Elephants throw dirt on themselves to protect themselves from insects and as a bit of sunblock. My girlfriend captured this one doing just that at the back of her enclosure during a trip to Woburn Safari Park.

A beautiful, remote and culturally rich country infamous for its military regime, Myanmar (Burma) has in recent years been making small steps towards democracy, with the first democratically elected government in 2015, after more than half a century.
Modern conveniences, such as mobile-phone coverage and internet access, are now common, however for all the recent changes, Myanmar remains at heart a rural nation of traditional values - though one may have hard time to find someone among the younger generation without a smartphone or Facebook profile.
One will still encounter men wearing the sarong-like longyi and chewing betel nut, spitting the blood-red juice onto the ground, women with faces smothered in thanakha (a natural sunblock), and cheroot-smoking grannies. Trishaws still ply city streets, while the horse or bullock and cart is common rural transport.

We carefully planned our 3-weeks long Burmese adventure around 6-days long hiking trip in the remote Chin state, where we commenced our journey in the hilltop settlement of Mindat, and subsequently hiked for four days across ethnic minority villages using old footpaths and mule trails.
Besides that, Bagan was the obvious spot to spend a few days exploring its temples, and we also spent a few days more in the south around Hpa-An. Then, finally, Ngapali was the ultimate destination for our beach leisure time.

Cape Cod, Mass - Herring Cove Beach
I was never a beach or sun person, so as we spent the morning at Castaway Cay, I parked my chair in the shade behind the lifeguard tower (with a very bright orange umbrella) as I watched my daughter swim at the beach.
It is always fun to take a stroll down the boardwalk and in California you can do any month of the year. Swimsuits are best and a bit of sunblock and you can have a grand time playing in the waves, walking under the pier, playing your guitar or showing off your tan or in my case my no tan. Just another couple out enjoying the sites taken here. I feel like the beach is a circus of color and sound. Take a barefoot walk and enjoy an ice cream with you girlfriend, boyfriend or just yourself. Smile it is good for you

I remember that I turned darker after I took this shot lol. I have done this for few minutes without sunblock, without shade glasses and I did this couple of times so do it fast or your camera lens will turn into magnifying glass and damage the sensor. 90+ that day. =D

SILENCE & Noise!
This day I decided to go to the beach at Ramla Bay, about 20 minutes away by bus from my hotel. The route included a lot of mountainous hairpin turns that made me anxious.
Once there, the beach was wonderful! I had a burger at the little beach shack (they call them beef burgers on Malta, not hamburgers), and lazed in sun and water for a couple hours. I didn't have a book or an umbrella or sunblock (!), and I ended up leaving after two hours, but with no regrets.

My Gardner is trying to convince me Au Natural is the new trend. So I yelled Viva Au Natural, flung off my clothes and now he's outside mowing. Rude.
View Au Natural ... Wear sunblock though. And no pointing and giggling!
Well, who can blame a vampire gal for being a little cross if her alarm clock goes off several hours early? If it weren't for high factor sunblock...she'd be dead unhappy...or is that, undead unhappy?
This vampire wench is from a production of 'Dracula' by 'Black and White Rainbow' productions (directed by Simon Evans who also did his own close-up magic show). They were to be found promoting their show on the Royal Mile almost every day and were kind enough to let me photograph the show itself.
You can see other pics of this vampire gal, here:

So let the sunshine in
Face it with a grin
Smilers never loose
And Frowners never win
So let the sunshine in
Face it with a grin
Open up your heart
and let the sunshine in
You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy
When skies are gray
You'll never know dear
How much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

I try to ignore the sun's damage to my shoulders.
(I wear SPF 85+ every day now but can't undo a childhood spent outdoors and the few serious burns I got when I lapsed on the sunblock.)
By the way, the spots that ren't freckles are all moles! I am covered in them.
A Chinese woman wears a ski mask, sun hat and a body covering suit to avoid getting a tan at a Qingdao beach. Many Chinese woman prefer to have their skin be a white as possible.
