This tiny island of La Digue; which can be covered by bicycle in an hour; has amazing potential of photography. The trick is to spend a bit longer, as the weather is pretty tropical. So you can sometime have spectacular sunset and sunrise. You can also have spectacular thunder storm with no real photo opportunities. All these can happen very quickly. So you have to be ready. That means; rain or not; you shout go to the location and wait. A good waterproof camera bag is extremely useful in such cases or you can simple put the bag into a plastic bag; which is better water protected and way cheaper.
You wouldn't really feel bad of being soaked with the rain water. It is actually a great fun. Something that is not very normal in the part of the world I live recently. So I went out for every sunset and sunrise. It was great fun even when I didn't manage to even take my camera out. Only that cycling in pouring rain was an experience in itself. However; I had to pack my camera bag very well to make sure there is no way for water to go inside. The tropical downpour can be really heavy and in matter of seconds it can convert your camera or lens in a coffee cup. So extreme care has to be taken. It is not hard; but very important. However it was worth the effort. I sometime got that spectacular light as well.
Seychells; specially La Digue is not anymore like it was few years before. It has increased in popularity. So whatever you do; go to the photo location early and secure your place. In some places like this one; you can only set one tripod. So if you are not early enough and another photographer has the same idea; you are doomed for that evening. It happened to me few times in some other photo locations. But the other photographer was even earlier than me!
Now enough of story; back to this image. It was a lovely evening with cloud gathering towards the horizon. So as always I was there couple of hours before the sunset. Captured some drone shots and headed to this location. This is a beautiful rock that I had to climb and the location is spectacular as the entire La Digue. It is an extreme wide angle shot at 14 MM. The barrel distortion of the lens is very well controlled. You can see the Praslin island in the backdrop. My tripod was setup in a very delicate way with the legs kind of all over the place as there is no flat surface on that rock. So I just setup the tripod there and waited for the right moment to set the camera on top of it. At the right moment I was somehow balancing myself to stand there for few minutes and was keeping my hand close to one of the tripod legs. Just to make sure I would catch it if it falls. Yeh; I am confident on my catching ability with years of experience in cricket field. But it was still pretty risky move. But worth. At the right moment the cloud had a shape of atomic explosion and all those rays where stunningly beautiful. I captured few shots and moved to another location; which is normally very hidden for explorers like me. :)
Yes. I did spend a good amount of time looking for good photo locations and compositions. I did that during the day time while enjoying the warm water and bright sun. Did the same in pouring rain as well. So I was pretty much ready to jump to a place and I already knew the composition I had to make. That saved a lot of time as the sunset and sunrise normally happens very quickly in this part of the world with sun going up straight from the horizon. There is very little time to look for location and composition at the golden hour itself. So you need to be ready and when the time comes; you just click as you already made your composition beforehand as a preparation.
Ok. If you have already reached till here; may be you will be interested to see Seychelles in a bit more detail!

Caught on the hop tonight by the stunning sunset, we had driven most of the way back home when all of a sudden the sky went crazy and as many times before Shardlow came to my rescue....not the most original sunset capture of mine but at least I got a picture of it.

Without any clouds around for streaming, I only used the 9-stop filter here to get the exposure to 15 seconds at f11 in order to smooth out the slight ripples in the water to get a smoother reflection. The sunset there at this lake was fabulous ... and a good choice for that evening. After taking these sunset captures, it was back to Lake Mono where we stayed the night, and I was able to take the captures below in the comments.

There were some clouds to be seen above the wetland area of El. Franco Lee Park, but there too many down low on the horizon and they blocked the sun from working its magic on the higher clouds. The wetland area is in the flightpath of Hobby Airport, so there is usually one streaking through the captures on a regular basis. Sunset capture at the park.

I am always surprised that any photos come out when I shoot blind, out of a window. Out of focus, but the colors came through.

Tonight at Tempe Town Lake.
This is probably the prettiest sunset capture I've ever taken of this lake. It was just filled back up with water in the past week or so. My friend, Sean (dacoach89_89), happened to be in town. He was there with his camera too! Very nice time!

A sunset capture form El. Franco Lee Park that never made its way into the photostream. Hopefully, a few warm clouds will brighten and warm your spirit for the day.
We spent that morning getting blanketed by a rare snow storm that left everything under a sheet of white. The snowfall stopped before noon and a majority of the snow is gone from the roadways. Those roadways could be quite treacherous this evening as the temperatures drop to 19ᴼF overnight. I know that some in the north will give a chuckle and say that they deal with temperatures like this on a daily basis, but we can go three or four years at a time before the temperatures drop below the freezing point here in the Houston area. Our infrastructure is just not set up to handle situations like this and so, it’s a bit of a challenge over the next 14 to 16 hours before eh temperatures get above freezing. We’ll be above freezing by 10 am tomorrow and everything should return to normal after that.
I did venture out to take some photos, but have not looked at those photos, but I am not noted for my snowscapes and am not certain that any will be posted. Just hoping that everyone stays save and warm from Texas to Florida.
Just a footnote about the decorative birds on the observation platform, they are not real, but are a part of the decorative handrail on the platform.
