As if one of me wasn't enough! Looking through the lounge window and sun-screen blind while using the lens cap to block our closest star. My reflection from the window is rim lit and then there's my shadow on the blind and as it lets light through my shadow on the door and wall of the lounge is also visible.
Should know better than to hold the camera in one hand, thats how I ended up needing physio ... but sometimes I just can't help myself ... and it was just for a few seconds! Plus it should be stronger now after all those exercises right?
Sequins on my bikini are also visible but you really have to look :)
Happy Thursday everyone :)

... is a special day to celebrate the world’s third-largest mammal. It’s also a day to learn more about the hippopotamus.
The blue whale and the African elephant are the only two mammals in the world that are larger than the hippopotamus. The word hippo translates to river horse in ancient Greek. The giant animal weighs a whopping 3,600 kg (8,000 lbs). There is only one continent in the world you can find a hippo. That continent is Africa. Hippos are native to over 30 countries in Africa. These herbivores live up to 50 years in the wild. There are only two species of hippos on the planet. These include the common hippopotamus and the pygmy hippo.
Here are some more interesting facts about the hippopotamus:
- They secrete an oily red substance on their skin, which acts as sunblock and a moisturizer.
- Hippos spend up to 16 hours a day submerged in water but have to come up every 5 minutes for air.
- Mother hippos give birth to their babies in the water.
- Baby hippos weigh about 45 kg (100 lbs).
- Female hippos give birth to one calf every two years.
- Even though hippos don’t look fast, they can run up to 30 km/h (19 mph).
- Hippos consume nearly 70 kg (150 lbs) of grass in a 4 to 5 hour grazing period.
- Hippos are the most aggressive animals in the world and kill 500 humans a year.
- Predators of the hippo include hyenas, lions, and crocodiles. Unfortunately, humans have also become a primary predator. While some hunt hippos for their meat, others hunt them for ivory canine teeth. The demand for hippo teeth escalated after the ban on the international trade of elephant ivory in 1989. Despite recent efforts to ban the trade of hippo teeth, the animal is classified as vulnerable. Through the years, the most significant decline in the hippo population has occurred in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The sun is nice, but be sure to wear sunblock. Skin cancer is no fun. The only thing I can think of worse than skin cancer is drowning. So be safe. Water is fun to splash in, but people die far too often because they don't wear personal flotation devices when appropriate or place themselves in danger. Sorry to sound like a downer, but occasional warnings may save lives.

NOTE: After some research.. I believe this is a Frosted Whiteface dragonfly. The other option is the Belted Whiteface but the other shots (side views) didn't show any coloured bands.

I was visiting a vendor today, stopped off on the way to take a shot over the hills. This is why you can drive a mile here and move from needing sunblock to needing a fleece. The Pacific ocean is hiding out below that fog.

Kicked back, relaxed, just chillin'

Oh, yeah, I'm feelin' it

The land of wonder so big and amazing that even when it is right in front of you it looks unreal. If you visit try to make it at least one overnight if not several. Hike the rim and if you are fit and prepared with water, food, good shoes, a hat and sunblock that enjoy the trail down and remember it takes 2 or 3 times as long to go up as it does down. The aches and pains will be worth it as this land is so vast that you will pulse with energy for many weeks after to experience the Grand Canyon.

I had a great time at the beach yesterday! I was completely burnt out even though i kept putting on sunblock every part of me even my most delicate area LOL! Now i'm as red as a roasted pig .. well almost! Therefore its pretty obvious that i'm going to share a nice summer beach shot with you. This beach shot looks similar to the one i had been to except that this has more rocks. I went a bit crazy with the saturation here so pls pardon me .. must be the wonderful feeling at the beach that drives me to do that! :P

After frequent prodding by Garshna to check out Burroughs 3, I decided the hottest day of the year was the best time to set off on the driest, most exposed trail I've ever hiked.... :-) Karen Sykes called it a thigh burner and she was right. It's only nine miles out and back, but you have to climb Burroughs 2 twice with an elevation gain of 2,600 feet. On my way back a guy asked me if it was worth the hike since the view was so amazing from 2 already, I laughed, hesitated for just a moment because I'd already decided that I'm not going back unless my daughter makes me, but yes. If you can get there you simply must, the last bit is steep as heck and dang Burroughs 2 is between you and the parking lot, but the views are astounding...oh and if you wear shorts, put the sunblock on your legs too.... :-)
I hesitate to say 'blow it up' because it is a volcano so.... enlarge it and step into my little world. :-)
Dr. Pervert is on guard duty...

This is a photo taken on a super foggy morning, from the Leigh Woods side of the Clifton Suspension Bridge, which, overlooks the City of Bristol from this vantage point, but it is being completely obscured by the dense fog, as is the sun.
On a really warm day recently, I snapped this shot because of the net. The net may be impervious to the sun, but the players most certainly aren't. USE SUNSCREEN!
No comments needed unless you doubt my reason for taking this photo. :)

Hippopotamuses love water, which is why the Greeks named them the “river horse.” Hippos spend up to 16 hours a day submerged in rivers and lakes to keep their massive bodies cool under the hot African sun. Hippos are graceful in water, good swimmers, and can hold their breath underwater for up to five minutes. However, they are often large enough to simply walk or stand on the lake floor, or lie in the shallows. Their eyes and nostrils are located high on their heads, which allows them to see and breathe while mostly submerged.
Hippos also bask on the shoreline and secrete an oily red substance, which gave rise to the myth that they sweat blood. The liquid is actually a skin moistener and sunblock that may also provide protection against germs.

At sunset, hippopotamuses leave the water and travel overland to graze. They may travel 6 miles (10 kilometers) in a night, along single-file pathways, to consume some 80 pounds (35 kilograms) of grass. Considering their enormous size, a hippo's food intake is relatively low. If threatened on land hippos may run for the water—they can match a human's speed for short distances.
Hippo calves weigh nearly 100 pounds (45 kilograms) at birth and can suckle on land or underwater by closing their ears and nostrils. Each female has only one calf every two years. Soon after birth, mother and young join schools that provide some protection against crocodiles, lions, and hyenas.
Hippos once had a broader distribution but now live in eastern central and southern sub-Saharan Africa, where their populations are in decline.

Elephant (Loxodonta africana) calf tries to keep up with its mother and the rest of the herd. It must be a confusing place with all those huge legs, feet and trunks and the incessant dust. Dust clouds like the one pictured here form when the group moves through the dirt and mud, coating their skins to keep insect pests off their skins and as a sunblock.

for the Macro Mondays challenge “The Daily Routine” (November 7th 2016)
The daily selection of vitamins, minerals and supplements, designed to keep me healthy! The smallest liquid capsule at the very front is a high dose Vit D. The Scottish Government is concerned at the re-appearance of the bone disease rickets, which is linked to vitamin D deficiency. There are plans to issue free vitamins to all young children. Poor levels of sunshine, less outdoor exercise and the use of strong sunblocks seem to be making vit D deficiency a growing problem in the northern hemisphere.
