A great morning out with Brad Eide and Terry Roberts for sunrise in the Lakes, this wasn't a planned location this morning but after the sun had risen and we had exhausted the previous spot we decided to give this a go as it would take the sun a while longer to rise over the Mountains so we should have still have some mist that hadn't been yet been burnt off.
When we got to the top here there was still mist but the light wasn't the best and what we had hoped for. However as usual if you just wait around sometimes things change up a gear and breifly we got light cascading down on Rydal Water through the mist that was now been burnt away. I'd already shot this scene with some nice light on it a short while before and though that was that so I had moved, but luckily I kept looking back and saw this happening so I up again quickly, reframed, and managed to capture it before it vanished.
A good mornings shoot, and all before breakfast, which vanished almost as quickly as this light did!

When you come right down to it all you have is yourself. The sun is a thousand rays in your belly. All the rest is nothing
Since three weeks I am travelling through the Dolomites, and yes they are smashing. Everyday it is hiking, making pictures, travelling, and being very active and until now I am lucky to have only a few days of bad weather. I probably will stay another two weeks since the autumn is not at its height, but the larix trees are now starting to get yellow, a wonderful sight.
This shot was on my first day in the Dolomites. A long and friendly walk along the Seiser Alm. It might be one of my best shots, but back home I will have to sort out from I guess around 4000 pictures. Have a nice weekend.
Early morning at the beach with waves and rain clouds in the sky from Killcare Beach on the Central Coast, NSW, Australia.
The quest is finally over... my final species of grasshopper and bush cricket from the British list, and what a beauty it is. This is the rarest species too, and the only one not found in my home county of Dorset...which sort of explains why it took me 4 years to get a photo. It would have been longer if it had not been for some very helpful experts who happened to be on site at the same time.
The key to finding this species as with many Orthoptera is to listen for their song, in this case sounding like a freewheeling bicycle. Unfortunately this species only sings till midday and it was a long walk to the hidden valley in the South Downs where it still exists.
Archive shot taken @ St Ives, Bingley, WYorks, UK.
As I frequently use wide-angled lenses, I feel that my shots generally benefit from viewing after pressing L and here + F11 for maximum effect!!
To all who view and/or comment on my pix; each is a help and a pleasure in equal measure. Thank you.
