A nice sunset, captured on my old but trusty Canon S100, one of the early prosumer compact camera pioneers. It's been superseded by iPhones but I still like using it.

It took me a while to get in sync with this Snowy Egret as he hunted just before sunset. Captured using manual focus.

The last 2 nights have seen me outside at sunset capturing the evening light. These reflections on the water were the beginning of a stunning sunset.

Happy Friday and hope you have a fun weekend!

Two golden hours somewhere between sunrise and sunset. Both are set with 60 diamond minutes. No reward is offered. They are gone forever.

If the tree branches could talk , I think they'd say to the sun, "Okay, gotcha!'

The orange in the center was reflection of the sun the Mississippi River... ; )

Have a wonderful day everybody!

We spent a down pouring sunset capturing these rivers and fissures. Skagsanden Beach, Flakstad Norway.

Most sunsets are golden. However, I decided to do an unusual makeover for this sunset capture. Can you let me know if it works for you, and what emotion does it evoke in you?

Location: Tidal pool at Camps Bay beach

Description: On Wednesday afternoon I met up with Neil from Alderney, who is in Cape Town on business this week. After showing him a couple of the (obligatory) tourist viewing points, we headed out to Camps Bay to shoot the sunset.

Capturing the best compositions sometimes does include the taking of risks. I immediately realized the potential of this low tidal pool wall… but I also immediately realized that there was a good chance that I would get caught unawares by a rogue wave. Should I take a chance…? Hell yes!!

Did I get wet…? Hell yes!!!

Tip: Just because the waves no longer appear to be breaking over the wet rocks that you’re standing on… doesn’t mean that you’re not going to get soaked!

Taken at the end of a long day a couple of weeks ago.

I wanted to post a sunset picture this morning, but I couldn’t quite make up my mind which one to post. This was taken during the same sunset captured here.

Work will keep me busy most of the day. I’ll try to make my rounds later this evening.

Happy Monday!

Sunset Grackles - Florida Everglades U.S.A.

*[I knew there was something about this image that I liked but

I couldn't quite put my finger on it; this simple-sunset-capture

seems to have 'six' layers/levels to it!; the river, the sawgrass,

the birds, the sun, the clouds, and the high-sky/sunrays. Cool!]

Clear Winter Sky - Boat-tailed Grackles

South Florida - Palm Beach County, FL

Boat-tailed Grackles are large, lanky songbirds with rounded crowns, long legs, and fairly long, pointed bills. Males have very long tails that make up almost half their body length and they typically hold them folded in a V-shape, like the keel of a boat.

The glossy blue-black males are hard to miss as they haul their ridiculously long tails around or display them from marsh grasses or trees. They are so common Everglades guides nicknamed them swamp rats! They are all over the Everglades! Fun to observe.

We were late for dinner. Actually, we decided to skip it altogether (oh the sacrifices that photogs must make). After letting our friends know we were not joining them at the (really good) restaurant, me and two other photogs decided to risk hanging out with the grizzly bears for a potential sunset capture. As usual, mother nature pretended to stymie our photo opportunity and the sky got dark. She is a sly one. As we turned dejectedly towards the parking lot, I noticed that the river looked a little red. Ah ha! In the brief moments that we had turned our faces, she pulled out her most brilliant hues! A few snaps later and I ended up with this fantastic almost-didn't-happen photo.

Beautiful sunset captured on Coney Island Beach, New York

A weekend closure of the Alaskan Way Viaduct allowed for this sunset capture of Mount Rainier framed by the Seattle Great Wheel and the roofs of CenturyLink and Safeco Fields.

This is the first of the crystal ball shots taken in Frankfurt last week. This one is more simple than the other two crystal ball images which remind me of x-mas somehow because of the many lights. This photo is a bit more atmospheric. I like the mood here.

In general it was not easy to place the crystal ball as there were no walls like in the Cologne crystal ball shot. The whole time I was expecting the crystal ball to fall down and break into 1.000.000 shards as it was very windy as well. A wall would have been so much easier.

Another perspective from this beautiful beach , I enjoyed this sunset by myself , i live for times like this .wait till you see what the sky looked like after the sun set .. one of my most amazing sunset captures i have to say..

Thanks for taking the time to view this and leave your feedback , much appreciated.

Long Exposure at sunset. Had to set the ISO to 800 for this one as I did not have a 10 stop and the 16 stop Firecrest filter was far to much and setting the Iso to 800 meant I could capture this at around the 2 minute mark.

My last summer sunset. Captured on the banks of the River Mourne, Porthall, Lifford, County Donegal, Ireland

This was one of the most amazingly red sunsets id ever seen, I think since the entire sky was darkened with so many rain clouds that it amplified the redness especially in the centre of the image just where the sun is setting

Caught on the hop tonight by the stunning sunset, we had driven most of the way back home when all of a sudden the sky went crazy and as many times before Shardlow came to my rescue....not the most original sunset capture of mine but at least I got a picture of it.

This tiny island of La Digue; which can be covered by bicycle in an hour; has amazing potential of photography. The trick is to spend a bit longer, as the weather is pretty tropical. So you can sometime have spectacular sunset and sunrise. You can also have spectacular thunder storm with no real photo opportunities. All these can happen very quickly. So you have to be ready. That means; rain or not; you shout go to the location and wait. A good waterproof camera bag is extremely useful in such cases or you can simple put the bag into a plastic bag; which is better water protected and way cheaper.

You wouldn't really feel bad of being soaked with the rain water. It is actually a great fun. Something that is not very normal in the part of the world I live recently. So I went out for every sunset and sunrise. It was great fun even when I didn't manage to even take my camera out. Only that cycling in pouring rain was an experience in itself. However; I had to pack my camera bag very well to make sure there is no way for water to go inside. The tropical downpour can be really heavy and in matter of seconds it can convert your camera or lens in a coffee cup. So extreme care has to be taken. It is not hard; but very important. However it was worth the effort. I sometime got that spectacular light as well.

Seychells; specially La Digue is not anymore like it was few years before. It has increased in popularity. So whatever you do; go to the photo location early and secure your place. In some places like this one; you can only set one tripod. So if you are not early enough and another photographer has the same idea; you are doomed for that evening. It happened to me few times in some other photo locations. But the other photographer was even earlier than me!

Now enough of story; back to this image. It was a lovely evening with cloud gathering towards the horizon. So as always I was there couple of hours before the sunset. Captured some drone shots and headed to this location. This is a beautiful rock that I had to climb and the location is spectacular as the entire La Digue. It is an extreme wide angle shot at 14 MM. The barrel distortion of the lens is very well controlled. You can see the Praslin island in the backdrop. My tripod was setup in a very delicate way with the legs kind of all over the place as there is no flat surface on that rock. So I just setup the tripod there and waited for the right moment to set the camera on top of it. At the right moment I was somehow balancing myself to stand there for few minutes and was keeping my hand close to one of the tripod legs. Just to make sure I would catch it if it falls. Yeh; I am confident on my catching ability with years of experience in cricket field. But it was still pretty risky move. But worth. At the right moment the cloud had a shape of atomic explosion and all those rays where stunningly beautiful. I captured few shots and moved to another location; which is normally very hidden for explorers like me. :)

Yes. I did spend a good amount of time looking for good photo locations and compositions. I did that during the day time while enjoying the warm water and bright sun. Did the same in pouring rain as well. So I was pretty much ready to jump to a place and I already knew the composition I had to make. That saved a lot of time as the sunset and sunrise normally happens very quickly in this part of the world with sun going up straight from the horizon. There is very little time to look for location and composition at the golden hour itself. So you need to be ready and when the time comes; you just click as you already made your composition beforehand as a preparation.

Ok. If you have already reached till here; may be you will be interested to see Seychelles in a bit more detail!
