th century with the return of ancient forms and the influence of Italian art. The apse, the choir, the nave and the transept are Gothic; the nave was built from 1511 to 1525. Work on the façade stopped after 1570 and did not resume until around 1650. The south or right tower was completed in 1659; the north tower in 1667. Their ornaments with the superposition of the three orders (Doric, Ionic and Corinthian) are of Renaissance inspiration.
My montage today was inspired by the art of Rene Shute, but all elements are my own photographs. It features a beautiful old clock you can see in downtown Vallejo on Georgia Street, which people call “The Alibi Clock”.
Back in 1916 there was a pipe bomb explosion in San Francisco that killed 10 people. Labor leaders Thomas Mooney and Warren Billings were arrested. During their trial, one of the key pieces of evidence pointing towards Mooney’s innocence was a photograph of him with a large public clock in the background. Although the clock was not in Vallejo at the time, neither was it anywhere near the explosion. In spite of that, Mooney was convicted and sentenced to hang – apparently in an incident proving Erwin Schrödinger’s theory of superposition, with Mr. Mooney being in two places at the same time.
Fortunately, the “Alibi Clock” piece of evidence enabled a reassessment of the case some years later, and a pardon was granted.

Long exposure of Ferris Wheel De Pier atop the pier at Scheveningen at night, during which the wheel ground to a halt, capturing the 36 still, illuminated gondolas. The 40m-high Ferris wheel claims to be Europe’s first Ferris Wheel over the sea.

It's a polaroid + superposition of a transparent paper that was on a wedding invitation card. I don't usually do this but I darkened the photo digitally so that the texture could be enhanced.

"A compound eye may consist of thousands of individual photoreception units. The image perceived is a combination of inputs from the numerous ommatidia (individual "eye units"), which are located on a convex surface, thus pointing in slightly different directions. Compared with simple eyes, compound eyes possess a very large view angle, and can detect fast movement and, in some cases, the polarization of light. Because the individual lenses are so small, the effects of diffraction impose a limit on the possible resolution that can be obtained. This can only be countered by increasing lens size and number — to see with a resolution comparable to our simple eyes, humans would require compound eyes which would each reach the size of their head.
Compound eyes fall into two groups: apposition eyes, which form multiple inverted images, and superposition eyes, which form a single erect image. Compound eyes are common in arthropods, and are also present in annelids and some bivalved molluscs.
Compound eyes, in arthropods at least, grow at their margins by the addition of new ommatidia."

This is a downstream view of the river Adda before sunrise, westward. The pale light beyond the hills was behind my back, announcing the sunrise.
The river was flowing quietly and a layer of milky mist floated above the water, in the distance. The poplars along the riverside were parading their new buds and the hillside were graced by the white flowers of the wild cherries. On top of the hill lays the familiar shape of the sanctuary of the Madonna della Rocca ( = Madonna of the Rock), already brushed by the first light pouring from the Eastern horizon, hidden behind the low hills.
It was a sweet, lonely view. But I could feel the silent breath of the dawn behind me, whispering in the backyard of my mind: "You'll never walk alone".
I am a bit doubtful about the result of the processing of this -1.7/0/1.7 ev bracketing. This appears to be the last act of a slightly tormented route, being a bw version with a slight superposition of the colour version, just to hint to the wide range of greens. Plus a slight dark vignetting.
I am a bit perplexed about this image because - I do not know how to say... - it is as if the image has led me towards this final result. I hope that she is right :-); however, comments and constructive criticism will be even more welcome than usual.
In playing with making simple superpositions in photoshop, it's been amazing to discover how so many of my images echo the form of this particular spiderweb that was laid over them. Art really does imitate nature.

Edifiée au 17e siècle pour les Dominicaines, la chapelle Sainte-Catherine a connu d’importantes modifications de ses décors intérieurs et de son mobilier en devenant, au début du 19e siècle, la chapelle de l’Hôpital de Dinan. Remarquablement
conservées, sa façade principale et son architecture d’ensemble offrent un bel exemple d’église monastique issue de la Contre-Réforme.
La façade principale de la chapelle s’inspire fortement dans ses décors et son organisation de l’église Saint-Gervais Saint-Protais de Paris, érigée entre 1616 et 1621 à partir d’un dessin attribué à Salomon de Brosse. Pour autant, la chapelle dinannaise s’affranchit de certains canons du classicisme français : à la
superposition traditionnelle des ordres dorique, ionique et corinthien, l’architecte Poussin fait le choix de remplacer les colonnes doriques et ioniques des deux premiers registres par des colonnes toscanes, plus épurées. En revanche, contrairement au modèle parisien, des obélisques composent le dernier registre.
Dans les niches, trois statues de terre-cuite, datant de la fin du 19e siècle, figurent Saint Vincent de Paul, l’Immaculée Conception et Saint Thomas de Villeneuve.
Built in the 17th century for the Dominican nuns, the Sainte-Catherine chapel underwent significant alterations to its interior decoration and furnishings when it became the chapel of the Dinan Hospital at the beginning of the 19th century. Remarkably well-preserved, its main façade and overall architecture offer a fine example of a monastic church stemming from the Counter-Reformation.
The chapel's main façade draws heavily on the decoration and layout of the Church of Saint-Gervais Saint-Protais in Paris, erected between 1616 and 1621 based on a design attributed to Salomon de Brosse. However, the Dinan chapel departs from certain canons of French classicism: instead of the traditional superimposition of the Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian orders, the architect Poussin chose to replace the Doric and Ionic columns of the first two registers with more streamlined Tuscan columns. In contrast to the Parisian model, obelisks make up the uppermost tier.
In the niches, three terracotta statues, dating from the late 19th century, depict Saint Vincent de Paul, the Immaculate Conception, and Saint Thomas of Villeneuve.
